Hi Roseanne, really enjoyed this video - thank you so much! We share the same dream of a calm life in Sweden even though we are in completely different parts of our journey in life (I am a self employed mama of four boys, living in the middle of crazy Berlin). Do you know the German YT-Channel "Endlich Selbstversorger" by Claudia Weber? She lives really far out in Sweden (no running water, no electricity. She has chickens, goats and grows a lot of vegetables) I don't think that the road to her house is cleaned from the snow in winter, too. But she has something like a. "small tractor" which seems to be a very typical Swedish thing!? Thank you so much for sharing your experience and good luck 💕
I could not live without either running water, gas or electricity. Those are what make life endurable. I mean, we all have to wash ourselves, eat and heat our homes. Human company, I can do without.
You call cabin! So interesting) We in Siberia call it winter shelter. So cool to see deferent point of view other nationalities! Thank you Google translator)))
With 200k up here in northern sweden you can get a castle for those money😂,but you only have 4 months of growing, dont look for cabins they are not isolated so good..,and isolate a cabin can cost as much as the cabin itself..look for a smaller house instead..a torp as we call it here in sweden..most of the so called Torp in sweden have own water wells an are already suited for the winter
I think I ended up in a torp! I never really found anything that cheap though, even up north. I think the prices have been going up this past year, or perhaps my requirements just didn't suit those cheaper properties...
Prices have gone up in the north for two reasons: The pandemic, people are working from home anyway so many realised they can live somewhere else rather than in the cities. And there’s also a trend to get into nature. And the other major reason is the ”wonder in the north”. There’s major investments in the north of Sweden by major battery factories and other modern tech companies and they’re gonna need to hire loads of people. And of course they’re gonna need places to live. So that’s driving prices as well. Most of that will be in the northern cities though or in areas near where those factories will be situated. The northern parts of Sweden are massive though so don’t worry too much about it. It’s not gonna be crowded😀 And I have to say, I think there are very cheap cabins elsewhere in Sweden too if you look really far away from the cities. So it might help if you widen your search to at least central Sweden as well. Anyway, good luck to you and to anyone else looking to move to Sweden. I know I’m biased cos I’m swedish, but it’s pretty amazing 😀 🇸🇪
Ohhhh how exiting you ended up in Sweden yaaaayyyy =), its so much cheaper the further up north you get but you have as you say so much better seasons for vegetable growing in the middle.
I think you really need a car unless you live like max 10km from nearest village with a store, just thinking how you are gonna remodel with all the stuff you need to buy and haul is enough to say that. Also indoor water, not sure you want that bc thats gonna freeze in winter and explode, and electric heating is needed to avoid that, and that heating option is extremely expensive. A well is safe and free. I myself had to realise I had to get a drivers license and a car to do this
wow! what an adventure, thank you for letting us witness your journey! and the editing is lovely too! small input: the time stamps are actually only starting when you have 0:00 marked as intro before all of the other chapters! I will stick around, subscribe and am very curious to see more! thank you and have a lovely rest of the week.. and of course, happy new year! PS: was it easy to get a visa for permanent residence?
Happy new year! That's so weird because it works when I check on my computer! I can click the time stamps just fine... will have another look and adjust. Thanks for pointing out :) Ah, I've got that coveted EU passport. Wouldn't know how I could do it without... (living rurally at least. I could probably get a work visa but I'd be stuck in a city...)
Hi Rosie, I just found your channel. I am very impressed by what you do. I am Swedish and actually from Filipstad, where you checked the first two cabins I think.
I don't know if you found a place , but blocked is the best to find them . the good houses sell within a day and disappear from blocked so you need to be fast. I found a old school ( högakusten)with electricity and summer water for 50,000 sek (5,000) euro. the challenge will be that many of the sellers are older and don't speak English. good luck!
Is anything cheap in Sweden? -- but not a bad thing. Not a "cheap" population either, indeed if one ever has doubts about an ethics issue look to Sweden (and Scandinavians in general) for mature perspective. Thanks for the video lass, good luck.
Wish I saw this earlier. We are selling our house but it's big and hoping for 350 to 400 sek. Anyway the village actually has more remote places for good prices as well as nearby villages. If you have any questions feel free to contact me.
1:43 A lot people lived in these cabins year round 150 or so years ago. It was pretty cold but they had lots of fires going and lots of kids so it was doable but unpleasant. Great videos! I hope that Sweden will work out for you in the long term!
Wow this is real helpful. Thanks. I think i have found something for ourself in Sweden. But it is a ruin. And we wil have to work hard to turn this in to a gem. Placed my bid at 150000 The broker was shocked.
@@wildrosie Yes but this broker is not responcive and now the prevous bidder overbid us. That sucks. But hey there wil be more houses in Sweden i'm we wil find one for ourself.
It must have been really hard for you when you see each plot then finding they were not what you really wanted, and those with no electricity or water must have made you feel so upset making you think when would you find the house of your dreams 👍
Hi Rosie, new to your channel. You have a fascinating English accent.. have you not lived anywhere else? Your accent sounds like a cross of English snd South African. I’m Australian and LOVE Sweden, I feel drawn to it for some reason and sure hope I get to visit one day.. but of course it’s so incredibly far from here.
I really think you need to visit these places in winter. Im not saying this cannot be done. It can very well be done. You can survive anything, but to live, not only survive. Im not sure if you are ready at this point. Winter in an uninsulated summer cottage in northern sweden without a vehicle to transport building materials, plow or move yourself in an emergency... Its not Instagram. Maybe if you work on the buldings only in summertime for a couple of summers and go home for the winter until you have enough wood and have the buildings at a level where you can live there. But I love your spirit and truly hope you prove me wrong.
@@josefine635 I was thinking the same thing. I am really impressed. Awsome work from her part. And lots of determination 😊 hats off from my side. But I still stand by my statement that if somebody contemplates buying or building something in Scandinavia. Make sure to visit during the winter also. Not only the summer 😊
I'm doing something similar. I'm looking for a small cabin on a few acres of land. Land that I can turn into a garden/food forest. Hoping to grow fruit and vegetables. I want to sell produce at a small 'honor-system' farm stand. I'd love to have a heated greenhouse built so I can grow during the winter months as well. Maybe sell produce to local grocery stores and restaurants. Donate a percentage to local food pantries. Everything is so expensive right now. Anyway, new sub! Good luck with your search. I'll be watching :)
Hi Rosie, i really like your video's and it is verry inspirational, in my own search for a place in Sweden. I saw that you use the train and other public transport in Swedenn, ... It would be cool if you can give some tips/tricks on using public transport in Sweden (prices, where to book,...) :-)
I moved to Sweden 8.5 yrs ago, living in the middle between Oslo & Stockholm, 25km away from the nearest Small town. I don’t think you are being realistic. How will you manage living remote without a car? How will you make money? Don’t underestimate the cold and the long winters (it is freezing for at least 4 months here)? Growing your own vegetables is not enough to survive on, the vegetable growing season is only 4 months here.
I started this house hunt knowing all those things and decided I would just stay really flexible - if I didn't manage to get the house ready for winter or I didn't have any work, I'd just have to go back to London for the winter months and come back when the temperatures rise in spring / summer. Until everything would be ready for full time living. But so far all has been good - it's been cold but it's been okay, I've got some freelance work which I do from home and I'm 12 km from the nearest town - I can walk or cycle. I'm curious to see what will happen in the coming months, but I see this as a long term project, so whatever happens is okay
I am so glad that I found a video describing the life I wound love to lead. I wish that I could find a cabin away from people and the complications of life, but I would not be able to. Because I cannot drive, I would not be able to get any provisions. I wonder how you pass the time of day, without getting bored. Also, what happens if the plumbing or electricity fail to function? What do you do?
I did notice a bit of irony at cabin four where you said you wanted something a bit more 'wild', but then said a downside was that you didn't have a phone signal there. Isn't that what 'wild' is all about?
Haha, the struggles of living in today's world!! Maybe I should've said I want a wild 'feeling'... basically just lots of overgrown trees and bushes on the land....
Solar is not a reliable energy source in Sweden as the winters are very dark, specially in the northern parts of Sweden. If someone tells you that some small solar system is good enough for pretty much anything other than lighting a house during the winter they are simply misinformed or lying. Clearcutting is common practice in Sweden. There are some nightmare scenarios where forest owners have clearcut forests right next to other peoples homes, but that very rarely happens. Safest bet to avoid this when buying a cabin in the woods is to buy a forest property so that you own the forests surrounding the cabin. This is of course more costly.
Thanks for the input... I was a little sceptical about the solar as well! The clearcutting is so sad for the surrounding properties... if I had a higher budget then I definitely would've tried to buy a forest plot as well!
I brought my cabin in Sweden 17 years ago.It was the first one I looked at and I immediately felt an affinity with it. Buying it is probably one of the smartest things I've done.

Also indoor water, not sure you want that bc thats gonna freeze in winter and explode, and electric heating is needed to avoid that, and that heating option is extremely expensive. A well is safe and free. I myself had to realise I had to get a drivers license and a car to do this
Watching this as my neighbour tries to drill a hole in my wall next to my head, and traffic is roaring outside my window
wow! what an adventure, thank you for letting us witness your journey! and the editing is lovely too! small input: the time stamps are actually only starting when you have 0:00 marked as intro before all of the other chapters!
Thanks for pointing out :)
Ah, I've got that coveted EU passport. Wouldn't know how I could do it without... (living rurally at least. I could probably get a work visa but I'd be stuck in a city...)
@@wildrosie just add 0:00 and the chapters will appear on the timeframe bar also.
Thanks for the video lass, good luck.
enjoyed watching subscribed, want to see more thanks !
Hello from Ohio USA and I am new to your channel.
The only thing in sweden that scares me is the logging industry that is destroying our home and magical forests.
Cabin one was ideal.
At 18:17 i was on that gravelroad 2monts ago and worked in the forrest 👍
Beautiful cabin
Good prices, where i have my summerhouse they cost over 100.000$ if it's close to water and if it's beside the water add 50k more.
Love on the first sight
That is really exciting!!!
@@wildrosie Yes but this broker is not responcive and now the prevous bidder overbid us. That sucks. But hey there wil be more houses in Sweden i'm we wil find one for ourself.
10:44 nice interior...
I hope you find that which you seek!
She’s originally from the Netherlands so that influences the british accent from 18 years in LDN.
You remind me of me. I know subbing to your channel will inspire me to do what I know I need to do at some point ✨ Happy New Year! ✨
But I love your spirit and truly hope you prove me wrong.
so far, so good :)

I was thinking the same thing. I am really impressed. Awsome work from her part. And lots of determination 😊 hats off from my side.
But I still stand by my statement that if somebody contemplates buying or building something in Scandinavia. Make sure to visit during the winter also. Not only the summer 😊
Hey, thank you for sharing! Does being a UK citizen affect your living in Sweden after Brexit. How did you manage to get a residence?
Welcome välkommen 😊🙂👍🏻🇸🇪
Nice, finds... Would you have a newsletter ? or website.
That's sounds amazing... where do you plan to do this?
@@wildrosie New Hampshire, USA :)
Thanks for the film Rosie. Apologies if this question has already been asked, but where are you originally from, and why choose Sweden?

Cedar Canon, the vegetable growing season is not much longer here in London.
@@daisychain3007 although I prefer to be alone, it is not always easy to be alone this much
@@cedarcanoe She walked the entire PCT so you can be sure she’s knows a thing or two about extreme weather and loneliness.
I live in the netherlands , but omg....i wish i lived in the swedish woods
I did notice a bit of irony at cabin four where you said you wanted something a bit more 'wild', but then said a downside was that you didn't have a phone signal there. Isn't that what 'wild' is all about?
Haha, the struggles of living in today's world!! Maybe I should've said I want a wild 'feeling'... basically just lots of overgrown trees and bushes on the land....
Would love to hear more about why you decided to move to Sweden
Next week's video! :)
