I told my dad I was listening to a song about weed, off of Famliy Guy. And he said he didn't want to encourage me but (whispered) "but you should go listen to Me and Opie". I whispered "ok cool thanks" and ran to the computer and listened to it. I'm glad I did because I think this may be my new favorite country song!
Reminds me of a hootenanny that Gma & I would go to on a Saturday night down around Seligman, MO. Some good’ole toe-tappin music. ☺️ Thanks for sharing 🤗
Wow. Old memories. My (soon to be) wife and I were at this performance circa November 2005 or so at the Woodsongs Old-Time Radio Hour at the Kentucky Theater in beautiful downtown Lexington, Kentucky. Their "Dog Days" album was about to come out. If I remember correctly they also played "Poison", "After the Hurricane", "Lower Broad Street Blues", and "Let Jesus Make You Breakfast". "Bettie Bettie" and this song were the encores.
Love this! I would swim from my home in the NW Highlands of Scotland to wherever they were perfoming just so I could hear this live :) that, and Chuck Meade is gorgeous lol!
"It's time to tell you the true story all about the lost episode of the ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW ... It's a particularly heinous story about drug abuse and sexual deviance ... looks like it's right up your alley" - BR549, LIVE AT ROBERT'S.
Great stuff. My mom used to work at Tootsies in downtown Nashville back in the mid 90s. So, when I was a kid I got to see them sometimes. Always been metal kind of guy but they sure did get me to like country/honky tonk. I think they are a bit of outlaw too.
I used to live in Nashville, for Tootsies you have to get there real early to get inside on the weekends, always a line to get in. I sure miss Nashville
what a great song for anyone from the sixties. Heck Mayberry is timeless. Anyone of any age would love it. Floyd was definitely a hop head. Love this song. All Time Top 10 on my personal list.
To Don Herron. Happy Birthday. 9-23-2009. Well, you finally caught up to me (at 47). Hey, maybe you all can perform in Columbia, SC or Augusta, GA sometime. Think about it. Many happy returns.
I am one of the co-writers of this song. Mostly written in my kitchen in Lawrence, Ks. with Chuck and Alan Murphy. Good times!
I listen to this song nightly. It never gets old.
Thank you very much. I love this song. You sir, are a national treasure.
It's brilliant and cracks me up no matter how many times I hear it.
Thank YOU!!!
Great song and story ,it happens more than people know . There is nothing wrong with a feller getting one with the moon and stars

These guys are so underrated by the country community!
The song is also available on an EP called "Live at Roberts" some of the best live music I ever heard.

I just came across this & wonder why I don't remember hearing it before. My Dad was named Opie. We watched "Little Opie" grow up on TV.
I wonder if Paul Simon has heard this. Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard.
Or if John Denver heard it. Thank God I'm a Country Boy.
