Trying to work out your comment, if you’re talking about the dm9 the relative major would be f. Major 7th drop 2 rootless would be c,a,e. I don’t know why you wouldn’t add the 9th though and have c,a,e,g??? Though I would remove the maj7 and add 6 instead to give a model 4th sound, c,a,d,g.
@@slapmyfunkybass yes that's almost what I meant but I meant using the exact same notes as here 😊the fmajor 7 would simply be the exact voicing used in the video so therefore a drop 2 of fmaj7 (not rootless though ) ....you could add the 9th or takeaway the root yes ....but personally i meant you can use the same voicing and sound as here for major7ths 😊
@@chgm7690 Yes, I agree, the chord could be major or minor. There’s no 3rd as such strong enough to define it. Known as ambiguous chords. This is one of the problems with rootless harmonies, d min9 becomes F maj7. Jazz musicians often get round this by leaving off the 5th and adding in 2nd, 4ths etc. So d min9 becomes something like F, G, C, E. Once again there’s no 3rd and it becomes ambiguous.
@@michaelfoxbrass Yes I totally get the logic behind it ... what I meant (and probably failed to express correctly lol) was: Is there an easy way to recognize a shape or anything, so that I don't have to go through the whole "construction" for all 12 possible chords ;)
@@csmcrckrs it honestly doesn't get much simpler than the explanation in the video my dude 🤷♂️ Shouldn't take a magical shape tbh, play with the concept enough and it'll become second nature same as any "shortcut" you're looking for.
An easier way is to just play a 3rd inversion of the minor 7th harmony, then take out the root and add a 9th on top. Though I see it a different way for some reason, 2nd inversion of the relative major with a M7th on top. If you’re playing solo it’s best not to think of these as minor harmonies as they’re not, neither are they major, they’re really modal 4ths, no note is strong enough to represent a 3rd to define M or m. They’re ambiguous chords.
@@slapmyfunkybass Hell yeah, I was also thinking of that stacked-4th So What voicing, the look and sound seems similar. For rootless min9 voicings in general, my "shortcut" would be to memorize it as maj7 voicings starting from the 3rd ... but it is not so straightforward in this example and neither the stacked-4th-shape nor the maj7-shape really work ... I guess I'll just have to memorize it as is ;)
How to make a superb jazz chord? Answer:1)Buy a good quality piano 2) Learn piano and music theory 3)Dive deeper into jazz 4)Make a song in a key 5) Write a diatonic chord but use 7th or dominant 7th version 6)And the most important step:Let your cat on your piano to get a juicy jazz chord
Hello sir, I hope you doing well. I would like to ask you that I am gonna buy a digital piano (brand doesn't matter roland casio etc.) and can you suggest me any qualified digital piano? First thing that I am looking for is a good voice. Thanks =)
It's called a rootless voicing and they are very common in jazz. I have a video explaining the reasons why we use them, check it out here: ruclips.net/video/w2V_1NkiK3c/видео.html
this channel's simply a gold mine, thank you!
Glad you're enjoying it 🙏
"Have fun", sure... Just give me your skill and hrs of practice
Skill = hours of practice
Hi marksman you should try and do a piano/keyboard stream one day
Its free, go do it yourself.
@@Piano_Pig based
Do it yourself and stop being lazy, you’re not going to get better at piano making excuses and being envious of others without putting in the work
I’m a simple man. I see a keyboard in the thumbnail and the words “jazz” and “progression” in the title, I click
Jazz is very good
My soul literally went to heaven for the last part 😇
I'm actually crying listening to this progression. 😭 It's beautiful
That intro you just made is so juicy 🔥❤️
Also works nice as a major 7 drop 2 voicing for the relative major :) EG dmin9 rootless or drop 2 an fmaj7
I’ll understand that in a few years

What is a "drop 2" voicing?
Nice, I love the sound spreading the voicing out.
It makes all the difference 🎹🐷
Been following you a while, you're a great teacher. Keep up the good work 👏

You’re honestly one of the best teachers on the tube.
I appreciate that!
This is magic
Yes! Piano shorts, I love it!!
Just experimenting with the short format for now 😃
Several of my pieces in the past have used this technique, it's a very VERY easy one to get trapped in for a while.
Yes, drop 2s have a lovely sound. Time well spent going deep with this concept I think 😃
@@Piano_Pig that's a relief to hear 😅
I completely agree though, very versatile

Just experimenting with them, glad you like it 🙂
Sounds amazing man, are all the Chords the same minor 9 chord?
He’s using the same voicing just on other keys
man..insane chord 👍👍
Could you PLEASE make the min9 chords in a loop? I can't stop listening! PS. Your videos are awesome :D
sos un genio!! gracias
Really like the open sound! Any tipps/shortcuts how to memorize this voicing?
It’s commonly called a “drop 2”. Drop the 2nd from the top note (in the root chord voicing) one octave. Remove the root and there you are!

recently heard: The past is history and the future is a mystery. Today is a gift, that's why it's called the "present".
More tutorial pls!
*I can't say anything more than thanks bruh* 🔥
Oh man!!!
drop 2
Excelente información, algo muy sencillo pero con una bella sonoridad....
Gracias piano pig
Good
Can you make Chattanooga choo choo tutorial?
Are those keys at the top automatically generated during recording or do you make them manually in post? Very nice visual and very nice chords
Agreed, the visual is great to see exactly what's being played :)
Nice🌝
I heard Careless Whisper...
The fact that he didn't even look at the piano
How is C,F,A,E not a Fmaj7, if there is no D implied and it is not in a progression that implies dm9 functionality?
looks like a major 7th chord where u pull out the 5th and play it underneath instead
How is a 9 chord with the root D taken out different from Fmaj7?
Thanks so much for this. Glad I found you! Anyone have any tips on how to get this piano sound for Garage band, or even what the tone is described as?
I'm using a VST called Keyscape which you'd be able to get in GarageBand
@@Piano_Pig Ahh, thank you so much. I’ll get on it. Really appreciate the reply, man. Best wishes. ❤️
i didnt understand what you meant by take the note second from the top...please could you break it down?
Not the top note of the chord, but the 2nd top note. Just go down two notes from the top
@@Piano_Pig Thank you!
Lolololololllll I can't stop
Can u please tell me Chords ru playing after the first one 😊
What is the chord progression at the end?
Cant really see all the keys of the piano. Would you be able to make it into a video instead of a reel
Was just experimenting with RUclips Shorts! Will probably stick to the normal format for the most part 🙂

Answer:1)Buy a good quality piano

5) Write a diatonic chord but use 7th or dominant 7th version
6)And the most important step:Let your cat on your piano to get a juicy jazz chord
Du dir okay the root as a base with your left hand?
Would you say that low note is a diatonic 9th below the root?
The lowest note in the voicing is the 7th
@@Piano_Pig thank you. I'd confused myself.
How is not just a modified Fmaj7
I wish I understood this 😭
So what are the other chords are you using?
I'm only using that same voicing, just moving it around to some other keys 🙂
@@Piano_Pig Thank you I sort of figured it out once I began to practice. Please stay in Touch, okay Mr. Simon ???
How do I learn to play piano in this style? Ik the basics of piano but this stuff seems a little out of my league
Fmaj7/C i think
why is the 7th note in a minor9 chord?
Drop 2?
That's the one!
You sound like david bennett , and he's a music youtuber too

Yamaha P-515 is a great digital piano.
This video clip send me to slow speed
Phew! Too darn hot !
why use a Dm9 instead of an F major 7if youre going to take out the d anyways

How DOOM hold heat and preach non violence?
