I’m a long-term Final Cut Pro user, but I’ve recently bought a 12.9-inch M2 iPad Pro and have decided to try out DaVinci Resolve for the iPad. This is the start of that journey.

Come on, DaVinci Resolve users… what do I need to know?!
First off is how to access the rest of the pages (though there be bugs) => ruclips.net/video/YAC0hWhk3hs/видео.html
In key shortcuts you can set a combination to switch between editing pages that does not introduce by default , fusion also
Hey, if you didn't know, Option Command K allows you to open shortcuts, then you can go to show pages and activate Edit page, etc. Edit page works seamlessly, fusion however does not.
I’m glad to see that you’re giving the iPad a shot. I have no experiance with FCP and haven’t really learned video editing. Learning DR on the iPad is on the list for this year.
Years ago I switched from Adobe to DaVinci Resolve. The learning curve was steep, very steep, but it was a far better editor with everything integrated in it.
Be patient, it will take a while, and hundreds of hours googling for help, to become comfortable with it.
And in the end you get what could be the most powerful editorial suite - for FREE! No more one time fee for Final Cut and no more subscriptions for Adobe.
Expecting free software is also a trash attitude. No one owes you free products. I hate subscriptions, so I don’t pay for them, but I usually choose to buy all my apps and pick one time fee apps. I don’t work for free and neither do developers.
Blender is the exception, but just because there just isn’t an option. You either pay 10k a year for Maya or pay nothing for Blender 😂, nothing in between
@@sloppynyuszispeaking of trash attitude.
Same, I then upgraded to the studio version when they launched the speed editor (2020 I think). Since I got the speed editor can no longer edit on anything else... Well not as fast anyway, it's like learning a new NLE all over again.
Hello friend. I installed DaVInci Resolve 18 on my iPad Pro 12.9 but, in the COLOR tab, when I click on EFFECTS (FX), the LIBRARY with the effects does not open. Do you know what it could be? Thanks!
Thanks, I am also learning Davinci on iPad Pro.. a cool software except I try to figure out the best way to handle media files with external storage, see anyone got hints on this, e.g I found from preference page we can specify the media storage locations, and also for project library, could we also place it somewhere on iCloud/Dropbox/external storage?
Mark, could you please make a video on which size IPad Pro to choose? 11 or 12.9?
Hello hello from France, thanks again for all your content!!!!!! Is it possible to Switch between desktop and ipad easily (start a project on iPad and finish on mac) ?
Resolve with Cloud and a sync between the desktop version and the iPad... That's a winner. You should look into how to unhide the edit page. The Cut page is nice for what it does, but the edit page is where the magic happens :D
Same case here, I love it on my M1 iPad Air, but Apple accounced that on march 23rd, Final Cut Pro comes to the iPad for $4.99 a month. I'm super hyped
you can open other pages like the edit page that’s hidden. The Fairlight page seems to be none functional.
Sleeek review! Is this an ipad pro 8 or 16 gb ram? Wondering if it's an issue for the 8gb when editing 4k videos😅
Any difference between 11" and 13" iPad pros for Davinci Resolve? (Anything other than screen size obviously)
Unfortunately that is not exactly a complete version of "Davinci Resolve for iPad" for instance some of the pages like fusion, Fairlight and I believe edit pages are missing or hidden, in order to open them you have to press "option" cmd K in the search box type "show" go to show page, in order to open the hidden pages, don't know why they did it like this but they did, laptop or desktop experience is more fuller in my opinion
hello there!! which ram version of ipad pro do you use here? 16gb ram or 8gb?
Open up all the pages, the Edit page will be your best one. Then add the motionVFX package. The iPad Pro just works. Enjoy !
I did not think you could add VFX on iPad, am I wrong?
This is a very exciting experiment. But, whenever I price up a 12" iPad Pro with the Apple keyboard it costs the same as an Air which can do more, So you really have to get your head around the fact you are not buying a mac replacement but an iPad and use the iPad as and iPad if you know what I mean.
Will i be ok using divinci resolve with a 128gb m1 chip iPad pro?
Some of the reviews for this don't make sense. This ruclips.net/user/postUgkxUGaHtKW8MwCql2fPyIm9-ftTqSMzKFFA works as well as any power strip I've used. Plug in what you need, be sensible about it & keep it movin' The construction is plastic but it's a sturdy piece. It has a single toggle switch & the swivel jacks are useful as well. Plugged in next to Tripp Lite Isobar takes some of these reviews with a pinch of sumthin' - does what it says & functions properly.Had for about a month. Perfect no complaints will update if anything changes.
Thank you for this video Mark - glad I found your channel.
I'm a Trader - I use a laptop and my iPhone --> I recently decided I need an iPad because I need a bigger screen to look at charts while I'm away from my laptop.
I also edit my YT videos using Da Vinci Resolve on my 6 year old Laptop that badly needs more computing power, but I decided I'll save more $ and buy a powerful i9 computer at a later date.
But, I just found out that iPad Pro w/ the M2 has Da Vinci Resolve!!! - it's how I ended up on your video.
I initially was just considering a "basic" iPad since I just needed the charts.
TLDR; I can now kill 2 birds w/ 1 stone, and your explanation just helped me make the decision. I will be purchasing an iPad Pro because I can solve the need for bigger screen for Trading, and the computing power to utilize Da Vinci Resolve!
Thank you!
Hey, did you go for the 11inch or 12inch screen? Thinking about buying one too for editing. thx in advance!
I use DR on my Windows pc and like it and was looking for some mobile editing and this might be it. It does look like it's only available on the iPad and not Samsung tablets like the S9 Ultra though.
I have it on iPad pro 12.9 M1 and I hate when it lags only just on the Jitter Title lol. It is a great for Mac or PC.
Apple just announced Final Cut and Logic Pro for iPad. Would love for you to do a comparison video between resolve and FCPX after it drops.
This! Definitely would love to see a comparison. It is unfortunate that it’s subscription based. Even a one time $300 purchase would be nice. However, Davinci is free soooooooooo 🤷🏻♂️
@@TerrorByteTW although $5/mo would take 5 years to equal the $300, so I am good with it.
Good vid. I don’t know… I have an older iPad Pro, so D.R is really cut down in it capabilities. But I’ve always found Luma fusion does a great job. In some cases it is a bit behind, or doesn’t have exactly that very in-depth control that you are looking for. But from a touch perspective I found it more intuitive and still quite capable. You should check it out as well…
i love luma but hate that i can only do 7 tracks, i always have to be strategic and export my 7 tracks into 1 and make a new file and do more editing
Hi Mark,
Would be great, if you haven't already, to breakdown your video editing process, please. I'm guessing that's more likely to be on your new RUclips pg.
Mark, great video. I wonder if Apple is concerned that if iPad Pro users begin to shift away from FCP, will they also begin doing so on the Mac.....just wondering.
They can’t be that concerned, given the prominence of DaVinci in the iPad marketing campaign 😉
I really love the iPad but is it a good idea ?
How many gig of ram is this iPad?
Hi… Do you need 8GB or 16GB ram for Sony 4k footage to edit???
Ive been looking all over for this exact answer. Please let me know if you know!!😭😭😭😭😭😭
Literally two weeks later, Apple announces they're releasing Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro lmfao! I still love Davinci Resolve though but the timing is just peak comedy 😂
The face on the video thumbnail...... 😂🤣 BEST !!!!
I know that too, you use a software for a long time and is satisfied with it and shy to try another because everything runs well. Then you test another software and are surprised how much better it is and then get a little angry at yourself why you were not more open to other software and only ever took the one.
Thanks for the tip with the Pitaka MagEZ stand, I'm looking for a while after a good stand for my iPad Pro. Not quite cheap with the case together, but looks super handy with the charging function. Can you also rotate the iPad?
Greetings from Germany
Haha - it’s not often I get compliments about my thumbnail expressions! And you can indeed rotate the iPad on that stand.
I've been working with LumaFusion for my videos until this point... but I have a 12.9" M1 16GB/2TB iPad pro and I'm about to delve into a MASSIVE project that we're doing a video series on. Will probably be a year-long build on a very famous car (with high viewership very likely). So...
Should I just dive into Davinci Resolve instead?
I can’t answer that yet… but I’m sure others can!
Did you make the switch? I am using LumaFusion now and considering switching.
Just got the iPad Pro .... to use Davinci and to step away from my insanely slow iPad Air 2 :-D ..... It's hard editing on it' imho. so I edit on my M1 Mac and export it to the iPad Pro M2 for export ... it's so amazing
Press Shift+CMD+E will reveal the edit page!
The cut page is just for cutting. All the magic happens on the Edit page.
You can even show all 7 pages by assigning a keyboard short cut. (opt + cmd + k) to show the keyboard shortcut.
Pages:
Media - for sorting out your files in a project
Cut - rough cutting of your videos
Edit - Full NLE-style edit page
Fusion - Graphics, Fx, transitions
Color - the name itself
Fairlight - music mixing and mastering
Deliver Page - For exporting
Cheers, Andy - although that’s only applicable to the desktop version of DaVinci - the iPad only has access to the cut page at the moment (and the colour page too, I guess).
You can access all the pages. You just need to create keyboard shortcuts for them. See Daniel Kovacs video on how to do it. A word of warning though…I was travelling this month and used DVR on the iPad to create a video about my trip. The morning after I got home, I went to transfer it to my desktop, but the app had updated to v18.5 overnight and my project was gone. It’s showing as disconnected, and nothing I’ve tried has worked to bring it back
"Dot not ignore the cut page"
4:52 - Did you mean to include a link to your second channel in the description? Because I can’t seem to find it.
It’s definitely there!
@@MarkEllisReviews Oh, my bad!
The case of iPad looks fantastic. My iPad is ok but it is always out of charge when I want to use it..
Great video! Have you tried LumaFusion?
Thanks! And, nope!
I’m obsessed with watching switching to iPad Pro videos atm, tried to go ipad only a while ago and well failed (i code) so now there is some options for coding hoping for more evolution of this side at wwdc but i am sure we will be frustrated a little longer. If it wasn’t for coding the dream could probably be realised. I’m starting to believe its getting more possible. Guess the only way to do it properly is to offload the temptation of reverting. Whilst i wouldn’t want OSX on the ipad as I really like iOS some features need to come over to make the ipad even more powerful. Still on the fence want to love the ipad but even the price point isn’t putting up a reason as they cost more than a MacBook Air…
GitHub Codespaces makes coding on an iPad a leap ahead of previous solutions
Similarly, I really need Remote Desktop app to utilize and allow military CAC readers so I can access government websites.
What coding options have you found?
@@64-bitMicrois this just a website/portal or an actual iPad app?
@@rstr0up Pythonista, swift playgrounds for the most part and Juno but also link a raspberry pi4 to it which you can ssh into over usb. There is also webbased coding using things like code server but they aren’t as good as just getting a MacBook Air to be honest
I believe you can use external SSD with DaVinci but not with FCPX.
I go straight from bmpcc 6K to the iPad with my Samsung t7 ssd.. makes things super easy and fast
What are you going to do know after the apple press release 🙂
You’ll find out very soon 😉
Get the speed editor keyboard
Watching this now that the iPad has Final Cut lol great content as usual btw .
Just in time for Apple to announce Final Cut Pro for iPad!
How much ram do you have on your ipad now .
M2 base is 8gb, 16 with the 1TB and 2TB
Well, it looks like you got your wish, Apple announces final cut for iPad L O L
@Mark Ellis Reviews Did you speak too soon? Seems like a great announcement today!
You forced Apple’s hand!!! Your wish was granted. Final Cut for iPad is here! 😮
Hi Mark, loving your content. I'm thinking about writing in my local coffee shop. I'm looking for a good Macbook to use. I've been thinking about a base unit M2 or M1 air. I only will be using it to use Word. I already have a 65 keyboard (Nuphy halo) and mouse I like to use, so I was torn between an Ipad, or a cheaper Air. Thoughts? :)
Just get a m1 MacBook Air perfect for that use case and there are some really good deals on them.
@@samlawrence4670 Thanks! I will. I have a great setup at home, but I'm looking to escape my castle and join the world of the living. lol :)
The M1 version will do you just fine :)
M1 Air refurbed 💻
M1 Air has never let me down :-)
I hope DaVinci Resolve works for you. To hear many of the RUclipsrs, it appears all that M2 processing power seems to go to waste in an iPad. That iPasOS is said to get in the way of the lovely hardware you’ve all bought. Well…I’m wishing you success in dispelling all that negativity in this new adventure you’ve embarked upon!
Alas you are correct. iPadOS is awful and makes file management a pain. I bought a 12.9" M2 iPad Pro for Davinci Resolve (Studio) on iPad but gave up because, file management. Went back to DR on MacOS on an M2 16" MacBook Pro. Apple? Put MacOS on the iPad or make a touch screen tablet Mac.
@@GudieveNing Indeed. For this iPad user, the File app and file system simply annoy me. I’m fortunate to have a simple 8th-gen iPad for RUclips consumption. My M1 Mac Mini and 2011 Mac Mini running Mint 21.1 do my heavy lifting. I sympathise with you and all the real creative types out there…
Here's a great tip for using Davinci Resolve on iPad with M2 chip. Grab your bike or skateboard, and an ice cold water, head to the local beach or park, find a shaded place to sit, and get to work. 🤣💪🏽
I’m still upset about Apple canceling aperture.
3 months later….”why I’m switching back to Final Cut Pro”
Ah… but I haven’t actually switched from Final Cut Pro, have I? Clickbait, y’see ;)

@@MarkEllisReviews The monthly payment is a deal breaker for me. It’s not that expensive but I like to own my paid software.
Ive tried both on my m2 iPad pro, and while i like FCP , DR18.5 has way more features and is basically free as opposed to £5 a month. Now if DR18 didn’t exist , then FCP would be the way to go for sure, if they add more desktop features to the iPad version in future that may change, but for now DR is king.
I was in FCP for iPad beta tester. Had access to it up until about a week ago. Transitioned from Final Cut to da Vinci about a year and a half ago and have been using the iPad version for the last several months. Sorry to upset anybody, but Final Cut on the iPad is just better. I miss using it and can't wait for the final release.
Davinci beat Final Cut in EVERY aspect man 😂
6:40 Well, while Apple may have that genius idea as you said, to leverage the power of iPad Pro M2 through Davinci Resolve than spending ample time and resources to create FCPx for iPad Pro, one can't but think that they should also think more about the long term joy and positive impact of satisfying their long-standing FinalCutPro fanbase.
Clearly, FCP fans are now compelled somehow (just as it is apparent with you Mark) to start using a new editing software simply because to Apple it is the more convenient option.
Sometimes, everything shouldn't just be about the bottomline, companies like Apple Inc should look to put smiles on faces of their diehard fans and making FCPx available on the ipad would have done just that - they definitely can learn a thing or two from Blackmagic design's strong desire to keep her fans happy!
Curious his level of rage after Apple released Final Cut Pro? Hell, if I were him, I’d stay with Davinci.
You’ve got some catching up to do, mate 😉
well this video's opinions on final cut pro on ipad got outdated real fast lol
And I’m super happy about it!
2 weeks after, Apple announces Final Cut for IPad 😂😂
And now everyone talk about final cut pro on ipad haha
3 weeks later “apple releases Final Cut Pro for iPad.”
Oops - looks like Apple pulled a fast one on you mate - Final cut arrives May 23...
I know - great news! Reaction video tomorrow 👍
Apple's upcoming Vision Pro AR/VR headset also uses the M2, and can run most iPad Pro apps on a huge virtual screen.
I wonder if DaVinci Resolve will be updated to support VR mode, so while on the Fusion page, you could walk around your scene in 3D and place objects, lights and cameras. Could this make giant LED walls obsolete in digital production? Where do you see this going?
Finally apple realeased final cut pro on ipad pros 😂😂
I missed the part about why one would want to go iPad instead of laptop. On one hand, you can touch the screen. On the other hand, um, everything else? Not being snarky - I really want to know. iOS is easier to use but less powerful.
I’ve talked about this topic _a lot_.
and now Apple just announced Final Cut Pro on the ipad....
That video aged like fine milk 😂😂😂
Only commercial
Apple has changed their MO regarding their own software like FCP. They understand that by having their own space, they disincentivise developers from making their own iPadOS apps. For iPadOS to succeed, it relies on dev support, so Apple understands that supporting and not competing against them is a better business model. It appears to be working.
So, all these whining creators that still do not get it should support devs and buy DaVinci and use the iPad's potential rather than making videos on how they bought an iPad knowing it does not have FCP and are so disappointed it does not have FCP! You could not make that up!
I disagree that this is ‘whining’ on behalf of creators. My point with this has always been from a business owner’s perspective. Learning an entirely new video editing platform is a huge lift for my business and represents a real threat, productivity - and, consequently, revenue - wise. With that I mind, it seems illogical for Apple not to support its professional users by giving us FCP on the iPad. That’s what we’re getting at.
I’m fortunate enough to have two channels and therefore a viable option to give DaVinci a try. But if Solo Club didn’t exist, I’d still be holding Apple to account on this, I’m afraid.
@@MarkEllisReviews Yes, it is a pain having to move from one app to another, but if you want the ability to work on both an iPad and Mac, it may be worth investing the time if you can. For new and upcoming creators, I would suggest they jump aboard DaVinci from Day 1 and enjoy its support across the PC spectrum.
all sales and no content. disappointing
How would you fund free videos on RUclips? Genuine question - I’m not being facetious.
I have no issue with you having a sponsor its just too much and i turned off. i also run a youtube channel and know how videos are paid for. Thanks.@@MarkEllisReviews

I’ll be back tomorrow actually. I don’t understand your point - can you elaborate, please?
