@@sharonrigs7999 its for importation reasons, heritage idk but they are owned by taurus now, idk where they are made. For the 1870s open top models the safety is a screw you have to turn on the hammer to disable the hammer lol. So you never worry about it.
Nice video. I've never handled a Taurus single action revolver. A lot of people ask me about them. I'm curios if you know if the ejection housing is screwed directly into the barrel (like early 1st gen colt and Ubertis) or into a lug like (2+3rd gen colt)?
I found your channel a couple years ago and you helped me learn alot about black powder revolvers when I started becoming interested in them. Thanks for the great videos.
Right now, the HSM using small primers is very interesting... with reloading components still often hard to come by, large pistol primers are extremely rare, while small primers are easily found. They assume everyone's reloading 9mm. Having .45 Colt casings that use small primers could be very useful.
It looks great ❤. Maybe Altima will make some Beautiful grips for it soon . 1873 Colt Model "P" said to be the most natural aiming Revolver EVER made 🤠. You know, Colt did make them with black heavy polymer type grips , maybe for a better balance in hand , although walnut looks better to me . If you've seen John Wayne's six gun he has a yellowish orange grip I'm not sure but i think it some type of Ivory Maybe. But it's definitely one of a kind I've never seen another pistol with that color grip.
I can attest to the natural pointing. I have a second-get Colt SAA that has no front sight post - and it looks like a prior owner actually milled it off or had it professionally removed, as the finish where the sight would be is flawless. That's what caught my eye on this particular pistol, and ultimately why I bought it. At 30' it hits exactly where I expect it to - without a front sight. Only revolver I own that I can say that about.
Cimarron has that Rooster version with that aged ivory (fake) grip. They can't use the Duke or John Wayne as his name is copywrited by the Wayne family. Same with the Duke holster by El Paso, they had to change the name to #100 or something.
Dustin, I was interested in the shooting of this weapon after seeing the unboxing earlier. It does appear to shoot straight and smooth. As I said in my comment on the unboxing, I'm relieved to see it doesn't have that free spinning nonsense like Ruger builds. Having used SAA revolvers since childhood (started in 1958, yeah I'm old), when I bough a Ruger Blackhawk 44Spl on the 357 frame, the weapon lasted a month before I traded it off. Couldn't get rid of it fast enough. I simply despised it! So I'm glad Taurus built this weapon along the proper operation methods. It reminds me of the Bounty Hunter in it's action. Thanks for the update on this weapon. 👍
Yeah, but all of the CAS shooters swear by the Rugers and kinda look down on Colt clones. I don't like the Ruger free cylinder either and prefer a Colt or it's clone.
Yup, but they want to appear as being "period correct", but most are highly altered. Personally, I don't think much of this run up to a bench and firing as fast as possible at targets a few feet away. 🙄🥱
I hear a few took the cylinder pin out and shorted it. They had problems ejecting because the pin is way too long. It's a decent looking gun. I've had two because one was .44 spec. Sold it the minute it had problems during dry firing. The .44 tracker was in the shop four times in one year for a sticky cylinder stop. Three out of four times they couldn't fix it. So the dealer repaired it in house. Sold that real quickly. Now if I could find a real Vaquero.45. not a NV either. I need serious power, and fixed sights.
One thing to watch out for is the cylinder base pin bushing popping out of the center of the cylinder while removing the cylinder from the frame. Taurus is notorious for not having parts available for most of their guns and this little part would be a nightmare to replace. I have thoroughly enjoyed mine, so far. I chose the 5.5" 38/357 sku.
I'd love to see these guns with the Franzite imitation jigged bone grips, like the kind you see in old Hollywood Westerns. With that blued finish it would complete the look.
You have probably covered, or at least mentioned this at some point, but how do modern "cowboy action" rounds compare velocity, down range effectiveness wise to 19th century factory BP "serous business" rounds? I'm a big bore handgun and rifle kind of guy and I can't help but be curious. Excellent video on a SA revolver that, had it not been for you, I might never have known existed. Keep up the great work you do!
Have you had any issues with the action locking up? I have had mine do it a couple of times. I have run a couple thousand rounds through it doing cowboy action shooting.
Looks like a wonderful revolver. How many clicks? I own and carry my Piettas. But if Taurus would lower the price to that of Pietta, I'd buy a brace. I.have 2 Rossi r92s burying 3rd one this week, love them. Also own and carry Taurus th45. Taurus has never let me.doqn.
Personally, now im EXTREMELY torn! Do i go with the sexy 4 clicks of this or do i go with the ruggedness and strength of a Ruger new vaquero??? They have the same features as far as that transfer bar (which is EXTREMELY smart on their part.) But Rugers are TOUGH ASS GUNS and can handke ANY abuse. They also aint much different in terms of cost either.. ah sod it, im gettin a Taurus deputy. It can be my winter carry round whilst im dressed in me ol saddle slicker and black felt. (Yes, im crazy enough to carry a single six.. in tandem with my Smith and Wesson m&p9 m2.0 compact 9mm anyways) lmfao
Well...sort of. The lockwork is obviously different as it does not allow the cylinder to spin just by opening the loading gate, and that's a pretty big difference (and probably patented by Ruger). This is more a copy of some of the old German cheap-o SAA copies that came into the US in the 70's. Taurus has obviously going to use better steel and whatnot, but it's pretty similar to the old "Virginian" named guns that were made by (I think) RG. Maybe Roehm? Decent designs, but executed in cheap castings of Zamak (pot metal). I'm sure Taurus is using all steel. It looks nice.
I have a problem with mfg's sending products to be tested by people. Was this pistol cherry picked by the mfg to get good reviews. Talking about alot of $$$$. Would the pistol that I bought be the same. Go figure

Glad they didn’t copy heritage with the safety.

Having a first click safety notch seem superfluous with a transfer bar but is acoustically pleasing
Clicks are C.O.L.T.

If Colt grips fit the frame, they have a winner.
Good observation on the small pistol primers.

I also don't like the "Deputy " on the left side of the barrel. I do like Taurus though. I have a Model 65 357 that is fantastic.
Just picked mine up yesterday! Going to the range this week.
Nice! I’d love to hear how it goes!

my HR 22 mag had the safety bar
How much did you give for it, it's a Taurus so I figured it would be cheaper than most others
Gorgeous looking gun
Great video. Thanks for the review. I am going to check that revolver out for sure. Thanks again
Love Taurus
I had a mini panic attack when you loaded all six and lowered the hammer lol. 😅
I wonder how this, or the .357 would do with magnum "Ruger rounds"?
I don't know if it's Taurus or the distributors but the dealers aren't getting these gun with any regularity at all.
Impressive that the yellow steel target was 300 yards away and the bullet weight is 410 grains! 🤫

The cowboy action loads are lighter. Maybe I’ll do a video comparison with the chronograph. Thanks for watching!

How's the trigger pull on the Taurus dupty
Is it just me, but that's one BIG hammer !!!
What’s the price for this revolver?
Can you shoot hot loads through the Taurus?
Do COLT grip panels fit this Taurus Deputy?
Do you know if they will be coming out with a .44 Mag. or a .44 Special version ?
So the big 10,000 dollar question is... did make this strong enough for Ruger tuff loads?
Of course not🥴 look how thin the top strap is
Not if it is a Colt clone. Don't try it.

How much does it cost
How does it compare to the Ruger Vaquero and Colt as far as size? Would make a good video comparison. hint hint
are these flat spring or coil spring ?
Yep

that's a man stopper carl colt made them even
Hope it is a good gun
Thats the rub, you never know when you buy a Taurus/Rossi. If you get a lemon they may or may not correct the issue.
So, this is Taurus's version of the Ruger Vaquero
No it's a version of a colt which the ruger is a copy of
@raymillsap8613 the Colt doesn't have a transfer bar, thus the Ruger reference
