Hey Im a rakan main and have been since the release. I enjoy building Locket (and did in the past) especially when I have to offer more peel to my carries rather than just engage if we have either poor follow up or if they have a more diver focused team (say assasins or hecarim and the like). Locket allows much more sustain and lets you tank and peel for longer while using your cooldowns defensively to protect your carries, as well as the active aoe shield of course. Would recommend but tbf I do this more often in flex or clash or when I have a good duo that i know will be useful as long as I can peel for them, otherwise sometimes its better to still go shurelyas and look for picks.
I am main rakan too but i prefer build mandate or shurelya because all his skills scales with ap, and in mid/late game u become real strong. But the worst thing of build him ap is that u jump on enemies but u dont have resistences
It is very unconventional and I only do it in norms but going tank rakan with the new tank mythics is pretty fun, I enjoy building frostfire and autoing after I engage to make a slow field and further soft cc the enemy, is really fun! But again it's rather unconventional :D
Great guide Nasteey, thanks so much! Rakan is one of my mains but I knew I could learn some things out of your guide anyway, just as always actually. Keep going on :D
I agree with relic. If you took spellthief, it forces you to poke the enemy, which can be hard if say, you're working against a cc heavy support or a long range adc and it'll take longer for you to get your wards out. Spellthief is better for longer range supports like seraphine or lux or champions who can poke aggressively like Orianna
Yo I'm d4 atm with Rakan Rell being my main champs this season. I've been watching your content since Yuumi's release. You mentioned a bit about the Rakan enchanter playstyle with 3 points in Q max E. Would you consider Redemption 2nd instead of Zeke's for the Ability Haste and supportive qualities for that enchanter playstyle or would you still say Zekes is better? Also for the video you didn't mention the best kind of lane partners for Rakan. Obviously Xayah being one of the best but who else would you say Rakan pairs well with?
The early points in Q are just to help with the lane phase but the playstyle late game is the same which means you want to engage and be tankyish while doing so. This means that Zekes will still be the better option. As for lane partners, Rakan works with anyone really, since he can scale and play safe with passive ADCs or play aggro with aggressive ADCS.
I'm g2 and i've been one tricking rakan since the start of the season, love him, but i struggle a lot against some match-ups. Should I invest time into learning another champ to counter them or should I learn how to play against them as rakan? I'm interested in playing pyke or thresh (to counter long range poke) but they seem very challenging to play. Would love to have your opinion on the matter. Great vid as always!
It's probably best to just avoid blind picking Rakan if you struggle in the counter matchups. Thresh is challenging but a pretty good blind pick if you're interested in picking him up!
Ty for this video dude. It was a very informative and straight line to follow now stupid and annoying stuff. Finally someone making vid that is not totally boring and stupid. Hope you will make more vid of champions. tyvm
I think Zekes is simply too good to pass up on. The active is really strong on Rakan and the armor is very important for engaging without dying. Not a bad idea though.
@@Nasteey Zekes is so underwhelming this season, it really doesn’t feel worth it most games (looking at how much damage it actually did at the end of the game). On another note, you show clips with the old zekes which was his Core item, when now it doesn’t do much other than a bit of damage for ur carry
Anyone noticed the wrong rune Names? :O Gread guide, i realy like the Matchup / Laning part in it especialy that you say what you have to look out for. How about a Galio support guide. He can be an eyesore for the enamys and would like to see what you could do with Galio on Support :) Keep your work up buddy
What do u think about ap rakan support? For a mythic i get battlesong (or Rocketbelt if we are winning) and after that i get cosmic drive.Rakan scales very well ap so why dont we use it
AP Rakan has really poor win rates. It seems like people only know of it due to people smurfing and making it look good. The standard build is much better.
For skill order, wouldn't it make sense to alternate putting points in W and E so that their cooldowns are about equal at all times? I mean...its usually not a good idea to engage with W if your E is not available yet.
You typically only alternate maxing abilities if you have one ability that is completely useless. I think of Jhin for this example, since I've seen a lot of people alternate between Q and W. Rakan doesn't have any completely useless abilities so there's no need to alternate. Just max W first.
Why the other channel's vids stopped tho? I liked them a lot... I personally prefer to watch one of them than a lec or lcs game because I can get more things to my gameplay and get better (no time for whole streams so it's a nice way to see the one game you thought is the best of the day)
They haven't stopped I just don't have any footage to upload at the moment! As soon as I get some good games to upload they'll go on the second channel
I like to put 2 points to my e then w again on my e and then one last on w so both e and w can have the same cd so I can engage and disengage with safety
you should rly mention banshees veil as an essential item versus zoning CC like Veigar or Poppy, that can fuck up your entire engage in a second and gets you killed.
@@Nasteey how do you prevent from being stunlocked by aoe cc then? if you dont know, when you get cced during the animation of your W or E, it gets canceled and u will stay in between your targets absolutely helpless... Almost every mage and tanky support has some sort of this disengage CC that can fk up rakans engage entirely. Besides, the ability haste, hp and mresist stats that are perfectly fit for rakan.
Leona is a counter early game for sure but Rakan wins the matchups late game. She doesn't have the right cc to stop him from engaging or stop him in the middle of an engage.
I know but giving the time Rakan spend in combat and the ability haste it provides u basically got your W every 4 seconds or so and the healing cooldown in insanely low that it makes him heal good you know, try it out😅😅
Can I ask why aftershock is not that good? It gives rakan as or and Mr as soon as he immobilizes an enemy and then damages them a bit. After that he can disengage with e (asking to learn)
Great question! Guardian is simply more reliable and can be used even when not engaging. Also, as Rakan you're typically getting in and out of fights quickly so a shield will help more than resistance. The stats you get from Aftershock are good for tanks who get in to fights and stay in the middle of fights. Rakan doesn't stay in the middle of fights.
Oh ok I was thinking that while engaging it helps more not to get oneshot but now I see what I was doing wrong... Overstaying... In and out... I will give the champ another shot cause I like the kit and I left him because I wasn't being as valuable as with other Champs so I couldn't climb thanks very helpful as most of your vids
I’ll answer you as a otp rakan. No you’re not wrong, aftershock is really good on rakan, specially this season when you get burst down while engaging. If you’re facing an engage supp in laning phase (leona, naut for example) or if you’re the only engage on your team or if you’re feeling you might die against burst comp. Guardian can help but 200hp shield is for me less useful than a huge amount of resistances (but is better to peel your carries). Finally many runes can work on rakan (like electrocute) but in the current meta i think aftershock is usually my go-to. If you have some questions to ask i’ll be glad to answer it.
have you seen this document? what do you say about the points? Why Guardian sucks on Rakan: 1. Rakan's passive doesn't count as taking damage 2. Huge cooldown comparing to other runes 3. (Poke) In early levels (1-4) there are only few skills that can deal enough damage to proc Guardian (MF Q crit or Caitlyn’s Q 1st target are one of that skills), so until you don’t get hit by one of those then you have no rune 4. If you want to fight lvl 1 with W then you will be too far away to be in Guardian’s range until you start to running but then simple auto attacks won’t be enough to proc it anyway 5. If enemy's attack won't do Guardian's damage threshold with 2 auto attacks then they can just slowly DPS’ing and it won’t be proced until you are about to die 6. Enemies can fool AI by dealing ALMOST enough damage to proc Guardian and then add joke damage like Scorch/Aery/Cheap Shot etc. or just auto attack to deal Guardian's damage threshold (Guardian calculate all damage you get and will proc if you get enough damage within 2.5 sec, which means it can be proced in last 0,5 sec after burst which wasn’t big enough to deal damage threshold by itself and needed like auto attack) 7. Shield skill does count as taking damage so if you use Rakan’s E (or other shield skill) and damage will be big enough to pass threshold then shields will stack which is bad in early since most of the time enemies won’t have enough damage to take whole 2 shields, so at least one is wasted 8. imo runes which you don’t have control are worthless because enemy decide when to use them, if enemies are good enough they can negate all runes like that, similar rune is Bone Plating but this one can be actually 100% useless, Guardian will proc eventually when you are taking lethal damage but it used to block damage when YOU wanted before change
One additional point which I noticed is that if you are leashing your jungle in the beginning of the game , guardian will proc when the red/blue buff starts hitting your jungler if you stand within guardian range to your jungler, leaving you without the guardian shield by the time you start to fight the enemy botlane lv 1
Guardian is the best rune for Rakan if you look at the win rates. People can have their reasoning as to why they think it's bad but at the end of the day if Guardian has the higher win rate than any other option, then there simply isn't any counter argument.
