I really don't understand why everyone has a problem with AM. Yes, it doesn't sound like their first album did. But Alex Turner isn't 19 anymore, either. Bands develop as time goes along, and if anyone wants to tell me that their music taste is the exact same as it was ten years ago, I'm sorry to inform you that you are stuck in a rut.
I've been a Hip Hop junkie since around 1997. That's almost 23 years now. I completely reject the utter dogshit that masquerades as mainstream Hip Hop these days, which is practically 100% of what's on the radio and TV. I wouldn't consider myself stuck in any rut - just more appreciative of truly great music from a bygone era that was never appreciated in its own time.
I tried listening to the Monkeys several times in the past 7 years or so. I could never really get into them. I respected the music and them as musicians, but it never really "clicked," you know? A few months ago on a whim I listened to a song off of AM and loved it. Listened to the whole album and loved all of it with a passion. It was on repeat for weeks. I then decided I needed to check out all of their work and I love all of that even more. They're currently my favorite band and I cannot understand how I didn't find all of their music kickass before.

this is easily one of the best pieces of satire ever committed to a rock n roll tune
"The band were fucking wank, and I'm not having a nice time". Damn, it deserved a videoclip.
I had to do a presentation in HS about San francit and used this track in the background. People complimented it. Lol memories.
One of the best lyrics of a generation. You're not from New York City you're from Rotherham.
They are from nearer Rotherham than Sheffield!
brilliantly written song IMHO.. Like it, Love it.. Top drawer band and track
one of the most underrated bands ever.
