“Anticipation has the habit to set you up for disappointment”. What a way to start off a debut album
I had never thought about that! Legends
Very few people appreciate the significance of this line, but I’m glad you pointed it out because it’s just such an ironic first line to an album that had so much hype itself
Great observation. The whole first verse is basically 'Welcome to Arctic Monkeys.'
ironically, this album doesn't disappoint
they really are amazing
I spend a solid 8 years trying to find this song after hearing it on MTV one night. So glad I finally fucking found it.
Oh my God, that's the worst feeling! I'm glad you found it eventually :)
Why didnt you just put "Anticipation has the habit of set you up" in youtube?
@@sebasm29 because he probably didnt remember the fuckin lyrics dating back 8 years worth of searching you dipfuck
Congrats Mate, I know that feeling
Next time just google whatever you remember, such as lyric or anything. I google this song as ‘arctic monkeys song with one man drumming’. Its work!
Matt Helders, one of the most underrated drummers of all time.
Sure he's awesome
Yes.
I don't think he is underrated. I think he's praised and rated very highly pretty much universally
He is soooo god omg! one of my top 5 ! i love his style
Not really underrated , people never seem to shut up about him
Has to be one of the greatest debut albums in history
2006: Masterpiece
2023: Masterpiece
masterpiece forever
I came back from 2050 to tell it's still a Masterpiece
they really started the album with “anticipation has the habit to set you up for disappointment” but made it one of the greatest albums ever
And the best, that was the debut album. So they practically introduced they band with that lyric.
" when she pressed the star after she pressed unlock" damn those are such nostalgic vintage Nokia feels
Omg, I never realized that before..epic
What does that mean?
@@pi3416 on old Nokia phones you had to press the 'unlock' button (which usually was the one on the top left) then the * button to unlock the keyboard
@@valeriovigino358 thankssss
Those Nokia's survived almost any fall most liquid spills. Even spilled Coke on it and it survived that. They were sturdy 😊
Global pandemic:
Everyone: arctic monkeys on repeat
Haha yeah
For real tho
Goodness Arctic Monkeys
Alex Turner the poet
Voige I bet this guy doesn’t even really drum for The Munkees.
Trueee
I can't believe that this song is 14 years old.
Yeah, I remember listening this as a school kid back in 2006. Can't believe I'm 25 now lolo
This song is as old as I was when I was listening to it.. Feeling old haha
@@marjolainemartin1915 yeah, people got married because of this band. Crazy
@@swtoni4464 as old as me then! Don't worry, I'll make sure to pass this music onto the next generation.
This song is the same age as me aha wow. Glad to know that the Artic Monkeys are still relevant after 14 years.
I wish I could have seen them live when they played these songs
They still do
@@nicolamorales7081 You're correct, they still do. But not with the original bassist, and nowhere near the same amount of energy that they used to do it. Look at their first Reading and Glastonbury gigs, and I think that's what she means. They were something else between 2006-2009
couldnt agree more, also wanted to see the roses
30 it's not too much, it's not like they are in their middle forty or something
Thats pretty sad i ve seen them when i was 6y o only waiting for my propeller and crying lighting and now i know that i missed all those godlike songs
This video reminds me of my son many years ago.I took him to his first drum lesson,I felt I had to explain to his teacher why he had massive calluses on his hands. from playing the drums on guitar hero 12 hours a day when he was 6 years old.Now he plays this song on his Pearl Drum kit exactly like this,We love Arctic monkeys!
Have a nice day
Is he still playing?)
Simply beautimus
Congratulations
what about now?
Everytime I hear this song I remember all the way back in highschool, I didn´t have any internet on my home until 2009, I couldn´t listen to any music other than what was being played on the radio. After I finally got internet on my home I did nothing but listen to music, from the likes of Coldplay, Linkin Park, The Strokes, etc. One day a friend recommended me the first Arctic Monkeys album, so what I did was download the whole album on my Ipod 2, putting my headphones on and just listened as how this song filled me with such passion and energy, it felt like a rush of blood to the head, which such a rhytm that I couldn't get out of my head and how I fell in love with the band. To this day I still feel that everytime I listen to it and it has become my favorite Arctic Monkeys song since then.
Amen!
A rush of blood to the head...i see what you did there
It's amazing and imperessing so much. I would've wanted something like this
homework???
Same, same, same
Unlossly, Arctic Monkeys
Alex, Matt, Jamie, Nick melting my heart forever
Mood Life Is them, always in a Little blind corner of my heart
Petting my heart
Old albums=great
New albums=great
exactly
Yeeaaah.
Thank you
Agree!
So, Old albums = New albums.
But it's not true, haha, just a joke.
First song on a debut album -wow. The confidence with which they open is astounding given their age. Just raw, lean rock energy. Amazing sound.
so ahead of their time, makes you wonder who else is out there unheard
Imagine being a 18 year old lad and writing this album!? Out fucking standing!
Probably their best song.
Nah, in my eyes that's Mardy Bum, but then again, there are so many great AM songs that it's nearly impossible to choose a strong winner. 😅
+MassimoCruz Exactly
MassimoCruz yessss and everybody has their own favorites and own memories in each song that make it the best
Abhishek Basnyat nahhh
Viola Fontellio a certain romance for me
“Oi mate I’m gonna have to ask you to stop. You’ve woken up 3 flat blocks worth of people”
Ohh your playing arctic monkeys, do carry on
Matt Helders drumming his fucking ass off. The video shoulda showed him doing it instead of a model. Still effective tho. Best drummers track in years.
Matt Helders isn't an actor though, and the music video isn't about the arctic monkeys (it's actually about the path to enlightenment/Nirvana) so it wouldn't make sense
Your comment doesn’t make sense 😂
The drummer is the 1st Arctic monkeys drummer, quit after 1st album
@@paulhodgetts1803 yo matt helders, the drummer has been with the Arctics from the start. Andy Nicholson played bass on the first album and was subsequently replaced by nick omalley. Think that's who you were thinking of bud.
@@stephenoldham9586 sorry, I'm wrong...... Again, this Google bollocks is proving me a liar...... Or a fool😜
the punk flair is what I miss the most from old arctic monkeys, I want this kind of energy back.
i waited for him to shout "ive got blisters on my fingers"
what?
It's a Beatles reference.
Michał Kosmala hahah love it
Helter Skelter
Audrey R Your comment just makes me sad
Almost 10 years of this amazing song
+oskarstankovic Aaaaaand boom

Incredible how time passes away isn't it mate?
This song is my age
[Verse 1]
Anticipation has the habit to set you up
For disappointment in evening entertainment, but
Tonight there'll be some love
Tonight there'll be a ruckus, yeah
Regardless of what's gone before
I want to see all of the things that we've already seen
The lairy girls hung out the window of the limousine
Of course it's fancy dress
And they're all looking quite full on
In bunny ears and devil horns and how
[Verse 2]
Anticipation has the habit to set you up
For disappointment in evening entertainment, but
Tonight there'll be some love
Tonight there'll be a ruckus, yeah
Regardless of what's gone before
I want to see all of the things that we've already seen
I wanna see you take the jackpot out the fruit machine
And put it all back in
You've got to understand that
You can never beat the bandit, no
[Chorus]
And she won't be surprised and she won't be shocked
When she's pressed the star after she's pressed unlock
And there's verse and chapter sat in her inbox
And all that it says is that you've drank a lot
And you should bear that in mind tonight
Bear that in mind
Yeah, you should bear that in mind tonight
Bear that in mind
[Post-Chorus]
And you can pour your heart out but her reasoning will block
Owt you send her after nine o' clock
[Verse 3]
Anticipation has the habit to set you up
For disappointment in evening entertainment, but
Tonight there'll be some love, oh
Tonight there'll be a ruckus, yeah
Regardless of what's gone before
And you can pour your heart out around three o' clock
When the two-for-one's undone the writer's block
It's not 'Oh you send her after nine O'clock. '
it's ‘oat/owt' as in anything. It's Sheffield mannerism/accent. It should be anything you send her after nine O'clock
‘But her reasoning will block’ I think also
@@joerogers3092 yeah I just copied this off Google so I have no clue what is what
'Forlorn' is 'full on' is it not?
The music video and Matt Helders make me wanna learn to play drums.
Who's the drummer of the video?
Matt Helders is one of the most underrated drummers ever.
Drumming is amazing I do it everyday
me too bro, me too
can't stop listening to whatever people say I am thats what I am not, need that high energy
Hi, heve a nice day
I came here because my art teacher saw I was listening to their newer stuff and he told me to listen to it. 10/10
Listen to them live at reading in 2006 mate, all these old songs but faster and better, it’s out of this world.
This song is probably the best first song off of a debut album ever.
21st century schizoid man from "in the court of the crimson king" by king crimson is better imho, but it's all subjective really.
Watching them open their show with this even after 16 years was incredible, it still holds up well
Top 5 albums in my list for sure
Nobody forget how great this album is
we wont.
This is probably my 2nd least favorite song on the whole album and I still love it! Such a flawless masterpiece.
This video is an allegory. The drummer dude is Buddha and doing his thing with the drums(i.e. the buddha meditating) and the guys who are disturbing him are the demons that tried to distract buddha from meditating. And finally the girl is Sujata who fed buddha milk when he was weary and teary after meditating in a harsh manner. Cool stuff!!
Sure bro.....
Sure
sarcasm level : over 9999
I like this, but the woman seems more like another distraction than someone there to help.
Fascinating. I guess that explains why they cast a south asian girl in the video?
Dunno what you're talking about mate, but it sounds great!
A lot of people are missing the point of this video... It's an allegory. The drummer is Buddha (before he became Buddha). He is drumming under a street light (like Buddha meditated under a Bohdi tree for 49 days: in order to achieve enlightenment). The dude with the bat, who is basically God, can be seen at points in the video (1:10 and 1:32 he's in the balcony). He's monitoring the drummer and seeing if the drummer deserves enlightenment. There are the three dudes that approach the drummer; they're the three demons that try to scare Buddha with imaginary arrows and fire balls (the imaginary arrows are the chips, the fire balls come from the dude with the lighter). Once they notice that the drummer understands who they are, they disappear. The ending shows that the dude with the bat has gotten closer to the drummer, but isn't doing anything. Once the moon explodes (the moon being a symbol for a person's fake self, their ego, etc --- on account that the moon shines because it steals it's light from the sun... thereby making it a kind of fake light).... then, the dude with the bat gives Buddha his enlightenment.
you just saved me a lot of work in class lmao
which band does buddha play for
And the girl?
@@Sashimisoul It is Sujata, the woman who gives Buddha milk and honey (or milk and rice i don't remember very well) before he dies from the weakness of his body. I'm pretty sure the video is an allegory too.
Still giving me chills, even 12 years later. Best drummer hommage video clip there is. Thank you again.
Have a nice day
Just discovered these guys about a month ago....Good god this is good shit
Download the entire first album at once!
First I agree with Dylan, you should download the first album as soon as you can and unfortunately if somebody has just become aware of this song after 8 years, i think i should accept the fact that i'm getting old, cheers
@@dylancontento2267 go back to the original songs beginning of the time from how they met eachother and then the interview is pretty much to the point.

One of the best albums of all time
The Arctics of '06 and the Arctics of '19 are two worlds apart. Few bands have evolved this drastically yet maintained their standards throughout. Soundtrack of a fookin generation
They will never make a banger like this again. fact.
sad but true
I wonder if they would ever do a video like this now with so much attention being on Alex nowadays. It's almost the Alex Turner show when you hear about this band.
....no??
Ryan Arya Stop that bullshit right now.
Ye I have followed this band since they started, it does appear that popularity has gone to some heads, I hope not.....I play drums and yes this song frkn rocks, time will tell.....
Who's Alex Tuner?
Ye, I don't like their 'rocker' type look but like people say, they are evolving as time goes by but not sure if it suits them regardless of how talented they are, I love this video clip of the drummer being a drummer myself it is my favourite......:)
This song has a great message:
whatever happens never stop rocking!!!!!!!!
People who listen to it on low volume never lived life ;)
nobody ever listened to it on low volume
What is low volume?
@@ErnestoStaccolanana thank you!

+Craig Mackay tbf the constant drumming would get annoying :P
+pietzsche I wonder how loud it would be
+Warcher lmao, considering where it is, loud enough, and echoey :P
pietzsche Could be worse tho, there's a lot of space for sound to get out
Warcher That's what makes it echo tho :P
Came back here just to remind myself that Matt can drum after listening to Tranquillity Base Hotel and Casino fml
Kallum 100 percent agreed, in the same boat😭
I just farted and it smelled like Rotten eggs
Go to listen to Brianstorm lmfao
the greatest musicians are those who will fit to the song
I just saw them with Mini Mansions in concert and at the end of one song (might've been Brianstorm, can't remember) he went at it for about 30 seconds
Just bought their debut album on vinyl recently. This song still sounds goddamn fresh in 2022.
if you like arctic monkeys you should check out Lonely Gimmick - Grumpy Days, it gives me early arctic monkeys vibes and its a great new indie song
