    The Jake Origin Story: I grew up with glasses, 5.00 diopter high myopia, and yet today have 20/20 natural eyesight. No surgery, no glasses, I figured out how myopia actually works and how to reverse it (and no, not eye exercises!) The mainstream tells you it's impossible - but the whole concept that myopia is an illness, is complete unscientific nonsense (a 100 billion dollar a year profitable nonsense, though).

    I used to live with extremely strict parents
    I was allowed to leave the house twice a year (end of each school semester) which resulted with me either studying or being on my phone/laptop.
    And my myopia deteriorated even quicker during the lockdown.
    I started to see improvement after moving out and active focus and all the "better" habits.
    It's crazy how much simple lifestyle changes can do

    Hi, I'm here because my eyes gets worse after this pandemic happened. Back in 2019 I'm not wearing any glasses even if I had 3-4 diopters and I can see far objects using my phone camera, but then my mother decides to visit optometrist again and have my eyes checked and they said I was at 4 diopters, so they prescribe me glasses that time. It's hard to adjust at first because I get headache often after school. Then this pandemic happens and I can't go outside due to our area being close enough to each other or like just imagine it's just meters away from our neighbors and I was on my phone the whole time and I was less productive. I notice my eyes gets worse because of this and I'm hoping your vids will help me. Everyone's saying I'm gonna go blind but because you said myopia isn't illness but a refractive error, I had my hope back. I'm gonna go back here after I improve my eyesight. Wish me good luck!

    Jake, I would be really interested on your take on the idea that Sunlight is the prevention/cure for myopia. There is a body of research that suggests myopia is really caused by lack of sunlight, due to a reduction of time spent outdoors in modern society causing a certain neuro-transmitter called Retinal Dopamine to be deficient. This hormone is responsible for switching from rods (for blurry night-time vision) to cones (for high definition daytime vision) in the presence of daylight.
    In experiments (Ashley, Australian National University in Canberra), myopia could be induced in chicks by reducing the amount of daylight they were exposed to, and further, myopia could be induced by blocking the dopamine neuro-transmitter, even in good levels of daylight.
    What I find interesting is that this sunlight theory fits all the scenarios:-
    1. 2% farmers have myopia but 34% of academics
    2. Children who spend more time indoors develop myopia
    3. The Iniut of the Artic develop high levels of myopia since education programs were introduced
    4. Near work doesn't seem to be a factor
    5. Exercise doesn't seem to be a factor
    6. Children who live in Australia have reduced levels compared to Asian children
    7. Myopia was on the rise BEFORE iPads, iPhones
    8. Myopia began rising as warning about skin cancer by sun exposure
    9. Myopia began rising in China as exams were introduced for universities
    10. William H Bates made no secret of the fact that he didn''t know why sun exposure was important, only that it improved eye-sight
    A film is available on this subject featuring Dr. Ashley's work: ruclips.net/video/DjdkbcOx05A/видео.html

    • @endmyopia
      @endmyopia  6 лет назад +17

      My take is that the idea is 5th grader logic on so many levels. 1. Myopia isn't an illness - it's a refractive state. Your eyes aren't sick, they're simply adapted to a minus refractive state. 2. That "body of research" is a joke. The evidence that myopia is first NITM and later lens-induced is pretty overwhelming - search Google scholar, the results number in the tens of thousands of papers. endmyopia.org/end-myopia-home/

    • @TheExpeditionUK
      @TheExpeditionUK 6 лет назад +3

      Really pleased to hear you say that, as the sunlight theory leaves little room for reversing the condition. There are these pesky Australian experiments though, where they can induce myopia by removing sunlight or by blocking retinal dopamine, both of which have the effect of elongating the eyeball. And of course, Bates himself realised the sun played a part in eyesight problems. Could the Ashley myopia be simply NITM masquerading as low-light induced myopia, perhaps because it reduces the chicks depth of vision?

    • @endmyopia
      @endmyopia  6 лет назад +7

      Lots of possibilities. Me having only a small brain and a limited attention span, I tend to go for the simplest solution that produces results. Which seems to be focus challenge, habits to consistently clear some blur, wear lowest diopters appropriate, and spend lots of time using distance vision. Got me out of -5 diopters of myopia, so wee-brain-Jake likes the simple approach. ;)

    • @jnananinja7436
      @jnananinja7436 6 лет назад +5

      Research definitely points to a few major myopiagenic factors. Low luminescence levels, not focusing into the far distance, excessive nearpoint stress and I would even add a relatively unacknowledged one - dry eyes are some of the major culprits. Direct outdoor daylight is somewhere in the vicinity of 130,000 lux with outdoor shade being around 20,000 lux. Even good indoor lighting only comes in around 100-500 lux. You can "see" the problem for eyes that evolved in a natural outdoor environment.
      www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3742693/pdf/nihms479950.pdf
      Its important to realize that myopia begins early even though it seems to just suddenly appear. Myopiagenic factors accelerate the eyeballs natural axial elongation and eventually the accommodative system cant compensate. Luckily, Jake and few others are demonstrating that the eye can reverse this trend and emmetropia can be established once again. But myopiagenic factors must be reduced or counteracted.
      To get your acuity back, the most important thing to understand is that you have to constantly create/manipulate conditions to stimulate your eyes to attempt to focus. If light levels are too low, they wont try. If the image is too blurry, they wont try. Its funny, but once you've been at this for a while, its fairly obvious what helps your vision or hinders it. Approach it like a person trying to loose weight. It takes persistence and time, had ups and downs, good and bad days, but the method is true. Best of luck!

      It is a process of finding how your lens muscle contract and relax. But here is what I did.
      I try to look with my single eye to to any youtube subtitles, make sure you turn on the captions, stay in a distance when you see the text about 5 - 10% blur. Keep the distance and look to the text, blink your eye and you will probably get a clear text for a moment and turn back to blur. Keep trying until you can hold the clear image for longer time. Once you make it, try to make the object far again until there are slightly blur, blink your eye.
      You have to try it yourself, because explaination doesn't help much, it is a process of how your lens muscle and brain nerves get connected to adjust for vision.

    I got a weird thing going on where if i get really relaxed and lay in bed and look at a eye chart while covering eyes and just going into extreme eye relaxation my eye sight on that paper is near perfect but comes in and out. I just started a week ago and see 20 20 with -2 and was just prescribed -2.5 and -2.75. I started this because they dropped me down to that from -3.25 and i got the idea playing around before i even knew about this but gave up because i assume wasnt true but when i got a lower prescription i started looking into it

    i stopped wearing eyeglasses and contacts back in 2008 with the hope of my eyesight getting better naturally. -1.75 diopter in both eyes and astigmatic. I did get better within 1 week. A half a diopter i would say. But 13 years later I am at -2.50 diopters. Not sure what i could have done differently. Maybe more use of pinhole glasses. One thing i know for sure is that once you start wearing corrective lenses for myopia, it will seal your fate as permanently myopic. Something about wearing contacts and lenses seems to do a lot of long term damage.. Let me know if I am wrong in this assumption.

    • @weneedmoreconsideratepeopl4006
      @weneedmoreconsideratepeopl4006 3 года назад +3

      it's hard to use pinhole glasses because you have to turn your whole head/neck just to move your vision. How about pinhole contacts instead? But where were you able to get pinhole glasses? DIY?
      And this is just my logic, but since your eyesight got better back then without any crutch (eyeglasses) and it got worse the more it got used to using a crutch... maybe the eye is just that adaptable.
      As Mr. Jake said: myopia is not an illness, it's a refractive state due to the eye's attempt to adjust.
      So no, it's not permanent (unless you really do have an illness).

When i do work on my computer at night, my eyes tend to get tired and i cant see as clearly at night. How can i clear the spasm at night? When i look out of my window everything is so dark and theres pretty much nothing for my eyes to focus on. Is there any suggestions for me to relax my eyes and reduce the strain at night?

      You can get perfect vision but you must take it seriously. First, learn what makes your eyes myopic like too much nearpoint reading and not allowing your eyes ample time to look into the far distance in good bright sunlight. This allows them to relax and achieve focus on objects in the distance. If your glasses give you perfect vision, you need to get slightly weaker glasses that give you a tiny amount of blur... try -1.5 and -1.25. Wear these and practice by looking at sharply defined edges in the far distance. Vertical and horizontal, high contrast. Gently blink and wink until your eyes start automatically pulling sharp focus. This may take a 6-8 weeks and you should be seeing perfectly out of the weaker glasses. Then get both eyes equal, get glasses that are -1.5 only. Work with these until your eyes are even. Then keep getting glasses that are 0.25 weaker every 8 weeks or so. Also.. don’t bring anything you are reading too close to the eyes. Practice pushing the print to a point of slight blur and try to blink to make it clear up and sharpen. That should get you started.

  • @DoubleOpposite
    @DoubleOpposite 7 лет назад

    not even a 0.25 a year.. something is clearly wrong here.
    Is it possible that my ciliary muscle just does not want to relax permanently?

      phir 1 saal mai 1 diopter kam hoga aise kam hota jaega
      (isska matlab nahi ki exercise karna galat hai)
