Because I felt it was easier to hear the effects using a clean saw wave. You can do this yourself by opening up a DAW and putting a flanger or phaser on a vocal sample.
Just a question, but could there be a VoxFX tutorial for Alastor's voice from Hazbin Hotel? If you just use equalization and a high pass filter you can get an old-timey radio sound, but it's still pretty far off.
