This piece of music has an interesting history, being a Scottish march dedicated to Robert the Bruce and adapted by the French to commemorate their age-old alliance with Scotland in the Hundred Years War. The sentimental feel this has just gets to me, and this is so beautifully rendered here by the German Military Music Corps. Bravo!
6,000 Scottish troops went to France in 1439 I think, to help the great Jeanne D-Arc recapture Orleans, driving the English away. The tune was written by the French in the 1600s, and is used at military funerals across all branches of the French military. The best rendition is played by the Bagad de Lann-Bihoué, bagpipes, three types of drums, and the Bombards. And they have the great distinction of being Celts from Bretagne.

Dièses Lied wurde als hommage für die zwei in Afrika gefallenen Komando in anwesenheit des franzosichen Presidenten Macron gespielt von den Franz. C'est une longue histoire, la base de "l'auld alliance", l'alliance militaire des écossais et des français. Cette chanson est régulièrement jouée par les troupes de marine française. Elle a d'ailleurs été jouée à la commémoration des 2 commandos français tués l'année passée dans une libération d'hotage en Afrique. Tapez "hommage national invalides commandos" vous la trouverez. Non il ne s'agit pas d'un mauvais film, car il n'est pas allemand. 😋
I agree that some of their marches are quite stirring and very much in the oom pa pa style (Prussian Glory per example) but few match the creative genius of Kenneth Alford or even Eric Coates.
