    My rabbit died on my birthday because of this. My vet who sees 300 plus rabbits for a rescue, delayed treatment of septic arthritis and he lost movement in one leg. He then had 2 surgeries to clear the abscess, ongoing antibiotics bc the prescription was not strong enough, and in the end, they gave me an incompetent doctor who refused injection or iv antibiotics based on inconclusive blood results, he did not reference the rabbits history and he did not communicate with the owner of the practice, the original doctor who did the blood test that day. They were very cold with me, the 2nd doctor told me to let him go bc I had other rabbits and no money for more tests. He told me to let him do his job. I told him what my rabbit needed and he refused to listen. I knew my boy had the infection, needed help for the infection, anemia, and eventual sepsis. I eventually sent him a photo of my rabbits eye with pus coming out after his death.The only emergency vet they referred me to did not have the exotics vet working at the time and refused service. It was an absolute disaster and I am not doing well. If vets don't care about the animals do they also not care about destroying the lives of the human? I also caught it late because the infection was internal and my friend consumed my time the same week. I had to clear her house to be ready for sale because she left he crazy ex and moved out of state. I had to deal with the crazy ex and my mind was fogged. The only hope i have now is connecting with my boy spiritually. I have so many regrets.

    This is very helpful! I caught my bunny’s early symptoms . She had clear watery discharge from her nose and was sneezing from time to time. I went straight to the vet after doing a quick google research. And thankfully! She has recovered! Her nose is dry as ever and she’s back to playing and eating normally.

    A rabbit sneezing is adorable (as long as it's not all the time obviously). Freya had a watery eye once and it cost £60 to find out that there was nothing wrong! 😂
    I never thought of checking their paws for mucus, thanks for that!
    Head tilt is also a sign of ecuniculli so get your rabbit to the vet asap if you notice a head tilt, it's very treatable but will cause serious health problems if untreated. I'm currently having to treat all four of my rabbits for ecuniculli!

    You really are the BEST Bunny channel Amy ❤️ Excellent information here, and so well delivered. I hope never to see the snuffles in my bunnies, but now I’m educated about what it looks like. Greetings from Australia, and I’m following your advice about bonding my new magpie harlequin (Jasper) with my 4 year old deaf mini lop (Lily) ….so far so good, its only been a week of following your advice, but they haven’t shown any aggression to each other yet. I tried before seeing your video about bonding which ended in a huge fur fight between them. I stopped the process until I checked out your bonding video, and decided to start the process this week. So much better.
    Lily was previously bonded with our other bunny Holly, who sadly passed away last year. So I think bonding will just be a slow process, but I’m willing to but in all the effort to see if Lily and Jasper will become friends 🥰

    My bunny had multiple bouts of severe stasis for WEEKS each time! It was such hell for both of us because force feedings happened every 3-4 hours (I’m not working right now). Both of us hardly slept. We were seeing an incompetent rabbit vet, he refused X-rays and didn’t do an in depth mouth exam because that would need anesthesia in his medical opinion. I checked with another vet after the 3rd time he went through weeks of stasis and they refused to treat him (“go ask your regular vet”) but charged me for the visit! I then remembered a vet that was recommended by an ER vet a while back and called her office and she completed the mouth exam AND an ear exam with an otoscope within minutes at the beginning of the appointment. She saw blockages in both ears filled with pus and with the quick mouth exam she saw one side of his mouth had overgrown teeth. I’m so relieved someone helped us! I’m just worried about what happens with long term snuffles?

    My rescue bun Simba (and his entire family) has Pasteurella. Thankfully he is doing great now, had to put him on an aggressive treatment soon after adopting him. I don’t think the rescue ever treated him fully but I’m so grateful he is happy and living his best life now. Unfortunately it seems there was a Pasteurella outbreak at the rescue

    • @ThumpersMama18
      @ThumpersMama18 3 года назад

      I should note his mom was found abandoned at a park and gave birth to him and 5 siblings only three days after being rescued so it is possible that Mama got sick before coming to the rescue and passed it on to her babies. My vet says almost all rabbits have pasteurella but like humans some bunnies are more sensitive and depending on many factors some may never show symptoms

    All my bucks seem to get sick. When the first one got sick, we had him tested, no biggie, but he did get antibiotics. The other two now have the same symptoms, and it is very frustrating. No changes in behavior, they seem to have good teeth, they eat well. Unfortunately, it's $500 every single time we visit the vet, which is ridiculous. Apparently dogs are far cheaper.

    You may want to cover the importance of subcutaneous (injected) antibiotics in rabbits someday. I don't know how veterinary care is in the US but in the UK many vets are not well versed in rabbit biology and are prone to prescribing oral antibiotics which are terrible for their gut microbiome, risking gut stasis. Antibiotics should also be accompanied with a probiotic supplement.

    My bun caught snuffles due to treating his sore hocks (he is a thumper, especially when zooming or blinking), turns out they are linked, we finally have him on a more intense med, doxy. I caught it right away, so although it has been a stubborn bug to treat, he will 100% recover. Still working on it though, been 5 months of off and on meds for sore hocks then snuffles, before we could try the more intense one. So far, he has shown more improvement in 4 days on this new one than 4 weeks on the other one 💕

    Hello, i would really appreciate any advice about my rabbit, who seems to have early snuffle like symptoms. I spoke to a vet from a veterinary hospital that specialises in small exotic animals to see whether i should come in and she said no, that during the first cold snaps of winter it is common for rabbits to have irritated mucous membranes and that i should keep the humidity in my home high and wait and see whether the symptoms progress. Can you, or anyone else in this comment section confirm this occurence to give me some peace of mind?
    Additional information: my rabbit had extensive blood work done a little over a week ago that came back normal. An xray of her lungs done to rule out lung cancer also looked healthy. The tests were done because I noticed her breathing was shallow and fast but without flared nostrils.
    Her breathing has since stayed the same. New symptoms are a whistling breathing noise when grooming or excited, wet nose with transparant discharge, slightly matted paw fur, a fit of sneezing a day that lasts about 5 seconds, shallow breathing and occasional strange wheezing sounds when scratching her ears. Her appetite and digestion are normal.
    Also, I brought my rabbit inside a week and a half ago because of the cold and her arthritis. The weather really has been terrible, with snow, rain and strong winds. Usually she sleeps on a glassed off terrace and spends her days outside. Just in case this is information is useful.
    The vet is hesitant to start a treatment because if it is a bacterial infection it is difficult to find out the strain to use the correct antibiotic. Also, antibiotics are apparently quite damaging to digestive health so using them when not needed is not recommended.
    I would love to have a second opinion from somebody with experience :)

      Her "symptoms" disappeared within a few days. They reappeared this winter and after installing a humidifier (and removing fir tree branches from her room) they went away the next day. In my case I think that the vet was right and my central heating just makes the air too dry. In retrospect it also makes total sense why she was breathing so fast. She was an angora rabbit who has grown a thick winter coat and was used to temperatures of 0 degrees celcius. It's no wonder that she felt hot when moved inside and was trying to cool down. But I just want to say that this was one specific case and just because it didn't end up being anything serious with my rabbit does not make respiratory diseases any less serious and success of treatment any less time-dependent. Hope I could help and your rabbit feels better. @@morganwolfe2813

      helloo!! first of all congrats on becoming a bun parents! you can actually start introducing veggies to ur bun. start off with one vegetable at a time and give them in small amounts (ie give a tiny bit of the veggie everyday, slowly increasing in size). it’s hard to find vegetables that are completely pesticide free unless they’re organic, but just remember to rinse the vegetables before feeding them to your bun and it should be good :)) remember to google what kinds of vegetables can be fed to buns!

      I'm so sorry for your loss. Yes, you're doing a great job keeping your rabbit company. I'm that's been helping her mental health, and it's perfectly okay to keep rabbits inside

    My rabbit make this sneeze but I don't notice it when he's alone, no discharge either and he's still energetic. But here's what I discovered everytime I handle him (he didn't like to be held since early days) he make these sneeze and I'm scared when this showed up after I search it. I hope anyone could reply 😥

      It’s best you take them to the vet just to make sure everything is okay

    Hi sister, will this lead to pasteurellosis?

    • @TheBunnyLady
      @TheBunnyLady  3 года назад +1

      Pasteurellosis is another name for snuffles. I believe the term 'snuffles' is used more in the US, while 'pasteurellosis' is used more in the UK

    My bunny had watery eyes a while ago, on and off and then it’s gone but she also had these strange sneezing episodes where she has white mucus come out. Does this sound like snuffles? And her nose is also damp

      You should call your vet. Is she eating like normal?

      I would definitely get the opinion of a vet and keep an eye on your rabbit, especially if there was mucus. Watery eyes can also be a sign of tooth problems, blocked tear ducts, or some kind of eye irritation.

    I hate this video. How you grab the rabbits by its ears. And the cage, the wire floor is painful to their paws. Please improve.
