Who else loves bunnies so much???
Also, I'm aware European wild rabbits can breed with domestic bunnies, but here in the United States, Cottontails are a different species and CANNOT breed with domestic rabbits. I just want to clarify that since it wasn't mentioned in the video specifically :)

Meeeeee!!!! I have a lop named bailey ✨✨ before I got her I learned so much from your channel!
I love bunnies and your channel and lennon
They are my soul mates

Hello everypony.
Hey all you cook cats and kittens
Tyree Mack me too :•3
I teach at a city school where a Havana rabbit was abandoned. He was dropped off in winter, and survived well. In the spring he left himself into the enclosed courtyard, where he tunneled and survived another winter. This summer, the Principal wanted him gone due to his devouring all the pretty flowers. I tried to place him, but no luck, and the thought of caging him was appalling. So...I decided that the best thing was for me to free range him in our 1acre back yard. He shelters under the deck, and grazes in clover. He’s loving his freedom under our watchful eye....and now someone has abandoned another rabbit at our school. The live trap is set, and my Havana will soon have a free range friend...it can work!
Kentucky Roads 7 months later how did it turn out , can you post on you channel
I foresee even more rabbits in your future!
We need an ending bro
Hope they are both females lol
My neighbors set thier 2 rabbits free and soon there were 15 rabbits! one black one decided it loved my house and he survived outside with the neighborhood cats for 5 years! I was so heartbroken when he didnt show up anymore that my bf bought me the cutest babybunny KIKI! Hes going on 5 and has been with me to mardi gras 4 times! Hes a traveller! My only problem is his nails grow too fast and are too long to cut, what should i do?
Wild or Domestic, they still adorable💖
@The Lost Media Library wild are food.
Domestic are friend.
Dont mix em up
@The Lost Media Library Yeah should've worded that better. Pet rabbits are friend
"Domesticated" doesn't necessarily mean "pet" . Y'all need to get over your holier than thou attitudes. Domesticated rabbits are very often bred for meat, and the original comment was a joke anyway. There's no need to look any deeper into it than that.
One, I'll eat and the other I'll keep as a pet.
I agree
Hi! Just so you know I find it extremely interesting how a wild rabbit cannot breed with a domestic. One week before our female rabbit was going to the clinic to get spayed, a wild rabbit (brush rabbit, possibly) got in with my female. I tried to separate them but it was too late. Then we searched and realized there is no way she was pregnant but our vet told us it was totally possible (except it was kind of rare). I disagreed but he said don't spay her and see that I'm right. So we did as he told and 31 days later 3 kits were born (my vet was surprised the embryos didn't die), the runt having the exact pattern as his father (and he has an agouti pattern). So I guess they are hybrids? I don't know but my vet says most wild rabbits can make a female pregnant despite many people disagreeing (like I said it is a slim chance). I honestly don't know but the bunnies are healthy. And after research, domestic rabbit originates from European wild rabbits, which is very unlike wolves and dogs who came from one line of a large wolf-like dog and separated to become wolves and dogs. And there are little domestic rabbits that came from American rabbits. Still, don't understand it but my vet says it is possible for European domestic rabbits to breed with the American rabbits. Probably rare, but it could happen. It's all really weird.
Where is your location? How are the bunnies doing today?
Did you spay it after?
Wayyyyy too much wordXD
@@Gaysian69 Your education mustn't be very high then.
Lol
I’m not a rabbit owner, but as a pet owner in general I found a lot of this information very interesting and even important for owners. Now I’m going to do more research on my domestic pets
Great video, very informative! But I'd like to correct you on a small point. As domestic rabbits are descended from wild European rabbits, they're essentially the same species and can, in fact, breed with each other and produce fertile offspring, just as with wolves and dogs. However, wild American rabbits are a different species and can't breed with domestic rabbits. Just wanted to clarify that, because I know of a few instances here in England where wild rabbits managed to break into a hutch and impregnate the does.
Thanks, I'll have to read about that!
Was just about to say this myself ^_^
One of the storylines of Watership Down is when the wild rabbits from the down break into a farm hutch to get does to come back and live with them!
Yes, domestic rabbits are exactly the same species as European wild rabbits. They are able to interbreed and share all of the same diseases. Their dietary needs are exactly the same. This is very different to the domestic dog vs wolf as the longer length of domestication of the dog has allowed a lot more changes to occur in their dentition and digestion, not just physical appearance.
Also wild rabbits in the UK are the descendants of ones brought here probably by the Romans and kept in artificial warrens for their meat and fur
I have a wild rabbit, her parents abandoned her on the road, she is doing very good! Her name is speedy because she's really fast
I found a domestic rabbit in the woods last winter. She's black and white (mini) with probably some lionhead as the fur's really long around her neck. She's mostly white with black spots and tiny little black ears that are the cutest. I just finished a bigger habitat for her and she bites my bum when I sit in it with her. She loves being kissed on her back but hates being picked up. I named her Spooky because of the black around her eyes, looks like she's in a halloween costume
@@easytoslip She's lucky that you found her! She wouldn't have survived on her own out there :( I hope she's doing better now!! ❤
Took in a baby cottontail probably 3 years ago and he is still going strong, named him roger
Hobi's Slippers i have one her parents got killed by a dog I rescued her and her name is nugget because she looks like a nugget

I mean ngl domestic rabbits just be loungin' around getting what they want but wild ones be on their grind
“Never release a domestic rabbit into the wild. It will be terrified and not survive very long”
Australia:...
I think those were game rabbits for hunting though.
they wernt domestic rabbits. that was a transplanted population.
I once heard that Australia had a very severe rabbit problem is that what you're referring to
@@wolfiedabrony1802 oh the "they are destroying to many plants issue"?
The Australian rabbit problem is an entirely different issue. It's an example of how an invasive species can go out of control because the foreign ecosystem isn't designed to keep it in balance. Australia also has a severe feral cat problem which has destroyed their ecology so badly that some species may go extinct. Their cat problem is so severe that, in some areas, you can buy a hunting license to let you shoot feral cats.
The U.S. has plenty of examples of foreign invaders that are the same way. Burmese pythons are destroying the Florida wetlands. Pleco catfish are considered one of the most destructive invaders in U.S. rivers. Both of these creatures were somebody's pets that either accidentally escaped or were purposely dumped in the wild, and they started breeding like crazy and now nobody can get rid of them.
I had a wild rabbit, that I found when he was small in my garage, city center, alone. I kept him for the 7 years he lived. I'm so proud of my little bunny, he was so smart. I love him, and will always do so! 😍 ♥ 🐰
I had one wild rabbit named bunny.she too lived seven years with me.five months after she passed away I found another wild bunny which I named spunky and is my pet up to this day.🐇🐾
It seems seven is the average lifespan then? This is already three ppl in the comments.
I rescued a wild cotton tail and had him for about ten years in a 10 foot by 10 foot cage . He got away one day so we left the door open and he came back a few days later . I sure enjoyed him or her .
Did your wild bunnies become social and lose the fear? My current bunny is a domestic one and we let him outside in our backyard. He never escapes tho, and we always watch him because he's the type of bunny that will befriend a random dog, he lost that instant to run away from creatures.
John Moran but they said you cant keep wild rabbits,i have 4 baby rabbits right now and i dont know what to do i wanna keep them but everyone is saying get rid of them
45 mph! Holy smokes. I never knew they were so fast! My lug Hanz hops at lightning speeds of up to 3 mph for 5 seconds, then he sleeps for 2 hours.......laazzzzy🐰

"Like wolves and dogs, domestic rabbits and wild rabbits live totally distinct lives and are two completely different species." Except wolves and dogs are the same species. Likewise, domestic rabbits and wild European rabbits are the same species. Domestic rabbits are also capable of living on their own in the wild. In terms of temperament, we didn't fiddle with them all that much. Besides Australia, there's Long Beach City College in California, Whidbey Island in Washington, and Canmore and Banff in Alberta, among many others.
The lifespan difference isn't really a difference in the animals as it is lifestyle. Living in the wild is stressful and few animals of a rabbit's size last much longer than the two years you mentioned. Lifespan in captivity is much more comparable to a pet rabbit's lifespan.
Also pretty sure wild rabbits would adapt to a human's schedule if tamed. They're pretty flexible. I've seen rabbits hopping about the yard at most times of the day. I'm also pretty sure you give a domestic rabbit a chance and she'll surprise you with her burrowing skills. Thing is, a full warren isn't built in a day, they develop over generations.
Domestic rabbits are only friendly with humans if they're socialized early. Otherwise they act exactly like wild rabbits. Personal experience.
Their diets aren't really different, either. Timothy hay *is* grass. The fresh salad greens are nice luxury items for our furry friends, but they'd do just fine on the same mix of native grass, clover, bark, and Mr. McGregor's garden that wild rabbits do.
In short, domestic rabbits aren't as different from wild rabbits as you make out. It's mostly lifestyle, and domestic rabbits are a lot tougher than most people give them credit for.
@Eternal Spirit They're the same species.
If they cannot breed together, they cannot be the same species. You gave alot of anecdotes but absolutely zero proof of anything.
Oh and the "domestic" rabbits introduced to Australia etc were all brought for meat, they were no different from the wild rabbits in Europe.
@@FaithRox Are you replying to me or someone else in this thread? Because domestic rabbits and wild rabbits *can* breed together.
@Violetta Cai True. As I said before, dogs and wolves are the *same species.*
@Dex Tiger What's your argument here, exactly? Because mine was that there's less difference between domestic rabbits and wild rabbits than between domestic dogs and wolves. All your argument says is that they devastated an ecosystem that wasn't designed for for rapidly reproducing herbivores.
One of my dad’s mates had a rabbit who thought he was a cat, because he grew up with the cat, and he ate wet cat food with rabbit in it because he figured that was the food he was supposed to.
His rabbit was a cannibal.
Eh unless he ate rabbits then he isn’t really a cannibal 😂❤️
@@afnaan. The cat food has rabbit meat in it.
Damn, how
That sounds like something to get your rabbit killed

When I was 10, I caught a baby cottontail. I had Harry for almost 7 years until he died of pneumonia. I was able to bond with him like a domestic rabbit.
Now suppose Harry didn't want to be caught
RaceAna CarGram lol
Right. I was gonna say...they only live for "2 years" because they all get eaten.
Yup. The wild life is crazy, and stressful for them. Mine is almost four. He's not super close with anyone, but he begs when he wants food.
This is really fucked up. The only reason I also have a wild rabbit is because I found it with a broken leg. I would NEVER just catch a wild rabbit and throw it in a cage and call it my pet.
I love the way you can make it way less boring usually other people's vidoes are pretty boring
Edit :Omg I am so happy!!!!!!!
Very good video. We have a wild cottontail bonded with some domestic buns. She is 5 years old now (rescued as a baby), but she still acts wild sometimes. She jumps higher than the others and wild flowers are her favorites. She got totally tame with love.
0:56 "They are genetically different, and can't even breed with one another."
Well, yeah, not when you have a glass door between them.
😂👌
the wild one would probably murder the other one so its better to be safe
My neighbours rabbit got out and breed with a few wild Does and now there are coloured wild rabbits running around
Mythraen omg i saw dat
I like how wild rabbits look opposed to domestic rabbits
I would love there to be a breed of domestic rabbit that looks exactly like it's wild counterparts.
Right? I like the faces of wild rabbits more. Domestic ones have long faces.
I own 2 wild rabbits, they are my life 😍

So informative! When people question me about domestic VS wild I'm going to show them this video now.
I definitely needed this video because my parents think my two bunnies are the same as wild bunnies and shouldn’t be free roamed inside! They like them staying outside in a small playpen :(
OMG SAME PROBLEM AS ME
Shut up you two they are both rabbit ok
😠😡 rabies are the same thing
I mean a hutch is ok. Just make sure to let them inside for a while.
I adopted a Holland/Cottontail mix I found at an animal shelter, nibbling on some strawberries. Now, her name is Calico, and she loves to play. I usually take her outside for some playtime in the backyard. This video helped me understand some things she does out of instinct👍
I’m getting a bunny soon (4 days) and your videos help me understand what to do to help the bunny. Thank You ^^
You always deliver what might be a tad dry info in such a fun way... as usual a grrreat video.Thank u for helping the rest of us hone our rabbit knowledge 😀
Awww Lennon giving bunny kisses on your leg at the end... so sweet. One thing I never realized is how closely domestic indoor rabbits can form such loving affectionate bonds with their humans.
My rabbit loves running around our garden, jumping over anything in his way! 😂
Then he gets kinda tired so he opens the house door, jumps inside and sits under our couch 🤔
@John Dela Cruz some strange stuff there john
You are such a good teacher and bunny role model. Thank you for educating both young and old.
SO happy there’s finally a video like this out on RUclips. Hopefully this helps out a lot of people so they don’t accidentally hurt either species...
Gosh that was so informative. I have 2 house buns and thought I had read everything about rabbits but there was so much here I hadn't heard before. Thank you for your tireless work to help people understand rabbits better, and hope you have recovered from your accident x
Sadly, I've gotten both my domestic rabbits off the streets, but a few years apart. I put up signs and notices, but in the end I ended up keeping them. Luckily, a co-worker of mine was a bunny mom and helped me learn to care for Bubbi, my first rabbit.
You have been helping me with my bunny ownership thank you so much also I love your videos and lennon
I have a Dutch bunnie and she is 2 and a half years old . And wow I didn’t know hares and bunnies were two different species 💜💜 thank you for the informative video!!!
Great video as always. Your info is always so well explained and to the point. I've learned a lot from you and Lennon, and although my rabbits are not as cuddly they show me love in their own way and I've learned to accept that. 💜
It helped when I read that pet rabbits are not cuddly like cats (I have an indoor kitty) but I am still learning about my rabbit I got in March. It's all new to me.
We had a domestic rabbit someone dumped, and she lived with us nearly 10 years!

In a lot of places in Europe the Europium wild rabbit can breed with domestics my baby boy is half wild ( his dad was a wild rabbit that got into a hutch) and his body structure is the same as a wild rabbit and he has really unique agouti markings. When I first rescued him he was completely wild and terrified but now he’s a completely softie but he’s still way more hyper then your average domestic rabbit.
am i the only one is says "somebunny wants a hug" when my bunny is being all cute??
I've always wanted to know this! I love your channel!👍🏾💕🤗
And another difference is that, cottontails are not affected by RHD and myxomatosis has very limited impact.
in Europe, vaccination is recommended because these diseases are deadly and widespread.
Where do you live? RHD and Myxomatosis are not widespred in USA. And most common vector of RHD and Myxomatosis are mosquitoes in Europe. European Rabbit is not that common nowadays, it is Near Threatened in the wild.RHD and Myxomatosis are spread by unvaccinated meat rabbits and mosquitoes feeding on them, not that rare wild.
Yes, they may act as a vector, like mosquitoes, but diseases will not kill them.(RHD has a zero impact)
I love your videos! This one is pretty fun to watch hehe
We have a wild cottontail bunny that was found in a destroyed nest along with two siblings, I put up a video camera to see when mom would come take care of them, after two days of no show we ended taken them in and nursing them and now they all have homes that love them and they're very affectionate little guys.
Just got a bunny the other day, it's a mini lot and it's the best thing ever. Such a joyful little girl
This should be a ted talk!
"if you encountered an injured rabbit please contact your local wildlife center". if you did that in australia, i think they'd laugh at you....
In Russia, you will be laughed at
I don't get it...
@@bluephoenix9062 Wildlife services don't care about animals. They only care about stuff that can be hunted, so they keep them alive and let other animals die.
@@assassin9164
there is no use in keeping a wild rabbit alive if it is fitt enougth to make it you let them go if not you make it quick and panless
@@assassin9164 Yeah no.
I don't know about Bulgaria or Russia, but here in australia rabbits are a invasive species, a pest if you may.
So removing them is a top priority here, and this notion of wildlife services just letting animals die is very wrong, not always a injured animal will survive, hell the animal may just give up itself and die, its sad but happens.
And if they also care about animals that can be hunted isnt that a good thing? Would you rather have no one to control what and what cant be hunted and have hunters go all trigger happy?
Thanks for the info on wild rabbits vs domestic rabbits! Your videos are awesome! 😀
Edit: Thank you so much for liking my comment!😄

I always wondered where the hell do domestic rabbits come from, and why do they come in millions of colors and patterns when compared to wild rabbits. Like I know they come from European wild rabbits, but how did they evolved to look so different and cuter? I'm also assuming that people back in the day would see them as food, not pets.
There is a feral domestic bunny in my neighborhood! I’ve tried to catch it using a ‘Have a Heart Trap’ but no luck it looks like a Flemish Giant mix, and it’s gotta be at least 14lb! My guess is that he/she got to big and the owners thought it’d be fine in the wild. He’s still alive after 2 years, but he’s in touch condition.
Can you please do how to pickup a squirmy bunny? Thanks😊🐇
I've discovered that it's up to the bunny if it wants to be held.my rabbit adamantly doesn't want to be held but she does let me pet her and scratch her head.but some rabbits don't like being handled.best way to pick it up is from underneath to give rabbit full support of the body and a sense of security.it takes time.

binky boo MY RABBIT IS CALLED BINKY
Cool
Domestic rabbits can live outside. And depending where you live, is is healthy for them. And if you do build them a pen on your own you can control the size and you can put a roof and something to block animals from digging through the ground. And where I live there is no such thing as stray rabbits because people either keep their bunnies or give them to someone else who wants to take care of them
There was this really cute wild rabbit living in my backyard which is really weird since I live next to the city and you’d have to drive hours to get to a forest. It was so cute, I’d give it strawberries (I wasn’t sure if rabbits could eat strawberries). It sadly died, im pretty sure it was eaten by a bigger animals but the neighborhood wasn’t safe so it couldn’t have survived due to the amount of car accidents. I was intrigued with it that whenever I’d go to work I’d sing to it on my way to my mum’s car while it stared at me. So adorable.
I loveeeee rabbits they are sooooo cute I love them sooooo much
We love you Lennon The Bunny

I have a rabbit myself! He is a small, brown and white short haired bunny. He may be a brat, but he has one brown eye and one brown eye. The brown eye has a tiny bit of blue on it. He is only one year old! Ily Lennon!
Did anyone get it? "Hello every bunny!" At least that's what I heard! 😂
I have a bunny but she doesn't like to cuddle with me or anything. I'm scared that she is scared of me or I raised her wrong. :(
Same, my bunny doesn’t like cuddling either but she shows me affection in different ways
Rabbits are pray animals. If you want something you can hug 24/7 buy a stuffed toy. If you bought it from a breeder and know if the parents were nice then just give it space and it will ease up. It takes time, up to 2 years sometimes. If you rescued it, well, the rabbit could be from a backyard breeder or abused, in that case it will have a really hard time accepting you.
Thank you so much for the help. I will give her some space. Maybe buy her a few more toys. But thank you so much, This really helped!
Also is your rabbit Spayed? That can also make a difference as to how "friendly" they are.

This is a cute video. I started out searching about wild bunnies, as I have two (Bunni and Whitey) they are 100% wild born and raised. Over the last year I've made friends with them and they will even come when I call them now and take treats from my hands. Bunni will tolerate a little petting, but not much. I never had much interest in rabbits; I actually started out taming chipmunks! And well, now I have a whole slew of critters here that follow me around (which is great, I currently do not have any domestic pets). Thanks for this informative video, I learned a few things that can help me keep Bunni and Whitey my happy friends for as long as possible. 💖
I i’m so excited I’m getting a bunny today and thanks to you I know how to take care of it
There's like 50 rabbits in my neighborhood and they all just ran and I was sad :-(
Lennon, my friend has a (i think its a lions mane bunny idk) and she houses it outside in a HUGE outdoor pen and when it get cold she put him in her indoor cage or oudoor warm cage and plays with him a lot and feeds him hay and small umounts of carrot and pellets and combs him too do you think the bunny has a good life p.s she loves him sooooo so much.
Starburst The Stary Is he fixed? Does he have a bowl not a bottle? Does she go for vet checks? Does he have unlimited hay? Does her rabbit live indoors? It should be yes for everything!! Then you’ll know if he has a good life.

Here in Australia, we obviously have both wild and domestic rabbits, but in my family we have a rescued wild rabbit named Pebbles that was saved as an injured baby and hand raised. I’ve had a domestic rabbit before many years ago (I wish we had you channel back then!) but, Pebbles is literally the SWEETEST bunny I have ever met (and also the BIGGEST bunny I’ve ever seen!), and we all adore him so much. I’m not sure what our laws are in Australia about keeping rescued wild rabbits but we couldn’t imagine having to give him up and we would never try to breed him with any females (even though we couldn’t technically breed him with domestic rabbits) and his enclosure is secure, he can’t get out which would probably be a concern due to them being considered “pests” here (because they were introduced and destroy crops, still not their fault though 🙁). He was given to my younger sister as a present from the people who saved him and finally has a decent sized, safe pen outside in our yard, I try to push my sister to spend more time and put more effort into her bunny, but my dream for him now that I’m also living here where he is, will be to rabbit proof either my room or our entire backyard so he can free roam with the four ducks throughout the day (as long as someone is here to keep an eye on him) and get all the fresh grass and greens he could ever want 🥰 he deserves better than he has right now and I’m so glad that your videos exist so I can help make our Pebbles life the best it can possibly be. All I want him to have is safety, love/affection, food, friends (like our little white dog Melody who Pebbles has played with before and even done binkies around) and the best place ever to jump, binky all he likes and run around to his hearts content ❤️
Thanks Lorelei that wonderful assignment was so informative and left me thinking there are still things I don't know about domestic rabbits. Btw you dress Lennon so cute with her floral tiara.😊
Love your channel her for life
Both wild and domesticated rabbits are so cute and adorable
I have bred a wild caught rabbit with a domestic before... they can breed with each other.
That's interesting,What were the babies like
They can't breed, the wild rabbit was probably a domestic one that was brown.

This has been a *real* learning experience for me! I mean, I imagined there were important differences between wild and domesticated rabbits, but I had *no* idea the differences were truly *that* significant! Goodness :-O
