Yes my bun is most comfortable being near me, but not being held. Its important to keep their feet or at least one foot on the ground while playing with or grooming time. ❤ Never cradle your bun on their back. Ever. And it is critical to know how to pick them up safely. Great video!! Hay is essential.

They are not relaxed and enjoying it, they are in a trance mode, very unhealthy for them really. It's what they do in the wild when attacked. They are, after all, prey animals, so on their backs would likely be a very vulnerable position for them as in the wild, they wouldn't be able to run away if forced onto their backs. This is pretty good, but my lagomorpha (rabbit/hare etc.,) specialist vet, strongly advised against lettuce of *any* kind. His recommendation was to try, as you've very kindly advised, to replicate what they would eat in the wild. Lettuce, even those romaine lettuce, and some other things some might give their rabbits, are far too high in water content, but lettuce is notorious for digestive problems in rabbits. The majority of gut problem rabbits he sees, their humans always mention they give them lettuce. He said, in the wild, they would eat grass mainly, and safe herbs, definitely twigs (like hazel wood, willow, apple, etc., for keeping their perpetually growing teeth from overgrowing or developing spurs, and of course, their favourite dandelion leaves. Those can be grown in pots indoors, by the way, as can parsley, which is also a favourite too. Carrots have too much sugar content, so that's a bit of a myth too. Basically he recommended *99% hay* + water, with the greens but not too much, and you're right, always make sure they have access to *fresh* water. Over the years I've had many rescue lagomorphs from shelters, so yes, "adopt don't shop" as the bunny motto goes! My guys have always lived with the freedom to roam the entire house, danger-proofed like they are toddlers, no cables exposed to chew through. I use wooden slats and chicken wire to make a kind of door to hang on the other side of the doorframe as an extra door that I can close while leaving the solid door open, if for example there is a room I don't want them to have access to. They can still see you, but it keeps them safe if there are things they could hurt themselves on in there. Always remember their bones are far more fragile than a cats, so they mustn't fall from heights that could break their delicate bone structure. Smooth flooring can be tricky for them to grasp which will limit how they run, they slide too much, usually. Their skin is incredibly delicate, it 'tents', as my vet called it and that hurts and stays tender like damaged skin, if you were to comb them and tug on it in the slightest, so softish normal brush like a pure bristle hairbrush, is far kinder. Twigs and hay diet, really are their best chance at not having dental problems. Since I found that vet years ago, my bunny's teethe have never had any problems, thankfully.
Litter training is easy. If you have a large litter tray, like one of those boxes that are about 15cm high at the sides, and about 50cm wide x 60 or 70cm long, the sort that some use under their beds for storage. Fill that with the hay they'll eat, timothy hay is best, especially with dandelion flower heads dried in it, they love looking for those. You should find that they poop/pee in one main corner or end of it, and keep the other end clean as a whistle for the hay they eat. Bunnies do like to poop where they eat but that's why the box/tray has to be nice and long, so they don't contaminate their eating hay end. It also helps you to see how often they go to have a nom (eat) also you can see quite easily that they are eating regularly 🤗
Ok im glad I got to know why one of my rabbits runs away every time we approach her. I knew it had to do something with constantly picking her up, since i have little siblings they literally ask to hold the rabbits EVERYDAY and more than twice a day, I always say no when my mom isn't home but they will always call her and she will always say yes. Glad to have an actual excuse to tell the kids they can't hold them.
Hello! I am so glad I found your channel. I have had two rabbits before the last one passed away in March and I have missed them so much. They both died as senior citizens. Today I rescued to abuse case bunnies around 10 weeks old. I have never had bunnies before. So I need help with litter box training. Thank you for making these videos. They are so helpful. People really misunderstand them. My two new bunnies are still scared of me but have already started doing binkies and enjoying their new enclosures. They are Holland lops in a dark brown and tan color. So sweet!

A neighbor across the street has two huge bunnies or rabbits in an 8x8 cage for the past two years now. It disturbs me, they just sit there all day doing nothing. Seems mean to me. I think any wold animal kept as pets is wrong, unless there's an issue with the animal where it won't survive out in the wild on its own. This video popped up probably because I'm currently trying to research how to keep bunnies from eating all my flowers in the yard. Last year I didn't have alot of flowers and I noticed a big bunnie would sit in the lawn and eat all the clover, this year I don't have any clover since I sprayed for weeds and the lawn is looking great. I planted a nice wild flower garden that is growing great and also planted a bunch of wave pentunias all around the yard. Few weeks ago I noticed it looked like a mother bunnie with a tiny little baby bunnie, the thing is so cute, it runs so quick all over the place it's comical. But now I noticed the baby is hanging out in its own, found it camped out in the wild flower garden and tons of half eaten flowers. I had to put up a short fence around the garden out of chicken wire to keep it out and it seems to be working. I also mix hot sauce and water and spray it all over my pentunias and the bunnies seem to stay away from them now. The bunnies are still around, see them all the time. I find there waste in piles in the lawn and noticed crabgrass growing there, they must be eating weeds and spreading the seeds all over my lawn. Bunnies are cute but can be a menace.
@@scottmb99 only requires one or two sprays. Be mindful of that. And I'd suggest doing it outside or in well ventilated area as well as putting a towel on the floor because the dead fleas will fall off almost immediately. It may require another spray in a few days if eggs hatch. Just play it day by day but it killed all fleas with one session. Also treat any other pets you may have at the same time. My cat brought fleas in from outdoors. And wash all bedding and soft material in area. And sweep or vacuum.

I have a Flemish giant. She just runs around the house, she doesn't even have a cage. She doesn't chew on anything but her stuff. With 1 exception. I have to keep my shoes put up. She is like a dog when it comes to chewing up shoes.
Its really interesting to see the different views in different nations about keeping bunnies. Here in Germany keeping bunnies as natural as possible is pretty popular. That means outside in a save area that is as big as possible, no pellets and never only one Bunny. I personally don't keep them to be a big part of our family but because I want to care for them and watch them. But I guess German weather is simply better suited for bunnies.

I have always made sure my bunnies didn't get wet until today. I got 12 week old Holland lops today. Both of them washed their feet in the water just like a raccoon. I have never seen any do that before.
I agree with you keeping rabbits outside is a lot more dangerous, than having bunnies inside. But as you can Bunnyprove a home you can Bunnyprove an outside encloser. For that, you not only have to take care that your bunny can not escape their home. You have to make sure that predators can not get inside either. Also, I do agree not using a cage even for outside bunnies, instead, a garden shed that can be cooled in the summer and slightly heated in the winter is a must (You have to be able to walk around in the shed) Also, it's a must because of illnesses and insects to make sure the outside enclosure gets cleaned thoroughly every day. To bond with your bunny in the outside enclosure you have to spend a lot of time with your bunny outside, even in the winter. I had 6 Bunnys from 6 Bunnys 5 died because of old age and one I had to put down becouse of brain cancer. So I highly recommend if you want to keep your bunnies outside get information first on how to bunny and predator prove an outside enclosure.
cornstarch is essential for having rabbit imo because not only can you use it for cleaning them but it makes a decent coagulant in an emergency like if you have an accident trimming the nails. be careful with kale and other cruciferous vegetables tho as some rabbits get gas from them which can lead to GI stasis if left for too long. cilantro is great though! i struggle getting jojo to exercise. when he is out of his pen he immediately comes to me and glues himself to me for hours and hours without getting up. he only wants to snuggle!
I'm currently looking for a vet to spay my female rabbit, tho it's quite a difficult task at the place where I live (I'm from Czechia), as most vets here refuse to spay female rabbits unless it's necessary for them - therefore no prevention spays.. 🙁
My daughter has left us her rabbit. We never put her in a cage. During the night time she goes into our daughters room and has free roam. When we are home she gets free roam of her bedroom, the hallway and living room. We never let her go in the kitchen, bathroom or other bedrooms. She is very happy with that arrangement. Its funny because if our Rabbit is in her room and hears me coming into the living room, she rushes out to see me. I am the only one she does that with. When my daughter does come home from her work home she gets a little upset that her rabbit does not have much to do with her anymore.

Hi there I had a question about my rabbit. He's somewhat deaf and I was wondering if he needs more attention then hearing rabbits. I'm worried that he might think I don't talk to him. I've taught him a few hand signals which he responds too. He can hear loud sounds like when the dogs bark but not much else. I've tried clapping my hands and he doesn't react to that at all.
So we have a cage for my two bunnies, they are 2 months old. We do let them out in a pen and then in our living room. They are in the cage in the afternoon and night. The cage is extra large and so is the ex-pen. They roam around the living room in the morning and evening. Also we pick up our bunnies to put them in the pen or put them back in the cage. Please let me know if we are doing something wrong!!!!
My two lionhead bunnies used to eat loads of hay and eat their pellets and drink loads of water. But the past few weeks they’ve stopped eating their hay and pellets and don’t drink as much water. Their poops are smaller and darker in color recently. They are about 4 1/2 to 5 months old. I’ve never had pets before and I’m so scared I’m going to do something wrong and they won’t survive. They are acting completely normal though, running around with tons of energy. Humping each other because my vet won’t neuter them until they are 6 months old. I have been letting them run around outside in an large enclosed area and they have been eating grass. They love being outside running around more than anything else. They hate when I make them come inside. Please let me know if you have any advice on these issues. I did give them raisins for a while because when I was eating them they would beg me for them and then I saw a video that said raisins are not good for them so I stopped that, will they be okay?

Rabbits require exercise to keep their constant digestive system flowing. G.I. stasis will kill a bun if not exercised properly for 2 hours a day minimum.
Uhm, Hi, I'm from Morocco and rabbits here are still seen as food, and we don't have them in animal shelters, so...is getting a rabbit from a local meat breeder considered ethical? ('cause I'm not going to get them from a pet shop or something like that) I'm vegan and that's why I actually want a herbivore animal as a pet.
meat rabbits are bred and raised for eating so although it is the same species the temperament might be different. but you can still socialize a rabbit that wasnt raised for that. i think as far as ethics that is up to you and whether you consider supporting meat breeders to be ethical. in many places in the world raising animals for meat is essential to peoples survival and if you consider it that way it is good. but its a good idea to do some research into the breeders practices and see if they raise their rabbits without cruelty. even meat rabbits deserve to live well before they are slaughtered. all people who raise animals for food should respect the life of the animal that is feeding them, even if they are not vegan

@@spoingal thanks for answering,idk but I really liked your comment, it's way more informative than what I was asking for. +I just want to say that I mentioned being vegan because I live in a mental dilemma of whether I should adopt a herbivore animal or rescue a carnivore one and kill thousands of animals to keep my companion alive(I'm not a fan of giving them vegan commercial food, especially for cats),which is why I decided to just play it safe on my mental health and get a bunny to share my salad with(and that's why I started learning about pet rabbits and how to take care of them)...but then my ethics came to the surface with the fact that there are no rabbits in shelters here(yes I overthink everything 😁💔)...so the only way to get a furry companion is by buying them from either a meat or a show breeder (and everyone knows that there is nothing ethical about what happens in pet shops) so my only option is meat breeders, and that's why I was like...uhm...local meat breeders who survive out of what they make from breeding and selling those rabbits (I know some people who used to do this) so that I can help the rabbit and those people as well (I know that I'm not changing their lives or anything but you know what I mean). So that's basically why I decided to ask someone about this option. + I definitely agree with you on the "even animals who are bred for food deserve to live a good life before being slaughtered" thing, cuz all lives should be respected. +About the socialising/bonding part, I was thinking of getting a baby rabbit (+3 months obviously) and I don't know if that's going to work, so please tell me if you have any idea about that. +Sorry for the long comment but...idk I left this sort of comments elsewhere and nobody replied so I got a little excited and you seem really educated on the subject and I can't let it go without asking more questions so...yeah😂😂
Hello! I think getting a meat rabbit is great! The so called "meat rabbits" are just XL rabbits and since they are bigger than the small sized pet rabbit they tend to be less fearful and calmer, so they are actually better under this point of view. The only problem I see with meat breeders is that in my country meat rabbit are kept in really poor condition because they're only seen as food. So I feel like buying from meat breeders would still be giving money to abusers. You said that there are pet shops so I suppose that people buy pet rabbits, and unfortunately as long as people buy pet rabbits there will also be abandoned pet rabbits that people don't want anymore. I had to find rabbit associations trough Facebook groups cause shelters are just for cats and dogs in my country. Maybe if you look harder you can find some Facebook groups of rabbit associations and they specialise in saving abandoned rabbits, including many XL rabbits rescued from meat breeders. I hope this is helpful and good luck on your rabbit quest! - About the baby rabbit...well bonding with a baby bunny will be definitely easier, but I feel like all bunnies are quite affectionate. If you get an adult you'll have to be more patient, but in the end the amount of love you receive will be the same.
I try not to beat myself up too hard cause it was like 30 years ago, but mom got me rabbits when I was a kid, and they were indoors for a while, but found out brother was allergic (if he'd stay out of my room dang it!) So made me move them outside (nevermind it was still ok for mom to be a smoker indoors and wreck our lungs but whatever). Of course being outdoors there hardly any interaction so that was sad, but the worst was, a loose dog came over while I was at school and killed them through the cage bottom! Also one time before that a freaking snake got in there, thankfully I saw that before anything bad happened and removed it. You can try all you want, but it's just not a good idea to keep them outside. Something may very well get them, and if we're being honest, how many of us are spending several hours a day with them outdoors?

Even small rabbits is cruel. I have never heard of anyone keeping a jack rabbit as a pet so I don't know about them as pets but I would assume that they need a very large area. How did you even get a jack rabbit, imo it's cruel to even keep them as pets as even free range in a house would be way too small and like being locked up in jail. But I only know about jack rabbits as wild animals though, so not sure it's even legal to have them as pets where I live.

Easy for u to say it's cruel but here the rabbits get run over by cars left and right and cayotes hunt them every night. So... don't know where u live but we r in a congested city, the wild life is almost all gone. The cayotes r starving to death and small animals don't stand a chance.
Aren’t jack rabbits undomesticated? I dont know i dont think it is best to keep as pets.... sadly its life for them a lot of wild rabbits only have like a life span of 2 yrs its the life cycle for them. They arent meant as pets and it can sometimes cause more trouble keeping them 😔
And i dont know about hutch either i would 100% keep my rabbit inside if possible its so much better for them to free roam or at least giving them their own bunny proofed room inside
Have you tried just timothy hay with dried dandelion flower heads in it, and the plain pellets as an aside dish just a few in a shallow ceramic bowl? It's what my vet called 'selective feeding', when they adamantly eat what he called 'muesli' style junk food for bunnies 😂 You must never suddenly switch their diets as they have very sensitive stomachs, but gradually switch the balance over, introducing more of the plain pellets as each day goes by, without them noticing too much of a change, it should work over a few weeks.
It's the operation a vet does, so they stop reproducing (having babies). It also helps to stop them wanting to 'scent mark' everywhere. A positive side effect of having them 'done', as we sometimes call it.
We bought a indoor hutch for our bunny, and he's chewing on the boards, the small animal bitter spray not working, any suggestions would be appreciated....
Hutches aren't that great if they are in them all of the time. Lagomorph's (rabbit's) hind legs are designed to stretch, and run around. Is your one very large? That might be why he's chewing at it, to get let out? Real untreated twigs in plentiful quantities, every day and always accessible to them, should save the boards and keep their perpetually growing teeth pared down. Hutches to rabbits, if not ma-hoos-sive ones, would be like us in a telephone booth, all day every day, with a potty in the corner! 😂 Also, hutches if you have them fast become just *their* territory. I've seen so many people wonder why when they reach into a hutch, they get attacked by bunny... To them it's like if we had an intruder trying to come into our house and start moving all our stuff around. Rabbits are very much creatures of habit. Sprays are so unnatural, I didn't know they even made such things. One of my bunnies used to hate the smell of lemon balm plants. One used to try eat it, but this guy would run a mile from it if I rubbed the leaves showed them to him!
what would you prefer for a bunny that chooses a bottle over bowl? i put a bowl of water but he just puts hay in it lol i do notice him drinking but its absolutetly not enough. hes like my best buddy and want nothing to happen to him.. i also notice he eats hay and pellets but not very much of either. it kind of bugs me, he was given to me by a loving person but his food habits are messed. he thankfully love veggies but trying to wean him on to them.
I’ve been struggling giving my bun a butt bath because the fur under her tail is extremely hard and matted and I feel bad for her that When I work on a sensitive area for more than 5-10 minutes

You seem to know your stuff but your litter box needs to be done better I also recommend closed lid litter boxes it keeps the mess and smell contained a lot better plus they like the privacy more Plus I also recommend KMS Hayloft they grow their hay fresh on their farm and their pelletes are freshly manufactured there as well I love getting my hay and pelletes from them
A lot of Rabbits get scared from covered litter boxes because they have doors that are slippery and hard to grip, they might also feel like they've been trapped inside as the door closes behind them. It is less messy but I had a horrible experience with a covered litter box with the door on it, she somehow got her head trapped in it but luckily I was in the room and managed to free her. I can only imagine what might've happened if I wasn't in the room What about her litter box isn't done correctly out of curiosity? It looks perfectly fine to me, it's a decent size, has litter to absorb and is filled with hay
As mentioned in other comments, some rabbits will bathe themselves in their water bowls. We've caught our Albino Mini Rex wetting her front paws before eating her bowl of pellets. My Netherlop will just flop into his water bowl without a care.
Thats the only one that dosent have soy hulls in it !!but only the briwn bag the other ones even buy the same brand have soy hulls in them . Oxbow dosent even have baby bunnny pellets that dont have soy hulls in them . Well at least in the okanogan of canada west coast . is it alright my bunnys only 6 week old bit i didnt want to feed him soy bean hulls wich is not a natural part of any bunnies diet . i put out a quarter cup its bin 4 days and he eats them but still hasent finished the first 1/4cup he eats loads if hey and we grow dandelions and clover in our front grass instaed of jist grass as the flowers are good for bees .so 4 years of growing them now the bees need to share with our bunny . hes free roming in our lovingroom . we baby gated the entrance as the rest of the house is not bunny proof . weve had 6 kids so babying proofing were good at. Do bunnys know theyre herbavours ?? My bunny comes running every time im eating meat amd he trys to get to my plate . and when im not giveing him any hell come kiss me Like hes trying to get the taste off my lips!! Hes so smart !!

His recommendation was to try, as you've very kindly advised, to replicate what they would eat in the wild. Lettuce, even those romaine lettuce, and some other things some might give their rabbits, are far too high in water content, but lettuce is notorious for digestive problems in rabbits. The majority of gut problem rabbits he sees, their humans always mention they give them lettuce.
He said, in the wild, they would eat grass mainly, and safe herbs, definitely twigs (like hazel wood, willow, apple, etc., for keeping their perpetually growing teeth from overgrowing or developing spurs, and of course, their favourite dandelion leaves. Those can be grown in pots indoors, by the way, as can parsley, which is also a favourite too. Carrots have too much sugar content, so that's a bit of a myth too.
Basically he recommended *99% hay* + water, with the greens but not too much, and you're right, always make sure they have access to *fresh* water.
Over the years I've had many rescue lagomorphs from shelters, so yes, "adopt don't shop" as the bunny motto goes! My guys have always lived with the freedom to roam the entire house, danger-proofed like they are toddlers, no cables exposed to chew through. I use wooden slats and chicken wire to make a kind of door to hang on the other side of the doorframe as an extra door that I can close while leaving the solid door open, if for example there is a room I don't want them to have access to. They can still see you, but it keeps them safe if there are things they could hurt themselves on in there.
Always remember their bones are far more fragile than a cats, so they mustn't fall from heights that could break their delicate bone structure. Smooth flooring can be tricky for them to grasp which will limit how they run, they slide too much, usually.
Their skin is incredibly delicate, it 'tents', as my vet called it and that hurts and stays tender like damaged skin, if you were to comb them and tug on it in the slightest, so softish normal brush like a pure bristle hairbrush, is far kinder.
Twigs and hay diet, really are their best chance at not having dental problems. Since I found that vet years ago, my bunny's teethe have never had any problems, thankfully.
Litter training is easy. If you have a large litter tray, like one of those boxes that are about 15cm high at the sides, and about 50cm wide x 60 or 70cm long, the sort that some use under their beds for storage. Fill that with the hay they'll eat, timothy hay is best, especially with dandelion flower heads dried in it, they love looking for those. You should find that they poop/pee in one main corner or end of it, and keep the other end clean as a whistle for the hay they eat.
Bunnies do like to poop where they eat but that's why the box/tray has to be nice and long, so they don't contaminate their eating hay end.
It also helps you to see how often they go to have a nom (eat) also you can see quite easily that they are eating regularly 🤗
Ok im glad I got to know why one of my rabbits runs away every time we approach her. I knew it had to do something with constantly picking her up, since i have little siblings they literally ask to hold the rabbits EVERYDAY and more than twice a day, I always say no when my mom isn't home but they will always call her and she will always say yes. Hello! I am so glad I found your channel. I have had two rabbits before the last one passed away in March and I have missed them so much. They both died as senior citizens. Today I rescued to abuse case bunnies around 10 weeks old. I have never had bunnies before. So I need help with litter box training. Thank you for making these videos. They are so helpful. People really misunderstand them. My two new bunnies are still scared of me but have already started doing binkies and enjoying their new enclosures. They are Holland lops in a dark brown and tan color. So sweet!

A neighbor across the street has two huge bunnies or rabbits in an 8x8 cage for the past two years now. It disturbs me, they just sit there all day doing nothing. Seems mean to me. I think any wold animal kept as pets is wrong, unless there's an issue with the animal where it won't survive out in the wild on its own. This video popped up probably because I'm currently trying to research how to keep bunnies from eating all my flowers in the yard. Last year I didn't have alot of flowers and I noticed a big bunnie would sit in the lawn and eat all the clover, this year I don't have any clover since I sprayed for weeds and the lawn is looking great. I planted a nice wild flower garden that is growing great and also planted a bunch of wave pentunias all around the yard. Few weeks ago I noticed it looked like a mother bunnie with a tiny little baby bunnie, the thing is so cute, it runs so quick all over the place it's comical. But now I noticed the baby is hanging out in its own, found it camped out in the wild flower garden and tons of half eaten flowers. I had to put up a short fence around the garden out of chicken wire to keep it out and it seems to be working. I also mix hot sauce and water and spray it all over my pentunias and the bunnies seem to stay away from them now. The bunnies are still around, see them all the time. I find there waste in piles in the lawn and noticed crabgrass growing there, they must be eating weeds and spreading the seeds all over my lawn. Bunnies are cute but can be a menace.

@@scottmb99 only requires one or two sprays. Be mindful of that. And I'd suggest doing it outside or in well ventilated area as well as putting a towel on the floor because the dead fleas will fall off almost immediately. It may require another spray in a few days if eggs hatch. Just play it day by day but it killed all fleas with one session. Also treat any other pets you may have at the same time. My cat brought fleas in from outdoors. And wash all bedding and soft material in area. And sweep or vacuum.

I have a Flemish giant. She just runs around the house, she doesn't even have a cage. She doesn't chew on anything but her stuff. With 1 exception. I have to keep my shoes put up. She is like a dog when it comes to chewing up shoes.
Its really interesting to see the different views in different nations about keeping bunnies.
Here in Germany keeping bunnies as natural as possible is pretty popular. That means outside in a save area that is as big as possible, no pellets and never only one Bunny. I personally don't keep them to be a big part of our family but because I want to care for them and watch them.
But I guess German weather is simply better suited for bunnies.

I have always made sure my bunnies didn't get wet until today. I got 12 week old Holland lops today. Both of them washed their feet in the water just like a raccoon. I have never seen any do that before.
I agree with you keeping rabbits outside is a lot more dangerous, than having bunnies inside. But as you can Bunnyprove a home you can Bunnyprove an outside encloser. For that, you not only have to take care that your bunny can not escape their home. You have to make sure that predators can not get inside either. Also, I do agree not using a cage even for outside bunnies, instead, a garden shed that can be cooled in the summer and slightly heated in the winter is a must (You have to be able to walk around in the shed) Also, it's a must because of illnesses and insects to make sure the outside enclosure gets cleaned thoroughly every day. To bond with your bunny in the outside enclosure you have to spend a lot of time with your bunny outside, even in the winter. I had 6 Bunnys from 6 Bunnys 5 died because of old age and one I had to put down becouse of brain cancer. So I highly recommend if you want to keep your bunnies outside get information first on how to bunny and predator prove an outside enclosure.
Yes a lot of people don't like sheds but I think they can be just fine if you spend a lot of time with them. My preference is free roaming though

cornstarch is essential for having rabbit imo because not only can you use it for cleaning them but it makes a decent coagulant in an emergency like if you have an accident trimming the nails. be careful with kale and other cruciferous vegetables tho as some rabbits get gas from them which can lead to GI stasis if left for too long. cilantro is great though!
i struggle getting jojo to exercise. when he is out of his pen he immediately comes to me and glues himself to me for hours and hours without getting up. he only wants to snuggle!
I'm currently looking for a vet to spay my female rabbit, tho it's quite a difficult task at the place where I live (I'm from Czechia), as most vets here refuse to spay female rabbits unless it's necessary for them - therefore no prevention spays.. 🙁
My daughter has left us her rabbit. We never put her in a cage. During the night time she goes into our daughters room and has free roam. When we are home she gets free roam of her bedroom, the hallway and living room. We never let her go in the kitchen, bathroom or other bedrooms. She is very happy with that arrangement. Its funny because if our Rabbit is in her room and hears me coming into the living room, she rushes out to see me. I am the only one she does that with. When my daughter does come home from her work home she gets a little upset that her rabbit does not have much to do with her anymore.

Hi there I had a question about my rabbit. He's somewhat deaf and I was wondering if he needs more attention then hearing rabbits. I'm worried that he might think I don't talk to him. I've taught him a few hand signals which he responds too. He can hear loud sounds like when the dogs bark but not much else. I've tried clapping my hands and he doesn't react to that at all.

So we have a cage for my two bunnies, they are 2 months old. We do let them out in a pen and then in our living room. They are in the cage in the afternoon and night. The cage is extra large and so is the ex-pen. They roam around the living room in the morning and evening. Also we pick up our bunnies to put them in the pen or put them back in the cage. Please let me know if we are doing something wrong!!!!

My two lionhead bunnies used to eat loads of hay and eat their pellets and drink loads of water. But the past few weeks they’ve stopped eating their hay and pellets and don’t drink as much water. Their poops are smaller and darker in color recently. They are about 4 1/2 to 5 months old. I’ve never had pets before and I’m so scared I’m going to do something wrong and they won’t survive. They are acting completely normal though, running around with tons of energy. Humping each other because my vet won’t neuter them until they are 6 months old. I have been letting them run around outside in an large enclosed area and they have been eating grass. They love being outside running around more than anything else. They hate when I make them come inside. Please let me know if you have any advice on these issues. I did give them raisins for a while because when I was eating them they would beg me for them and then I saw a video that said raisins are not good for them so I stopped that, will they be okay?

Rabbits require exercise to keep their constant digestive system flowing. G.I. stasis will kill a bun if not exercised properly for 2 hours a day minimum.
Uhm, Hi, I'm from Morocco and rabbits here are still seen as food, and we don't have them in animal shelters, so...is getting a rabbit from a local meat breeder considered ethical? ('cause I'm not going to get them from a pet shop or something like that)
I'm vegan and that's why I actually want a herbivore animal as a pet.
I'd say thats a better idea because that's their income so they're more likely to treat them and breed them better then a pet shop will
meat rabbits are bred and raised for eating so although it is the same species the temperament might be different. but you can still socialize a rabbit that wasnt raised for that. i think as far as ethics that is up to you and whether you consider supporting meat breeders to be ethical. in many places in the world raising animals for meat is essential to peoples survival and if you consider it that way it is good. but its a good idea to do some research into the breeders practices and see if they raise their rabbits without cruelty. even meat rabbits deserve to live well before they are slaughtered. all people who raise animals for food should respect the life of the animal that is feeding them, even if they are not vegan

+I just want to say that I mentioned being vegan because I live in a mental dilemma of whether I should adopt a herbivore animal or rescue a carnivore one and kill thousands of animals to keep my companion alive(I'm not a fan of giving them vegan commercial food, especially for cats),which is why I decided to just play it safe on my mental health and get a bunny to share my salad with(and that's why I started learning about pet rabbits and how to take care of them)...but then my ethics came to the surface with the fact that there are no rabbits in shelters here(yes I overthink everything 😁💔)...so the only way to get a furry companion is by buying them from either a meat or a show breeder (and everyone knows that there is nothing ethical about what happens in pet shops) so my only option is meat breeders, and that's why I was like...uhm...local meat breeders who survive out of what they make from breeding and selling those rabbits (I know some people who used to do this) so that I can help the rabbit and those people as well (I know that I'm not changing their lives or anything but you know what I mean). So that's basically why I decided to ask someone about this option.
+ I definitely agree with you on the "even animals who are bred for food deserve to live a good life before being slaughtered" thing, cuz all lives should be respected.
+About the socialising/bonding part, I was thinking of getting a baby rabbit (+3 months obviously) and I don't know if that's going to work, so please tell me if you have any idea about that.

Hello! I think getting a meat rabbit is great! The so called "meat rabbits" are just XL rabbits and since they are bigger than the small sized pet rabbit they tend to be less fearful and calmer, so they are actually better under this point of view. The only problem I see with meat breeders is that in my country meat rabbit are kept in really poor condition because they're only seen as food. So I feel like buying from meat breeders would still be giving money to abusers. You said that there are pet shops so I suppose that people buy pet rabbits, and unfortunately as long as people buy pet rabbits there will also be abandoned pet rabbits that people don't want anymore. I had to find rabbit associations trough Facebook groups cause shelters are just for cats and dogs in my country. Maybe if you look harder you can find some Facebook groups of rabbit associations and they specialise in saving abandoned rabbits, including many XL rabbits rescued from meat breeders. I hope this is helpful and good luck on your rabbit quest!
- About the baby rabbit...well bonding with a baby bunny will be definitely easier, but I feel like all bunnies are quite affectionate. If you get an adult you'll have to be more patient, but in the end the amount of love you receive will be the same.

I try not to beat myself up too hard cause it was like 30 years ago, but mom got me rabbits when I was a kid, and they were indoors for a while, but found out brother was allergic (if he'd stay out of my room dang it!) So made me move them outside (nevermind it was still ok for mom to be a smoker indoors and wreck our lungs but whatever). Of course being outdoors there hardly any interaction so that was sad, but the worst was, a loose dog came over while I was at school and killed them through the cage bottom! Also one time before that a freaking snake got in there, thankfully I saw that before anything bad happened and removed it. You can try all you want, but it's just not a good idea to keep them outside. Something may very well get them, and if we're being honest, how many of us are spending several hours a day with them outdoors?
I've often heard it's bad for a rabbit to be on its back, others insist it's not true or their rabbit is different. Can you clear this up?

I would say only keep a rabbit in a hutch is cruel as they're way too small.
Even small rabbits is cruel. I have never heard of anyone keeping a jack rabbit as a pet so I don't know about them as pets but I would assume that they need a very large area. How did you even get a jack rabbit, imo it's cruel to even keep them as pets as even free range in a house would be way too small and like being locked up in jail. But I only know about jack rabbits as wild animals though, so not sure it's even legal to have them as pets where I live.

Easy for u to say it's cruel but here the rabbits get run over by cars left and right and cayotes hunt them every night. So... don't know where u live but we r in a congested city, the wild life is almost all gone. The cayotes r starving to death and small animals don't stand a chance.
Aren’t jack rabbits undomesticated? I dont know i dont think it is best to keep as pets.... sadly its life for them a lot of wild rabbits only have like a life span of 2 yrs its the life cycle for them.

Have you tried just timothy hay with dried dandelion flower heads in it, and the plain pellets as an aside dish just a few in a shallow ceramic bowl? It's what my vet called 'selective feeding', when they adamantly eat what he called 'muesli' style junk food for bunnies 😂 You must never suddenly switch their diets as they have very sensitive stomachs, but gradually switch the balance over, introducing more of the plain pellets as each day goes by, without them noticing too much of a change, it should work over a few weeks.
Sorry to ask but what does spayed and neautered mean?
It's the operation a vet does, so they stop reproducing (having babies). It also helps to stop them wanting to 'scent mark' everywhere. A positive side effect of having them 'done', as we sometimes call it.
We bought a indoor hutch for our bunny, and he's chewing on the boards, the small animal bitter spray not working, any suggestions would be appreciated....
Hutches aren't that great if they are in them all of the time. Lagomorph's (rabbit's) hind legs are designed to stretch, and run around. Is your one very large? That might be why he's chewing at it, to get let out?
Real untreated twigs in plentiful quantities, every day and always accessible to them, should save the boards and keep their perpetually growing teeth pared down. Hutches to rabbits, if not ma-hoos-sive ones, would be like us in a telephone booth, all day every day, with a potty in the corner! 😂 Also, hutches if you have them fast become just *their* territory. I've seen so many people wonder why when they reach into a hutch, they get attacked by bunny... To them it's like if we had an intruder trying to come into our house and start moving all our stuff around. Rabbits are very much creatures of habit. Sprays are so unnatural, I didn't know they even made such things. One of my bunnies used to hate the smell of lemon balm plants. One used to try eat it, but this guy would run a mile from it if I rubbed the leaves showed them to him!

what would you prefer for a bunny that chooses a bottle over bowl? i put a bowl of water but he just puts hay in it lol i do notice him drinking but its absolutetly not enough. hes like my best buddy and want nothing to happen to him.. i also notice he eats hay and pellets but not very much of either. it kind of bugs me, he was given to me by a loving person but his food habits are messed. he thankfully love veggies but trying to wean him on to them.

You seem to know your stuff but your litter box needs to be done better I also recommend closed lid litter boxes it keeps the mess and smell contained a lot better plus they like the privacy more
Plus I also recommend KMS Hayloft they grow their hay fresh on their farm and their pelletes are freshly manufactured there as well I love getting my hay and pelletes from them
A lot of Rabbits get scared from covered litter boxes because they have doors that are slippery and hard to grip, they might also feel like they've been trapped inside as the door closes behind them. It is less messy but I had a horrible experience with a covered litter box with the door on it, she somehow got her head trapped in it but luckily I was in the room and managed to free her. I can only imagine what might've happened if I wasn't in the room
What about her litter box isn't done correctly out of curiosity? It looks perfectly fine to me, it's a decent size, has litter to absorb and is filled with hay

As mentioned in other comments, some rabbits will bathe themselves in their water bowls. We've caught our Albino Mini Rex wetting her front paws before eating her bowl of pellets. My Netherlop will just flop into his water bowl without a care.

Well at least in the okanogan of canada west coast . is it alright my bunnys only 6 week old bit i didnt want to feed him soy bean hulls wich is not a natural part of any bunnies diet . i put out a quarter cup its bin 4 days and he eats them but still hasent finished the first 1/4cup he eats loads if hey and we grow dandelions and clover in our front grass instaed of jist grass as the flowers are good for bees .so 4 years of growing them now the bees need to share with our bunny . hes free roming in our lovingroom . we baby gated the entrance as the rest of the house is not bunny proof . weve had 6 kids so babying proofing were good at. Do bunnys know theyre herbavours ?? My bunny comes running every time im eating meat amd he trys to get to my plate . and when im not giveing him any hell come kiss me
