    At the end to retrieve the cambium saver you can attach your throwline to the rope to get a controlled descend of your cambium saver.
    loves your videos by the way =)

      +Klaus Knudsen Hey Klaus ...yes it is a good way to protect the cambium saver, but I rarely use the method, partly because the surface mostly is soft and if there is a chance of hitting something hard, I use a cambiumsaver with steel rings instead of aluminum. Thanks for your response!

    My throw line is still on the wheel, i take the end, put thtough big ring, tie to throw bag, throw over branch, then through small ring, attatch bay and pull.

    • @SorenSatellit
      @SorenSatellit  7 месяцев назад

      Thanks for the great input Craig! I have also learned that version but I have often been entangled in situations where I had to separate the throw bag/throw line from the the friction saver as the standing part also had to go up the tree because the throwline was in unwanted complication with branches. But I'm also not a throw bag sniper.

    Will rain hurt it? Can I leave it outside in the rain?

    • @SorenSatellit
      @SorenSatellit  3 года назад +1

      Hi Quinn! Friction savers is usually made for polyester webbing, so rain is no problem! I also let it hang in the tree if the task extends over several days. When I pull the rope down I attach a thin string to the loose end of the rope ... and use it to put the rope up in the tree the next day. If there should be something that polyester can not handle then it should be massive amounts of UV light for a long time (months I would think). But it is usually notches in the webbing or worn/notches rings that make it necessary to change a cambium saver. I usually replace mine every two years. Stay safe!

    • @SorenSatellit

    Very interesting but I still think it's better to have rope friction than metal friction.
    All climbing ropes, even static climbing ropes have a dynamic flexibility (elongation) so they can break a fall.
    Metal and carabiners don't have that flexibility and will break quicker when they hit each other.

    • @SorenSatellit
      @SorenSatellit  5 лет назад +4

      Thanks Arnold! There are many right ways to do it and ways you personally prefer. But the cambium savers job is to protect the tree's cambium (during pruning tasks) and to protect the rope for wear (all jobs). The breaking strength of cambium saver and rope is almost the same (23-26kn) ... it requires a weight of over 200 kg to fall more than 10 meters before anyone needs to worry. I also choke the rope around the tree during slow ascent and descent (tree felling jobs), but if I have to work more from a point in the tree, then I don´t want to expose the rope to unnecessary wear and therefore I use cambium / friction saver. Climb safe!

    • @arnoldmeulen
      @arnoldmeulen 5 лет назад

      Thanks for the reply.
      It's true about the weight and it's good to protect the tree.
      Almost every friction isn't good, metal on a rope isn't good either:

    Soren that was the best showing yet, my question on retrieval the knot goes through one ring why does it catch other ring? Does it ever go through and leave friction saver up there, sorry for dumb question your videos are the best. Thanks.

    • @SorenSatellit
      @SorenSatellit  7 лет назад

      Thanks Rudy! The one who doesn't ask is stupid all the life!" The friction saver (or cambium saver) avoids wear on rope and bark. At the same time, the rope slides easier because the resistance (friction) is much smaller on the smooth rings than if the rope should slide over a branch.

    • @samsmith9992
      @samsmith9992 6 лет назад +2

      One of the rings is a larger diameter then the other so the knot passes through the large one but catches on the smaller

    Stage 5 cannot be done unless attached small ring of saver then throwing bag at step 1. Aaahh I see

    • @SorenSatellit
      @SorenSatellit  5 лет назад +1

      Yes, you can also start by leading the throwline through the big ring before you throw the bag. But it will often worsen your throw. Therefore, I often pull the loose end of the throwline to through the big ring afterwards.

    hey, guys, I'm new to this but How would connect the free hanging rope to something?
    like... when you want to climb up the rope if one end of the rope is not connected to anything, the rope would just pull through the friction saver.
    this prob a stupid question but what do you attach the end of the rope to. I've searched and searched and I can't figure it out...

    • @JustJimJr
      @JustJimJr 5 лет назад +1

      Attached to trunk of the tree or another low point for a single rope climb or an attached Blake's or presick

    • @SorenSatellit
      @SorenSatellit  5 лет назад +3

      Hi, montgomery mchargue! You have to decide if you want to climb on Single Rope (SRT) or Double Rope (DRT) ... both systems require only 1 rope. Search for movies about "Double Rope Technique tree climbing" (DRT) or "Single Rope Technique tree climbing" (SRT). The difference, broadly speaking, is that SRT is with stationary rope/faster/hard and affects the anchor point in the tree twice your weight wenn it's tied to the base of the tree. DRT is with moving rope/slower/less hard and affects the anchor point with your weight. In order to change something that already was good enough, you can also find new movies where DRT is called MRS (Movable Rope System) and SRT is now called SRS (Stationary Rope Systems).

    Very nice. Do you do work with srt or installing safety/emergency/access lines? I’m trying To come up with an efficient system that will get me into the tree quickly (big shot/cannon) with srt and then transfer to my drt while I work, leaving a safety line ready to go for aerial rescue if I have an accident. I’ve got the equipment but I’ve yet to work out a good efficient way of getting it done.
