I was on a job outside of Houston, and found a brick and mortar game store called Game Over. It was in a kinda swanky shopping center with salons, a spa, gym, clothing shops that's too out the way for any riff raff. The store? Just retro games, consoles and accessories neatly stocked. No collectibles or stupid trinkets, just games. I got myself a nice refurbished 360 controller, and the nice gent just rung my purchase. No upselling or any corporate nonsense from him,, it felt surreal.

I love that store. They used to have collectibles and even a museum. They were in a larger store a few doors down then moved. Haven’t visited the smaller store yet but love Game over. They are a small chain run outta Austin. There are actually 3 Houston locations. I have been to all 3.

It's the PROFIT over PEOPLE capitalism at it's finest! Notice how when republicans are in power they make tax cuts that help companies get richer while we little people suffer! Gamestop only cares about making their bottom dollar and they'll throw everyone under the bus to do so! You should sue Gamestop for defamation and how they are continuing to do it! I'm sure they have tired to go after you for defamation which is you were telling your truth and they just didn't like it! When they make up lies like you are sleeping in the back or committing fraud that's defamatory rhetoric! They want to make you look bad so they don't look bad! Gamestop is a bad company and people know it and I think as the video game market changes Gamestop will become irrelevant!

@@Magnarmis the company I started at a bit over a year ago had said that. They've been great for someone that doesn't miss work ever.
A few weeks ago I left work with a fever. Missed 33 hours in a week. Got 9 hours of sick pay. Asked why... And they require 24 hours of missed time before sick pay kicks in.
4 raises in a year ( about 20% pay total) and $2k of bonuses don't make up for fudgetarded policy. I'm out and applying elsewhere. Raises have been great but still aren't enough to put someone out of paycheck to paycheck territory. That messed my finances up so hard my utility company is demanding back the deposit they returned a decade ago.

What Zombie describes here is serious violations of both OSHA, but the FLSA. They're not allowed to discriminate based on physical or mental disability, and they're legally required to accommodate those employees with disabilities. Nor can they legally fire a person for an injury on the job, nor are they legally allowed to fire someone for disabilities. Nor can they dictate what an employee does outside the store, including doing youtube channels and content creation. Everything described here is illegal on the part of Gamestop's actions and had I been in Zombie's shoes when this all went down I'd have sued them into the ground.

@@iggyboo Well, actually, there are several law firms that handle this sort of thing, and proving it is easier than you might think. That's what discovery is for, sifting through emails, listening to recorded phone calls, subpoenaing witnesses. If it is their standard that they don't want to hire people with x disability, you can bet there's an internal memo somewhere, an email record of some sort, confirming it.

I couldnt handle that, plus managers at kaiser permente love to screw you over because they seriously get a 15k bonus each year if they can stay under budget, and they tell you not to call in sick and not to claim injury so they can get award at the end of the year for being injury free, another bonus for them. Them promising a full time position with benefits is a lie, they will keep you on call /per diem, they will give you full time hours for years but without benefits, this contributes to staying under budget so they can get that bonus. smh

I worked for gamestop years ago. The place was a wet dumpster fire. Between the intense pressure to upsell stupid magazine subscriptions and pre-orders, and the complete inability of management to understand their customer base. My store manager would just have random freakouts in front of customers (which was embarrassing) that looking back on it now, he was probably under a soul crushing amount of pressure from upper management. I ended up quitting because I was working two jobs and I got hired at a company that paid me well enough to not work two jobs, and it's not like it was enjoyable. So I quit on the spot and have never set foot in that store again. I was just out of high-school then.
I'm honestly amazed gamestop still exists considering they've been run so astoundingly poorly for, fuck, decades now.

When I was hired at Game Stop, they delayed my hire date with no explanation why at the time. Then I realized it was because I mentioned my wife and I were about to have our first kid. They delayed it so it would be 2 weeks from the 90 days I would need to be working there to qualify for paternity leave. It was confirmed by my SM that was leaving soon after I started. The only time worse than that is when they fired a different SM, leaving me, a ASM, and my 3rd keyholder with no instructions on how to handle scheduling (SMs are salary, us ASM and 3rd Keys were hourly). The only call I got from the District Manager asking why we were so far over payroll. I laid into him.

The manager at my store acknowledged he’d heard of you, but hadn’t seen videos. But yeah...this was back after some of your store closing predictions and the Covid mess in the beginning. But I’m the longest standing customer they have, I was there on their grand opening in October 08. Surprised they’ve stayed open, I’m in a small town, but they get best numbers in all stores for hundreds of miles around, tho there is only a couple left within 2 hours of here, so... but they’ve had renovations and upgrading done to store. My buddy is manager, he took over last year after about 6 years there be at he previous manager who opened the store finally moved to take over a different one. So I’ve known ever employee they’ve ever had, I’ve spent more money than any other customer...I’m a physical buyer, always will be. So they tell me much that otherwise doesn’t get out to most people. They know I don’t run around saying stuff to get them in trouble. But, unlike a lot of stores, I like mine and they’ve always taken care of me. The previous manager did a lot of stuff for me...getting me console preorders just days before launch and such, back for PS4/XBO era.
And yes, again...they know about you. Gamestop absolutely does...the Execs.

I have a brother with a neurological disorder and that sounds very par for the course. I am not surprised, one bit, Gamestop (or big companies in general) would give to Autism speaks, but won't allow an autistic person to work to earn their keep.
I am always skeptical of big companies who give to charitable organizations and wonder if they're just doing it for good PR or if they're doing it because they legit care (I highly doubt it's the latter).

I had a guy who worked under me years ago who was on the spectrum. I put him in a position that he was comfortable with. He did an amazing job. He was never late never called in sick or complained about anything. I knew he would not adjust well to change so I made sure he was paid the top of the scale for that position. It was sad to know that he was so good of an employee but wouldn't be able to really move up due to his disability.

I used to be a key holder, sga, and we were so short staffed because we lost our manager and assistant manager. One day during this time between managers, the only other sga called out sick so I called my district manager to ask if someone could come to close the store and he told me that no one else could come in so I had to stay the whole day with only one G.A coming in at the end of the night. Sometimes I would have to eat in front of customers because I couldnt close the store to take a lunch. I worked at GameStop on and off for 5 years. I will always have some fond memories but there were days were it was absolutely a horror show.

Single. Word." I said im sorry and left. I honestly felt bad.

Man, the autism statement hit home. When I worked at GameStop in 2019-2020, we had a guy with autism employed. They kept taking him off the schedule because he was slower at doing some things but told him to keep calling in to check the schedule. He wasn’t making enough money so he ended up coming in to sell his games and his consoles, etc. back to the store.

I don't know if you remember but I think it was in 2015 there was a woman who got murdered at a Gamestop in Houston! Hey had NO cameras in the area where she was killed the cameras they did have only showed them entering! Gamestop isn't even a safe environment as they don't care about your safety! Your employer should protect you while you are working for them! Then again as I have said with Gamestop it's profit over people! To this day they still haven't solved this murder!! They do believe it was someone she knew and possible a customer of the store but other than that there is no information as the perps knew the store quite well!

people and literally think everyones disposable. i feel so bad for the timeframe she got fired and she did everything she could for both of her teams.

I have severe, chronic, debilitating migraines with a host of bizarre stroke like symptoms. As soon as marijuana became legal, my doc put me on it (because I'd tried everything else) and it has been a miracle. One of the onset symptoms of a migraine is usually I dump 50 IQ points or so. My supervisor is so cool they will actually send me out to smoke if I don't stay on top of it. A couple of puffs and I'm pretty much back on all cylinders. If I lose that or have to drug test at any point in the future- I'm unemployable and will have to get on disability instead. I SOOOO identify with those jackasses not being tolerant of disabled people. Evil craphounds.
