Lyrics:
These floods of you are unforgiving
Pushing past me spilling through the banks
And I fall
Faster than light and faster than time
That's how memory works
At least in the dark where I'm searching for meaning
When I'm just searching for something
I want out
Out of every awkward day
Out of every tongue tied loss
I want out
Out of the burdening night sweats
Out of the rising seas of blood
Lost in you like Saturday nights
Searching the streets with bedroom eyes
Just dying to be saved
Run on girl
Run on
#converge #janedoe
I always interpreted the fade out ending as a representation of the world passing you by despite all of the rage and sadness you still carry. It just leads nowhere.
I love that ending.... it's almost like a dream... or waking up from a terrible nightmare, where the lasting sound of that nightmare lingers in your head far into your waking.
Huh wow, I saw you on the comment section of a todd in the shadows video literally yesterday. It's a small world
It’s like falling asleep is exiting the nightmare that is this life. Truly a dream, as it’s not a reality. The nightmare never ends.
It's like the last sound of a brilliant album lingers in your head

@@ryleighs9575 Kenny G straight up stole from converge 😤
@@walterworrall I keep telling people and they just look at me weird.
Lol imagine thinking Converge was metalcore
@@Heavypinkcore yeah, there are some rubes out there.
The intro riff could move mountains. So fucking crushing.
The crushing titanic noise of the last few minutes is some of the most effective sound as yet recorded
This song is just raw emotional expression, fantastic.
This song is the ending of a life. To feel the emotional range as one decides to finally end it. That’s what Jane Doe is. The death of one’s self. In its purest form.
8:57 I CAN DIE FOR THIS PIECE....THIS IS MY HEAVEN
Saw them live in Milan, didn't know them before. Jane Doe was the last song. During the ending Bannon was standing at the edge of the stage, arms opened, eyes closed, lights on him and a massive wall of sound. At the end of the song, I swear, there was absolute silence for a good 20 seconds. And I was crying like a fuckin baby.
Same thing happened to me when I witnessed the end of Deafheaven's Dream House live, because I was there with the love of my life, and I got her into the band. Heavy music can be so powerful.
Goosebumps man
Sure, what else. This song and that ending is beyond every possible words.
I just saw them a year ago when they came with Meshuggah, but unfortunately they didn't play this. Their set was actually kind of mild.
I normally really hate fade outs, but something about this one works really well.
For me, the fade out signals the complete loss of hope. There's this tone shift from the preceding climax of despair, where the pitch raises, making you think there may be a way out. But it is followed by a stoic, despondent response, and the fact it keeps repeating this back and forth between hope and despair while fading out shows this sense of excruciating loss is never going away. Such a tragic song that is all too relatable for anyone whoo has truly loved and lost, a group I now find myself apart of.
@@Umbra-qk6ut I see it as acceptance or someone learning to finally let go of the emotions that torment them and attempt to move on. Btw sorry for your loss.
@@Umbra-qk6ut I see it as being more positive
@@Umbra-qk6ut I see it as the curtain closing on the narrator as he is left utterly, absolutely alone, succumbing to despair and madness over the loss of the girl he once loved. The song ends on a tense, rising crescendo with no resolution -- because there is none to be had.
There is no catharsis, only ruin...
A less poetic explanation than above could be that a good fade out changes the way the continuity of the song feels. It gives the impression that the song could go on forever and you're simply witnessing a small part of a bigger world.
Thank you, gentlemen. You changed not only my taste in music but my perspective on art entirely. You grew me, and I will be grateful all of my days.
7:05 Best moment of the entire album, and perhaps of the entire band's career.

@@SonicWavePassengerMusic Live version is fucking incredible as is all of Converge's music.

This album is such a masterpiece, one of the best Metal Album of all time, for me!
This album has the concept of “how heavy and hard can a song be" and bring that concept to its absolute max potential. Phenomenal album.

This is definitely the greatest metal, metalcore album or whatever you call it ever.

goddamn i love this album, will listen to it until the day i die
Pure art.
Most painful song I've ever listened to
This track, anything off of Angels of Distress by Shape of Despair, and Pimea by Moonsorrow hold this "honor" for me.
I just heard this album for the first time, and I'm blown away. It is just perfection.
One of the best hardcore songs ever
Exhausted rage, pointless brutality, a longing for quiet and peace but your mind will give you none. It takes the rest of your life to die.
So well put. I am going through this now. I was once so proud and confident, even in the face of loss... now so dejected and numb to the pain, stripped of pride, resigned to my fate...
This is it, the best description
Great stuff, and not because some hipster said so. This album from front to back is an experience without the pretense of "dude its like a concept album and like will like blow your mind and change your life"
At first I didnt get it, it sounded like noise, then I sat down and something clicked, it all made sense and it was amazing and still is.
The songs themselves are beautifully written. Once you realize what he saying, it really clicks.
noise? hipster? what? where did you get that
Late af to this band but this song is mindblowing. Looking forward to diving into their music.
this will forever be my favorite song
Sometimes a fade out can be disappointing, but in this case it was the most genius way to close the album
The buildup from 7:05 and then the scream at 8:58 is like peak music stuff right there I mean tbh the whole album is a buildup for that moment but goddamn

I am a long-time Dillinger Escape Plan loyalist, and I always had a hard time enjoying Converge. After listening to this album through again, I am willing to concede that this album is equal to Calculating Infinity in terms of songwriting craft.
I believe it's above calculating infinity... mostly due to the raw emotion of this album
For me, it’s either this or We Are the Romans by Botch. Pioneers of early metalcore.

Doctor: you have 11 minutes and 33 seconds left to live
Me:
then this fade out in end sounds even better
Amazing lyrics
in a weird way, this song (and by extension the album) are really calming
When you combine the strength of 1000 Gods and the century spanning momentum of 1000 beings being born, living full lives, and decaying into beautiful dust you can then, finally, imagine all that is C O N V E R G E
Jane Doe has got to be one of the most overrated albums ever created. But then one shouldn't expect much from metalcore.
I mean, this was like the 6th time I tried to give this album "a chance", but fuck if this round too wasn't but a waste of time. Shit's just weak and uninteresting - this last song is the only one I might considered an acceptable effort (most of the album just bores me - although especially the vocalist makes me giggle at times, somewhat easing the ennui this album tends to impart), but it's just one of oh so many pieces in the vast, endless churning seas of mediocrity.
"I guess you had to be there" is the only way I can understand the popularity of this album, perhaps coupled with the "babby's first metal[core] album"-effect in the case of some.
Glad for you if you enjoy it, but I think I'm finally done trying to give Converge an opportunity to prove themselves. They haven't, and they won't, and I'm just wasting my time listening to this rather than something more interesting, rewarding, or challenging.
weak, uninsteresting, uninspired, etc. are some of the biggest buzzwords in music used when you don't have an actual point to shit on an album...
@@rohomaha1614 What's the actual criticism? You just basically said "they're bad cuz I don't like them".
What's weak about the album specifically?
I will say that when I read a sentence like "but it's just one of oh so many pieces in the vast, endless churning seas of mediocrity.", it tells me all I need to know about how you interact with music generally, and puts your little rant here into perspective. It's just an endless churning sea of mediocrity, nary a "challenging" or "interesting" band on the horizon for one so discerning. Thanks for giving us the bad news, I think me and the other people here will just go back to our pathetic ignorance in consuming all this mediocre garbage, and you can rove the internet searching forever fruitlessly for "good music".

I know converge is pretty far from black or death metal in a lot of their songs, but if this song isn't true cult - idk what is. No typical blast beats or shredding, but those filthy vocals and piercing, 50 dollar amp sounding guitars in the first 6 and half minutes take me back to the lowest of lofi 80s black metal.

What is he screaming at 8:58? I must know, I just must know...
