My friend, you are hitching on the special bus lane no one dare to stop (yellow lines on the road says "公交专用“). Next time, check where is the high way entrance to Dalian and hitch there, there would be more cars have the same destination as yours. Chinese would always willing to help as well as it is convenient.
you should hail the cars from a highway entrance like you last success trip. but actually in China there are nearly no hitchhike cultrure, except for some northwestern provinces like Xizang, Qinghai.
Hitchhiking is out of date culture even in the west. It's definitely not prevalent in China. If you stick to try, you need to plan your pickup site smartly. In general. a spot far from the city along the highway towards your destination and around a parking lot for heavy trucks have big opportunities. Most important thing is you have to explain your reason for hitchhiking to the drivers
Hitchhiking is not common in China because there are legal consequences. The driver should have insurance coverage for each seat, i.e. passenger in his/her car, which is optional. Should any accident happens, the driver would have to pay for any injuries and damages to the passengers if insurance is absent!
I suggest you not try hitchhiking in China if that’s only for fun! First, you have many ways to get to wherever you want to go in China, secondly you put kind people in legal liabilities by their allowing you to ride with them, as I explained earlier! You are a nice couple and you have means, but you have to respect the laws and concerns of normal local people! Don’t, just don’t try to do something not normal and make a point! I like your other videos, but this one is a bit off.
In China, passengers in a private car are generally covered under the Compulsory Traffic Accident Liability Insurance (交强险) and, optionally, under Commercial Auto Insurance (商业车险). Here’s a breakdown: 1. Compulsory Traffic Accident Liability Insurance (交强险) • This is mandatory for all vehicles in China. • It provides basic coverage for injuries or deaths of passengers, pedestrians, and other third parties caused by a traffic accident. • The coverage is limited, and compensation amounts may not be sufficient for serious accidents. 2. Commercial Auto Insurance (商业车险) • Car owners can purchase additional commercial insurance for greater protection. • Passenger Liability Insurance (车上人员责任险): • This is an optional policy specifically covering injuries or deaths of passengers in the insured vehicle. • Compensation is determined by the coverage limit chosen by the car owner. • Third-Party Liability Insurance (第三者责任险): • Covers damages or injuries caused to third parties, which can indirectly include passengers in some cases. Key Points to Consider: • If you’re a passenger in a private car, your medical costs after an accident may be covered under the driver’s Passenger Liability Insurance if they have it.
You made valid points and thank you for your elaborated details, as i am sure they will be pretty helpful to a lot of readers who plan on visiting China themselves. I guess a majority of the viewers on this channel are people who are interested in traveling there. And beside useful information in channels i always see a huge amount of the useful insights are to be found in the comments to add context to videos.
my husband is from Dalian, his grandmother lives in Dandong. I went there in Feb 2024. Really loved seeing some places i had been with my family. Cant wait to see you guys in Dalian.
Loved this video, I think I have now watched every single one from Zante, India, Pakistan, Uzbekistan etc. I am obsessed! You are both so inspiring, I wish I had done this when I was younger (not that RUclips was even a thing then 🥴) I work in a travel agency and refer to your content often. A lady came in and asked about Uzbekistan, literally the day after I had watched your video and I think I surprised everyone when I started chatting to her about Tashkent. I can't wait for the next instalment. Have fun and stay safe...oh and I am also from the North East so if you and Paige ever find yourselves in Houghton Le Spring, pop in and say hi. There is a great local cafe in town where I'll treat you to the local cuisine, cheesy chips and gravy 🤣
Did Dandong before train over for the Pyongyang Marathon. Stayed in the Hilton. How did you not go to the NK Bbq? We were lucky enough to have a partial mandarin speaker with us. One of the best meals ever!
Hitchhiking is not common in China now because the driver worries about the potential risks to the passenger. But it doesn’t mean it’s rare. People tend to give you a lift if you raise a board on a highway, telling them you really have a big trouble.
You need to hitchhike somewhere that forces traffic to slow down 👍 if you had a deadline you should have gone for the train and then had fun on the way out! Great vid though :)
Well the thing is, unlike the last time between Harbin and Changchun, there isn't much traffic going from Dandong to Dalian. It's a much less traveled route, and you weren't on the main high way :D
The public traffice is convient and cheap in China so people prefer to take train for long distance travel. Dandong to Dalian, high way toll fee for a Car: 150 RMB/ 20euro/ 16.5 pound; Gasoline: 300km, approxy. 24L/180 RMB/ 24 euro/ 20 pound. On the other hand, high speed rail: 100 RMB per person/13 euro/ 11 pound.
Thanks for your video, and I want to say it is hard to hitchhike in China because we don't have the hitchhike culture. If you really desire people to take you a ride, try to wave hand or just take a taxi😂. And hope you enjoy happy time in Dalian💪
I'm a Liverpool fan Jack with a major soft spot for Glasgow Rangers as I'm half Scottish, anyway Geordies are class acts and so are Newcastle fans, the same goes for St James Park which is an incredible venue, basically it's a close third for me behind Anfield and Ibrox. Rafael Benitez is a legend pal you got that right, personally I detest the fact that he briefly joined the likes of Everton and Chelsea though, but didn't mind him being in charge of Newcastle though. At least he didn't join Sunderland or Middlesborough now Jack! 😂 Love the content bro, speaking of content I do RUclips myself I cover mostly history on my channel which I'm looking to get kick started all over again etc. Your Geordinese is great bro keep it up 😂
Mike Okay managed to hitchhike from Xinjiang to Beijing a few months ago. His trick is to find random cars at motorway entrance toll booths as every vehicle that appears there is supposed to drive outside the city. But yeah, hitchhiking is not a thing in China for multiple reasons. Certainly fun to watch though =D
Interesting....i wouldn't dare try hitchhiking at home in the the UK let alone in China...I saw another vlogger hitchhiking across parts of China, called Mike Okay on YT...what an adventure he had and such an eye opener.
There is no hitchhiking culture in China, because Chinese law stipulates that even if the car owner gives a free ride, if there is a car accident, the hitchhiker can claim compensation from the car owner.
I think you need a tour guide to visit North Korea, Americans are not permitted for them because they were banned from traveling to North Korea since 2017.
You guys have no idea what you are doing... silly. As someone who has lived in both of these cities, you should really speak to someone who lives here to do this.
Hi there, I'm English just like the guy in the video and I also speak a little Mandarin, which I learned to help Chinese students studying in my home City. While many Mandarin speaker appreciate the effort and even are surprised by the little Mandarin I can speak their is occasions where they will rudely downgrade my ability, which obviously does not make you feel good when you go out of your way to learn it. You need to understand Mandarin is a very hard language to learn, it took me years to perfect and master holding a conversation and while not fluent I did take up the challenge to learn, I'm not perfect but I do wish people would stop ranking and criticizing people who are brave enough to take the challenge and learn this hard language.
@@jamesvlog2477 Jack spoke the phrase perfectly fine mate. The problem is Didi, the company that acquired Uber China had created a service called 'hitchhiking', allowing users to join others' cars for a fraction of what taxis cost. yes, that's the real reason😂
Yes, it's very important to pick the right road and place.

I guess you can't win 'em all mate. Enjoy your trip and better luck next time with the hitchhiking!
I think not many people will take this route, Dandong is a relatively small city
It’s insane how developed China is!
Australia, where I am, pales in comparison (and it’s bloody expensive here)

DaLian is "football city" in China. If given the opportunity, you should experience the football matches there.

would u guys come to yanbian korean autunomuos prefecture, my hometown?
Thanks for sharing, shared.
How was there a Dalian FC match if the team dissolved on January 17, 2024? Did you film the video before the team dissolved, and only uploaded it now?
Very challenge!
Love from north korea ❤️🥰🥰
Ive only watched the last couple of video's but I have to say that you showed me that China isn't really much like what I thought it would be.
I see red line on the road. Maybe that means no stopping
question does north Koreans and south Koreans all speak same language or is different like a slang thing or no?
Liverpool are the best team in the world at the moment Newcastle are also doing well good video be safe
Rafa is a Liverpool legend. Did nothing at Newcastle 😂

All clean no graffiti.
你的牌子太小了下次弄得大一点,然后尝试在高速路口那拦车。
I think most of Chinese people don’t know a thumb up means hitchhiking…. That could be one of the reason too
If I were you, I'd hitchhike at a highway toll station instead of waiting on a random country road.😅😅😅

Damn you speak amazing mandarin you deffo need to teach your girl some mandarin as well. She looked bored

如果你在高速路口去搭便车跨城会很容易。在市区行驶的车辆从概率上来讲你很难遇到长途旅行的车辆。我想这是很简单的逻辑
如果你在高速路口所遇到的车很大概率他是跨城的
An awesome adventure, even if it didn't quite go to plan. I do think China lacks a hitchhiking culture in my experience.
Super
Are u in pakistan rn just saw u in khi airport today 😭😭
Also...you are literally leaving the border not riding it
30 quid for that hotel is amazing ive payed 150 a night to see 10 times worst than this LOL.
有挑战性,很有趣
It's very cost-effective to take a high-speed train from Dandong to Dalian, you guys are so naughty to try to increase your view counts.
There is no hitchhiking culture in China. There are many reasons why I recommend you to go to the bus station.😂
这位语言天才被坑了。两根香蕉4.3元,有点贵了。
I don't think hitchhike is a thing in China, it's not even a thing in the west, isn't it?
Korea’s been closed since 2020 lol
I went to China and got this beautiful banana😄
Yeah, uhhh. I'll just stay away from China in general. But thanks for advice.
你好杰克,我来自bilibili
太好了
no one hitchhikes in China 😂
