Nice job, explaining the perfect set-up for a diesel heater w/rooftop tent. Much appreciated. Now it's time to spend some $ on Amazon. Rock on from Michigan!
I’m aware. Did you hear me mention that I drilled a small hole at the lowest point for condensation to escape? Do you think that will help at all? It’s so much easier to move these things around when it’s hard mounted out of the way so that’s why I’m doing it like that despite what the manual says.
@coleeades I've had my vevor for 5 years now with absolutely no issues but I've seen people setting them up incorrect and having typical issues with them. good luck and happy camping 🏕
@@coleeadesyou also have your exhaust blowing right above your air intake. With the exhaust down you get fumes away and not coming back into your tent. More of a safety thing than a condensation concern for me.
Most new Powerstations have a PD extension build in. Mine gives 12 volt with 25 Amps, so no need to buy other adapters or converters. It is a very good video, and I just order this one from Vevor.
I actually have this in my Amazon cart for the last few days lol. Great video. Beginner question here....instead of the cigarette lighter end and a converter, could you swap out the connector end and use a household plug end and get the cranking amps that way through the Ecoflow?
If I’m understanding your question correctly you are asking if you could replace the entire cord with a 120v cord similar to what you would use in a home. (Correct me if that’s not what you meant) The diesel heaters run on 12v power and any time you want to switch to 120v it has to be inverted. They are not interchangeable.
I run mine of a Jackery 1000 and need the ac/dc adapter for the startup. If things get bad, I'll use the Champion 2500 to get it going, but I haven't needed to do that as the temps in my area haven't messed with the lithium battery yet. Nice to have alternative means. Thanks for the vids!
Nice video. Is it OK to run the unit long term (through the winter) outside exposed to the rain and snow with out any electrical/control/burner unit problems ?. It's great if it can handle such exposure to the elements. Now that I've seen your video, I am planning to mount one on the back of a 4x4 travel truck, but I will try to incorporate some rudimentary sheet metal weather cover for it.
I’m probably not qualified to give you a solid answer on that. Mine stays in the vehicle while traveling and then performs great in the elements overnight with no issues. But common practice for these units would be to mount it inside of a van/truck and route the exhaust outside
Where did you find the mention of >15A? I think 15A rated cables with a cigarette car plug will be more than enough based on what I found in the manual.
It’s right in the manual. The cables aren’t the problem, it’s the cigarette port on most power stations. That port is typically restricted to 6,8,10 or 12 amps. The 12v to 120v inverter is so you can use an AC port on a power station with more than enough amp supply.
Good video. I ended up using SAE connectors that go straight to my Lipo battery, with the right size fuse to never have any problems. My question is how good is it for waterproofing? I thought the control at least needed to be covered.
for my Diesel heater i use a 12v battery. with 2.5mm2 cabel and a 7.5a fuse i have 2 batterys in my caddy. on the lowest seting in 6c it gets like 35-40c inside.
With the exhaust pointing upward and with the unit not being water tight. How do you handle the rain? How to cover with the exhaust like that ? And a heads up , I just saw a melted hose like the one you have , melted the whole control panel and the surface of the heater . 😮
I got the same ducting but I am a little concerned with the fumes coming out of it as it gets very hot close to the outlet and those duct hoses are not rated for high temperatures.
Have been running one for years without any issues. Also tons of other people running them all the time. Not trying to convince you otherwise just trying give some peace of mind. Good luck 👍
I run my heater on the lowest setting (granted it’s a different heater they are all about the same internally) and it will run all night without issue. I do turn it up in the morning before getting out of the tent just so it dries everything out good
Ya I was able to run my old heater on the lowest setting and never had any issues. Probably more critical that you turn them up at the end more than anything.
Do you have a co2 alarm in the tent? I have that exact heater and it’s great. I think it’s Bluetooth but not sure. What was the name of the app that you installed on the phone?
@@coleeades When you guys talk about the CO detectors, then I wonder... is this not a closed system? In other words, doesn't the flame only burn inside that chamber and the fumes exhausted outside via the exhaust tube? And to heat, the fan forces the air OVER the burn chamber? I have no idea as I don't have one yet, but from vids I've seen, they look like they are closed off, so the heated air should be clean. No?
@ same reason you run CO detectors in your home. “Just in case”. The air is absolutely clean and pure but just like any living space it’s not worth leaving that up to chance with an appliance or in this case a diesel heater.
Take a drink for each "actually"! Okay, now I'm drunk but thanks for the thorough video. Nice to see someone using the tire step w/o cutting a hole in it for the exhaust. The levels change not only the fan speed but the frequency with which fuel is being dispensed. That fuel pump ticking speeds up considerably when on the higher levels!
What about the control/Lcd display getting rained/ snowed on ? I don't think they are water resistant i was thinking of building a "roof/ ledge" over the display unit. Or make a breathable box
Okay I assumed it wouldnt be that easy to just wire it like that, I was just trying to find the easiest without buying as many parts lol but I think I’m going to just go with the same setup you got. Looks like it works very well, hopefully my jackery 1000 will be able to power it comfortably. Thank you for the insanely quick response also!
Do these Vevor heaters with Bluetooth have updateable firmware? Either via the app or perhaps a USB connection? How is this model for maintaining a BT connection? I was watching another video on a new model with more bells and whistles, but it appears that that model has problems with the BT disconnecting constantly, but not reconnecting. The guy has to literally power the heater down, turn it back on and then BT connects again. This is very bad, so now I wonder if that's a common issue with Vevor BT heaters and if they are firmware updateable. Thanks in advance.
Honestly not sure on the firmware updates. But my BT connection is super solid. All I do is open the app and it automatically connects in seconds. I’ve never had to go to my Bluetooth settings at all.
I would say for rain. You drilled a weep hole so just route the exhaust tube up the middle of the case then to the right. The muffler opening would be horizontal instead of vertical. Probably still not ideal but better than pointing the muffler straight up into the rain. Nice video tho, thanks.
Hi, I have the same heater i got yesterday, but when I scan the qr code brings me only to the instructions manual and not to the app ... I think I got the old manual, do you have the qr code please or do you know how to turn on BT on the heater?? Im desperate cos the QR code do nothing
Ya gotta watch them.. I ordered the "high end" unit with the app. For the life of me, I couldn't get the app to find the heater. Buried in the manual, was " press M and power at the same time for 3 seconds." well, it should actually read " push the "M " , first, and immediately press and hold the power for 3 seconds". if you press both simultaneously, it either turns itself on, if it was off, or, turns itself off if it was on. GRRRR!!! Theoretically, it should now display the 4 digit characters. The next line in the manual ( page 30, bottom), is .. " The non Bluetooth version will display "NULL". Mine displays "NULL".. Me and Vevor are having at it about them sending me the wrong unit. Try "M" and then "Power", and hold for 3 seconds, and see if they gave you the right unit. "NULL" means that the app wouldn't matter.. it has nothing to talk to.. Hope that helps.

Thanks for all the links for the accessories. That’s very helpful.

@coleeades Thanks for the info. Yes, I agree, best to mount inside out of the elements if possible
The tire step is a good idea to keep it off the ground. What size tire does that step fit?
I have 35” tires and it barely fits. So probably not much bigger than a 37” tire

"CO", not "CO2". The app is "AirHeaterBLE".

Couldn’t you remove that front LED screen, extend the wires up to the tent and wouldn’t that house the thermostat??
Yes you can do that
Are you able to just wire it straight to an ac power chord instead of wiring to the cigarette lighter and getting the ac to dc adapter?
Someone can correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t think so. AC & DC power are very different and have to be converted to be used together.

Your not concerned with mounting your exhaust which gets extremely hot next to your fuel
Hasn’t blown me up yet. lol
Also, the time setting isnt worth crap. It goes too quickly and loses time very quickly
Well, it’s definitely not the best way to run the exhaust. I would be more worried about heat transfer melting the tank.
It’s been running for a while with no issues but you’re right. It’s a concern.
