  • The day is here! we get a call from our ford dealer informing us that our 2023 Ford F350 that we ordered has just arrived at the dealership. It has been sitting in Ohio for a week and a half waiting to be shipped out. We head down to pick it up. We are excited to be finally getting the truck.

      we feel that we would never break even having the extra costs of a diesel and would not have the payload numbers that we do now. We did a 15000 mile trip from PA to Alaska hauling a 5000 pound truck camper last year with a 7.3 and never felt that we were lacking power

      yes - we did a 15,000 mile trip to alaska last year with a f350 SRW 7.3 gas engine hauling our 5000 pound truck camper. It was more than enough power I would not have the haul capacity that I do now with a diesel because of the extra weight plus everything with a diesel costs more.

      Ford is 56% USA parts, GM is 53%, FCA is at a whopping 47%. Sorry to burst bubbles. All you have to do is research to find this out. Electric vehicles in each manufacturer, the percentage is vastly lower.

    Congratulations on your new truck and good call on the 7.3L. It will tow more than you'll need and you saved 10K not including having to pay extra for diesel fuel, DEF and more oil come oil change time. We did the math and with the better fuel mileage you would have gotten with the diesel you would have to drive over 300000 miles to break even on fuel costs.

      @@texaswayz2289your math is off but you tell yourself whatever you need to justify wasting 10k up front and then paying another dollar per gallon to have all your emissions shit the bed on you before 100k miles. I see plenty of 3 year old diesels at the lemon lots…

    Thanks SOOO much for showing us the door sticker with the Payload rating. Really hard to get hard factual/real numbers on this. I am looking at the Lariat and want those numbers but this is a great start! Thanks again and enjoy!

    Sorry if I missed it in the video, but I was wondering how long it took from placing the order to delivery?

      we placed the order on November 11, 2022 and it went to production on march 16th - built the next day march 17th and shipped out march 18th. It was sent to Ohio and sat there for a week and a half. It arrived at the ford dealership on April 3rd and we picked it up that afternoon.

      Is the 10yr/100K miles warranty from the factory or dealership?

      The warranty is from a company that the dealership has dealt with in the past they have had no problems with them. The dealership said that they have been having problems with ford reimbursing them for warranty work.

      When loaded with the camper and supplies we're 5,600# around here short trips about 8 on the highway 10 unload high thirteens . I only have 2,400 miles on it and no real big trips yet it's a little over a year old.

    I hope "Big Jake" is not a big mistake. Hopefully they have fixed the lifter issues on the Godzilla. If you have a healthy one it will last a very long time. Great truck!

      @@makingtimenowmtn8995 Good for you guys. My favorite trim Is the Dually with the Godzilla. Despite several reports of failures after about 40,000 miles, I still feel like they will last for a long time (as long as the left don't outlaw gas).

      @@makingtimenowmtn8995 I can see in the future; looking back and saying the 7.3 Godzilla is well worthy to be a part of the family of Ford pushrod V-8s. When I first read about it I called it "Son of 460", and "The 445", although is has been said that it's a "Medern day 351 Clevland" which means a few turns of a wrench and you got yourself a true powerhouse of an engine. I think they could use a bump in power over the next few years (from factory), but 430/485 is no slouch either. It's that type of engine built very strong. I've watched videos of people swapping into Fox Body Mustangs. What? 1,500 hp?!

      The Duke says, I just bought a brand new 2023 f550 chassis cab and the salesman told me it has an updated camshaft and piston rings. The first ones that came out had issues. I totaled out my 6.2 with 948,000 miles on it . Original transmission. Never worked on.

    I just watched a video on a 23 450 Lariat and the payload was under 5k.

      F450 is much heavier and like the F350 DWR, it has to stay at the 14,000lb GVWR, so it's going to have a lower payload.

      Yes they are made heavier for pulling that’s why we went with the XLT instead of the lariat because it adds more weight which affects your payload

      The "real" payload of an F450 is much higher, but it's derated for licensing, insurance etc

    Congrats! Your XLT beats all the other higher trims with the traditional analog gauges. All other higher trims have these bar graph digital gauges which look awaful!!! The white color look absolutely stunning!!!

      Not yet. I’ve heard of where a person can get a camera designed for that plug that you can then mount on the camper somewhere. Our camper already has a camera so I guess I’d end up with two. Just have to figure out which aftermarket option works.

      90% of commercial vehicles are white because its easy to keep clean and its cheap

      Thank you Sir. We are taking our almost identical truck to Alaska next year with our truck camper as well. What did your MPG average out to for the whole trip to Alaska for you with the other truck? (Single rear wheel)

      We averaged about 8 1/2 mpg. How are you planning on charging your batteries? The Dalton highway is adventure - it is a must - ( you want good tires for the trip. And also bug nets for your heads and an electric fly swatter - the mosquitoes are vicious!! They attack in swarms!

      Definitely will bring mosquito killing equipment! 😉 (And nets) I'll have 300 amp hrs of lithium ion batteries in the camper. They will be charged via two alternators in the Ford powering two victron DC/DC chargers. Any thoughts or suggestions?

      I will be pulling a small enclosed trailer with extra tires on rims for both the truck and trailer and other various parts. I'm an over the road truck driver that runs all 48 states and always carry extra parts and tires to work on my own stuff while on the road.

    Are you getting a new truck camper to fit the 8' box? I thought those 811 models were for short boxes or do you remove the back side under storage boxes to fit better

      yes they are for the shorter boxes, we are going to put in a spacer in front - eventually we would like to get the 1150 dry bath

      @makingtimenowmtn8995 the af 990 and 1150 are close to the same layout. Fyi- my 990 is kind of lopsided on weight. With the fridge in the slide and generator etc... on one side it just doesn't have me sold.
      I have been eying up the af 1140 because their stove and fridge are flip flopped and seems as it could even things out more. I want to actually see one or talk to someone that owns an 1140 to get their take on it tho. I've also always felt- after having both types, is that when a fridge is not in a slide that they do ventilate better when the top vent is going out the roof.

      We had a 21 and 22 f350 and we were able to take off the tailgate and still have our 360 cameras work- the 23 we don’t have the cameras when the tailgate is off
