Hi Terry After viewing this video I was inspired to try the home made dechlorinator, and I found a 1kg bag of Sodium Thiosulphate for £8.59 delivered on Amazon, followed your guide, and hey presto!, dechlorinator for pennies. Thank you so much for your entertaining and informative content and I look forward for more of your content this season; keep up the great work! David
Hi David, and thank you. It's surprising just how much more they charge for anything to do with koi, and the only difference is the colouring they put in their mix. Glad I could help mate. If I find anything else, I'll let you all know. Take care, Terry.
Afternoon Terry, pond and garden are looking as magnificent as always👍😊. Nothing wrong with things taking longer than you think they should, it’s the end result that matters😊👍. That first bit of rain was great and really dampened down the dust😊. Thank you so much for the shout out (again) and for allowing us to visit, lovely to finally meet you👍😊
Hi Phil, and thanks mate, you're too kind. That rain was so refreshing, never thought I'd enjoy a shower so much lol. I really enjoy'd your visit, will have to do it again sometime. You're always welcome mate, take care and stay safe, Terry.

Hi Dean, I know you've been with me from the start, and it's really appreciated mate 👍👍❤ thank you for your support. It has been quite a journey over the 8 or 9 years, but I have really enjoyed it, and it's people like you that make it all worth while 👋👍👍 thanks again, and you take care mate, Terry.

Thanks Lau, I'm just trying to save people a few quid here and there. With the way things are at the moment, and they're not going to get any better soon. Thanks again, and take care, Terry.
Hi Terry great video and nice to see your pond and garden very interesting about the viresco I'm in full sunlight all day and never had stringer weed but the last 3 weeks it's growing its keeping the wife busy pulling it out all the best Ron at westcliff 👍👍
Hi Ron, and thanks mate, very much appreciated 👍👍 I'm the same mate, my pond gets full sun all day, but I have to say, the Viresco does seem to be doing the job. Good to hear the wife takes an interest 👍👍 I let my wife cut the lawn 😂 take care mate, Terry.
Hi mate, lovely little video, thoroughly enjoyed, your garden is looking lovely. Amazed how quickly that little Shusui has grown, it's looking really well. SODIUM THIOSULPHATE ! as you know I used to be in the tropical and cold water fish trade but now in my 80's I don't have a pond anymore. I do however have a couple of freshwater tropical tanks and I've been using S.T. for years. If anyone has any doubts as to how it compares to the branded stuff my fish and Neocaridina Shrimp are breeding for fun, so no adverse effects at all. It is after all the same stuff and as you say will save a lot of money over time. Take care mate and thanks for sharing.
Hi mate, I hope all's well with you. Thanks for your kind comments, very much appreciated. The little shusui (sid) is growing like mad, and I've not quite had him a year yet lol. To think, when I first got him, I was worried about him getting in the bottom drain, to what he is now lol, he's going to be a big koi. He doesn't stop eating lol. Thanks mate and take care, Terry.
Hi Davey, and thank you mate, very much appreciated. The wife helps keep the garden tidy, but were both pretty poor gardeners lol. Take care mate, Terry.
Garden, pond and koi are looking great. Some really helpful money saving tips as well. With the ever increasing cost of living being able to save even a little bit helps. Cheers. 👍🏻 👍🏻 👍🏻
Hi Ken, and thanks mate, very much appreciated 👍👍it just goes to show how were getting ripped off when we mention koi lol. I would bet, the hose EA are selling as sinking, is exactly the same stuff as I used in my video. Thanks again mate and take care, Terry.
Hello Terry, good to see you well and back making videos. My dad has been using that stuff for 4 years now and his pond goes from green to crystal clear in a week without any UV on his pond. It lasts for months too. If you go on Mr Fothergills website you can get it cheaper. Look for pond clear and it's called Viresco Professional instead of viresco koi. It has no "Koi Tax" added. You can save £20 when buying 25g... 25g @ £62.00 and Mr Fothergills price is £42.75. Cheers.
Hi Simon, thanks mate. I hope all's well with you and yours. That's great info, very much appreciated. I'll check it out mate, it does sound cheaper. I totally agree with your dad, it is good stuff. Thank again mate and take care, Terry.
Hi Terry, Very useful savings tips thanks so much. I have a new pond, and it has a lot of string Algae and also have high nitrate levels. I note that this video was done about a year ago, do you still use Viresco Koi? What is your view now about this product? Did it effect your other plants in the pond? Is it okay to use Viresco in the autumn months or would you recommend I wait till spring / summer?
Hi mate, I do still use the Viresco in the pond. It does keep the algae down, and I find it does reduce the nitrates, but not remove them altogether. I'm not sure about how it works in wintertime, as my pond is heated as you may know mate, so how it would work in cold water I don't really know. I only have a Lilly in my pond and that seems ok with it, but I'm not sure about other pond plants. Your best bet is to have a look at the Viresco website www.viresco-uk.com/ you might find out a bit more on there mate. Sorry, I can't help much, take care, Terry.
Another great update Terry 👍 Pond, fish and garden looks good as usual. The new lights around the pond certainly make a difference. Been using Sodium Thiosulphate for a few years now. Costs me about 98p per litre of DIY dechlorinater liquid (£7.58 per Kg of ST). Apparently, the blue colouring is just Aloe Vera. Hope you're well. Stay safe.
Hi Keith, and thank you mate, very much appreciated. The Thiosulphate just shows how we're getting ripped off in the pond world though. I'm very well mate thank you. I hope all's well with you and yours. Take care, Terry.
Hi Terry not only does she show a interest but during lockdown of 2020 I was digging and she was on the wheel barrow she also cleans the filter floss and checks the water perameters weekly 1 in a million 👍👍👍
Hi terry I am a newish channel but watched you for years always good tips Glad you had good visit with phill and ade Interesting on the blanket weed treatment 👍㊗️🏯㊗️
Hi mate, thank you for your support, it really appreciated 👍👍 it was a great visit from Phil and Ade, we had a good old chat. You'll enjoy the hobby mate, we all do. Take care, Terry.
Great update mate, I too use thiosulfate in the bunker, and I agree always useful to have on hand. Garden lights look good, hope you enjoyed the wine 🍷
Greetings from Katy. Texas, US. I would like to ask you please if you know what disease can be so lethal that it kills koi in a term of 4 to 5 days. A couple of weeks ago we introduced three new koi to the pond and three days later we noticed the fish acting strangely. Two days later all the koi in the lake were dead. We can't imagine what virus could be so deadly that it killed our koi so fast. Thank you for your great help, Albert.
Hi Albert, the very first thing you must do is check your water quality. It could have been a KH or PH crash. Check the pond for Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate, especially KH & PH. You have to know if it was a water problem first. Have the dead koi got any marks on them, or in their gills? Are the new koi you added still alive? Has anyone been spraying or using fertilizer on the ground near the pond? There are so many things it could be down to mate. Water quality is always the first thing to check. Terry.
Hi Terry, thank you very much for your kind response, I really appreciate it. I am inclined to think that it could be a fall of the PH or KH; ammonia, nitrite and nitrate readings are zero. Now that you mention gills, we noticed that all of the koi were swimming for oxygen. However, the lake has an air pump, bakki shower, and filter; therefore we do not understand what happened, we believe the water has a good level of dissolved oxygen. Unfortunately all the koi perished, including the three new ones. I think this will remain a great unknown. Retrieving the koi was not an easy task, since it has been impossible for me to maintain the pond so far this year due to illness. Those that we were able to recover were already in a certain degree of decomposition, those that we could not were left under the plants. I am now planning to do some big water changes. One last point to this mystery, along with the koi we have some goldfish; Absolutely nothing happened to these! I really appreciate the time spent Terry. A warm greeting Albert.
Good to see another video again Terry. Hope you are keeping well. Have you considered using Seachem Safe for your dechlorinator instead? I've heard it's a lot more potent
Hi mate, and thank you, I very well thanks, I hope all's well with you and your family 👍👍 I must say, I've not heard of Seachem Safe, but I will look into it, thanks for the info mate, very much appreciated. Take care, Terry.
Great video again Terry ,I hope you and the good lady are keeping well , For anyone who didn't read the label to make dechlorinator, commonly known as 'Penta' the chemical name to search is "Sodium Thiosulphate Pentahydrate "
Wrighty pond/Garden is looking 😘👌🏻 Also for me I find AquaSource RESOLVE works fine and does exactly what states on bucket . Maybe these phosphate/ ulr Phosphorus problems could be mains water issue or possibly foliage matter (plants) that decay 🤔 . As I’ve not used the Resolve for about 3-4 months now and my pond is in a Log 🪵 Greenhouse and this summer hasn’t caused any type of unsightly problems and temps as you would expect in greenhouse to be quite high , as at this present time my Pond sits still at 24c but was 28-29c few or so weeks back and even though I have a heater it’s not come on due to the heat retention and this winter hoping to keep the temp quite stable 12-14c without heater really coming on but only for the month leading into January then build temp bk up through to spring. But everyone has there own ways for there Pond.👍🏻
Hi Simon, thank you, very much appreciated mate. I use to use the Resolve, in fact, I think I still have some in the shed. But I thought I'd give the Viresco Koi a go, and I have to say, I am impressed with it so far. I will keep you guys updated on how things go. I have already found I'm not cleaning the pond skimmer basket anywhere near as much as I was. Thanks mate and take care, Terry.
Hi Darren, this is a largely debated subject, and everybody has their own take on it. I can only tell you what I do, and that is, if I'm just doing a small top up, I just add enough for the top-up. As my pond is topped up from the filter house, I can drop it in the pond return, which mixes with the new water as it goes. If I'm doing a big top-up, I treat for the whole pond. Hope this helps mate, Terry.
Hi Terry, have you ever thought of putting venturis on your returns? It would save a few quid on pumped air. I think they’re thought of as old hat these days. But they do a brilliant job.
Hi Tony, With venturis, you need to have them after a pump to get the back pressure. As I'm gravity return, they wouldn't work on my pond as it doesn't create enough pressure to run one, Thanks for the thought though mate, Terry.
Hello, I have read that you have designed and built a drum filter and sell the plans for it and offer help/advice if needed to those who purchase that. If this is the case; please let me know how I can make that purchase. Thank you
Hi mate, yes I do sell plans for an RDF self build filter, that has proved very popular. You get a full set of instructions of the build, you also get a full list of parts and links for a UK build, as I don't have a list for other countries. There's also 29 videos showing just how everything is done, plus I'm here to help if needed. You'll find the plans on my website diypondfilters.com/shop/ if I can help further just give me a shout pondfilters@gmail.com thanks, Terry.
Hi mate, I use to have to clean my skimmer daily, as it blocks with algae, up to now (after 2 weeks) I haven't had to take the basket out at all, I just get a net, and net the rubbish that's been caught in the skimmer (leaves etc) of the top. Put it in a bucket of water with an air stone for 2 to 3 hours. You do need plenty of air on in the pond as well if poss, as it thrives better in well aerated water. I've just been talking to someone who uses it, and doesn't run a UV light at all. He says he never has algae or green water. Take care mate, Terry.
If the energy prices rise to levels as predicted I would think many Koi keepers will have to turn the heating to their ponds off. Id love here your thoughts on this and any tips you may have to manage your pond without heating or even minimising their heating use. Thanks.
Hi Andy, I have thought about this, and I think what I'm going to try for a start, is to keep the pond from dropping below 13c to keep out of aeromonas alley, and just see how things go. It shouldn't be too bad, as our winters are not as bad as they use to be. Last winter as you may know, I kept my pond at 16c and the whole winter cost me £180.00 if I remember right. I think that a lot of our parasite problems, are because our ponds don't get cold enough in the winter to kill off the parasites anymore, that's why I try to keep mine over 13c. Anything below that the koi start to lose there immune system but parasites are still thriving. I will keep you all informed as I go along mate. Take care, Terry.
Hiya terry i get my sodium thiosulphate from amazon. 8.59 a kilo delivered. i just through mine as a crystal into my bio tank as it seems to dissolve quickly anyhow.I have been told 13g per 1000 gallons.
Hi mate, thanks for the tip, that sound nice and cheap. I'll have a look 👍👍I'm just using it when I top up at the moment. I drop it into my pond return. Great info mate, thank you. Take care, Terry.
Hi Terry, the lights look great could I ask where you got them from and are they waterproof? Obviously they are so intrigued to see which ones you’ve used
Hi Richard, and thanks mate. I got the lights on eBay www.ebay.co.uk/itm/382245567223?var=652480502938 but be aware mate, they all say their water proof, but these are better than most. You can cut them to length, but I used the full 5m. I stuck them on with marine grade sealer, and I also covered everything in the sealer that water might effect, including the connections that were anywhere near the water. I have to say, they seem to be working well. These are a bit better quality than most. Hope this helps mate, Terry.
Hi mate, I don't know what would be the same where you are, sorry. Have you tried Amazon or eBay as it's usually on there. Sorry I can't help mate. Terry.
Hi Richard, this is the one I used, it's Silverline, 8mm I/D: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/322119934384?epid=3034039390&hash=item4affd821b0:g:160AAOSw8lpZE3Ug&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAABAPkJRqt0DASWWypZHKrMvKyKe5QYu3yjStIQgcksZI%2BfSIrZX0dJ%2BOga91xmyQeyFA7f2TyLUBjZZ1AOzbC54Veb%2BSbU7T6vvrlsyMOArWo0T1zNKSZJF5vjyjcxqXfNUMDn53M%2F7CX0q6F6xLJ3Sdb1V4VL0hffjGVskcD%2F5n4K5pNwS%2FRSeVM%2FOhsnlO9nYEwsn%2B92cimQSzPRqA5jOGVnkwrrOG7oOLm7FRudtet0U83HelTBZoPY2B5RJj0j2uA7sRhHdgee3XEq90kjQfL3Um1rnQPTtzI8oYjcviCH7l1dd2OkGQUPHLUuG0%2FIoRkLJwWdnzIvvyj6tHaD3oU%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR-693JfmYA
Hi Manda, and thank you, really appreciated. The wife does help a lot, but it's soon going to change, when the trees start dropping their leaves lol. Thanks again, Terry.
Hi Daz, that's right mate. The way I looked at it was, once you've made your first one and saved about £7.00. everyone after that you save £17.00. That's a big saving. Thanks mate, Terry.
Great tip, you definitely have the best pond on RUclips, garden looks great at night, still tinkering with my pond and garden, great video.
Hi Scott, and thank you for your kind comments, very much appreciated mate. I'm always tinkering, lol. Keep it up mate, Terry.

But I thought I'd give the Viresco Koi a go, and I have to say, I am impressed with it so far. I will keep you guys updated on how things go. I have already found I'm not cleaning the pond skimmer basket anywhere near as much as I was. Thanks mate and take care, Terry.
Nice to see you back
Thanks Ade, Terry.
Quick question about the Sodium T. Do you dose for the whole pond or just the tap water added?
@@Wrighty yeah I realised you were gravity return 10 minutes after I commented. Sorry 😁
No worries mate, take care, Terry.
Hi Terry , once the Viresco started working , did you find the algae/ blanket weed ended up in the bottom drain or skimmer please , just ordered some
Hi mate, I use to have to clean my skimmer daily, as it blocks with algae, up to now (after 2 weeks) I haven't had to take the basket out at all, I just get a net, and net the rubbish that's been caught in the skimmer (leaves etc) of the top.
@@Wrighty thankyou ,
If the energy prices rise to levels as predicted I would think many Koi keepers will have to turn the heating to their ponds off.
Thank you for the shoutout
Your very welcome mate, no problem. Lets hope it gets you some subscribers 👍👍 take care, Terry.
🤞
Hiya terry i get my sodium thiosulphate from amazon. 8.59 a kilo delivered. i just through mine as a crystal into my bio tank as it seems to dissolve quickly anyhow.I have been told 13g per 1000 gallons.
Hi mate, thanks for the tip, that sound nice and cheap. I'll have a look 👍👍I'm just using it when I top up at the moment. I drop it into my pond return. Great info mate, thank you. Take care, Terry.
@@Wrighty yeh just as a experiment drop it in cold water and give it a little stir. Mine does anyhow.
Some good tips on some savings Terry everyone's going to be pinching the penny's for some time to come. Have a good week mate
Hi Martyn, that's right mate, we've all got to save where we can. This is where your solar will come in very handy mate. Take care, Terry.
Did koi flash at 11:05?
Hi mate, it's quite possible, as koi do flick from time to time which is quite normal. As long as it's not constant, they're fine. Thanks, Terry.
👌👍
Thanks Matt 👍👍
