Structural approaches to interpret depositional shear in turbidites

  • Part of The Shear Zone Channel. Turbidite sandstones can contain spectacular structures associated with their deposition. By applying concepts of structural geology (including analysis of synkinematic strata), it's possible to build stories of how turbidity currents shear the sea-bed that they transit. The video follows Rob in an investigation of some stunning outcrops from the Tuscany coast of Italy.

    This is being a common phenomenon observed in Turbidites in many countries, and I was wondering... Finally a great lecture on my list here. I am excited to watch it 😍

      Glad you found it useful - yes indeed, these are very common features in turbidites, though you need good outcrops to see them ! Check out the paper (referenced at the end of the video) for other examples, including in core.

    Electric discharge is pretty convincing for building many of these structures.
