Keychron q6 was recently annouced, which is just a regular full size. Honestly curious to see if they will do niche as heck layouts like 40% or even 27%
I dunno if you already know, but try searching for "mini 1800" keyboards and you'll find options of the variety you describe. No Q-series Keychron with that layout yet, but there *are* others if that's what you seek.
@@DanH11 Yeah I bought an acrylic DIY board with the same layout as the q5 but with the function row chopped off it fits perfectly to my cramped desk setup xD. Cool thing is it's gasket mounted too. It will do for now I don't want to spend alot on a custom aluminum case "mini 1800" of the same layout that is why I'm hoping that keychron would make one. But then again it's pretty niche I can imagine only a handful including me would buy it. But they made the q8 and the q65 there might be a chance lol
Force break mod is important don't forget it. Those pads don't work, but 4 layers of blue painters tape around screw area help tremendously. Did that on my q8....will do the same on q6.
100% it will feel amazing coming from one of those. I used a Black Widow V2 for many years before getting my own custom keyboard and it made my old Razer feel like a cheap toy in comparison.
@@marlon_labrador Yeah sry i forgot to add "on the Q series" in my post. Sure the K series has north leds but it's aimed at a different audience. The deeper you fall down the rabbit hole, the less you care about backlit keycaps 🕳🐇
@@marlon_labrador North facing used to be the norm, but now it's generally seen as a negative. This is because north facing switches collide negatively with Cherry profile keycaps. Wildcat has a good video demonstrating this.
Hai guys I considering buying a brass plate for Keychron Q2. How many different weight (gram) Stock plates vs brass plates (instead of all other components all same)?
GMK key caps have issues with keyboards where the LEDs face the top not the bottom. The reasoning is the switch being “upside down” causes interference with the middle row of keys so you’ll here the cap hit the case of the switch when you bottom out the key press. Also because it is a non standard layout, you may run into an issue when buying any type of key cap set that you may not receive keys that cover every key with appropriate size units and such. However most GMK sets come with enough extras in their base set that this layout should be fine.
There's s MASSIVE FLAW of the keyboard. The Backlight is USELESSS. The characters don't lit because it's not transparent. Whoever thought of that DUMB idea? You won't see the characters in shaded or dark conditions. Funny no one talks about this.
I really want them to release an ortholinear layout
Just ordered! Can’t wait to mod it.
I’m planning to do the tape mod and force break mods, and add Sprit Slow Extreme spring swapped Gat Black Inks (v2). What are your plans with yours?

They are planning a 40% but they delayed it after one of the employees tried the layout and hated it
@@user-kz9rz8ui1c I just bought a Drop Planck but would have bought a Keychron instead if they had one. Got the Q2 and love it.
I know it's kinda pretty niche and likely a majority wont buy it but man if they can make a function row-less version of the q5 I'm gonna buy it asap.

Great Video. I think with new Stabs, Tapemod and good Switches ,- this is a good Board for a good price
nice review 👌
I think this is gonna feel amazing for me coming from a razer keyboard.

I would have bought this if it were wireless and north face LED'd, maybe next year, they'll have second iterations. Subscribed and liked.
Afaik Keychron doesn't do north facing and i doubt they ever will. Backlit legends are a thing of the past anyway.
@@Danko_HS they did with their original K series. In fact their K series featured backlit keycaps.

@@Danko_HS Thank god this hobby is all about preference.
All they need to do is do a split QS that's the same as the dygma raise but with a nice gasket mounted machined case.

I dont know if its available in your country but try to check out Royal Kludge RK98 x TTC custom
q5 or k8 pro?
can you link it in the description
It's only one (1) row wider than a TKL and 60/65 keyboards especially without F-keys are completely and utterly useless.
Is the Q5 compatible with GMK keycaps?
I saw the product page calls out their OSA PBT keycaps so I just wanted to double check.
I've heard some keyboards have compatibility issues with GMK keycaps so that also had me worried since there aren't many reviews for the Q5 yet.

Why should I buy the Q5 over the Logitech Mechanical?
You know the board sounds iffy if you have to use sa on it 😉

Sounds bad
Keychron making the 5th keyboard with the same basic design and still can't fix the ping. Very sad.
I couldn't hear any ping in the sound test tbh. Turned the volume up and everything, barely heard any.
Besides you can just do force break mod and it will all be fixed
My q5 arrived yesterday with gateron g pro red switches and it doesn't have any ping.
Speak of latency when you review a keyboard.
