The original Mega Man only had 6 bosses instead of the usual 8, and Bond Man was supposed to be the seventh until he was scrapped for technical reasons. He and his stage were supposed to be glue-themed. And my personal favorite, Warupeachi who was a character brainstormed for Mario Tennis for the N64 by Camelot as a “Wa” version of Peach in the vain of Wario and Waluigi. Yeah I was going to correct this too, cranky is the original donkey Kong with his son being donkey Kong jr. The current donkey Kong is the son of jr basically making it to where there have been 3 donkey kongs.
The most legendary example of this, one that easily out-Chuck Cunnighams Chuck Cunningham, Has got to be 12-year-old Bobby Martin in the Soap Opera All My Children, who one day in 1970 left the room saying he was going up to the attic to get his skis and was never seen or mentioned by his parents, siblings, or any other characters on the show ever again. No quick dialog patch explaining how he had to be shipped off to a mental hospital or return to his home planet, he just suddenly had never existed to begin with. Decades later, almost certainly long after every other character from Bobby’s era had left the show by more conventional means, the show finally acknowledged the by then legendary lost character when another character was rooting around in the attic of what happened to be that same house, and they had her uncover a skeleton holding a pair of skis. (Although of course she then never mentions it to any other characters or the police but instead just goes on as if it never happened.)

The best example of a lost character is Cartmans dad in the South Park pilot, alot of Cartmans personality and traits comes from the lack of discipline his mother gives him and she treats him like a best friend and not like a son
He was actually in the pilot, but got cut due to time. Also we know who his dad was. He was Scott Tennerman’s dad. Cartman killed his father and served him to his half-brother.
the only way the simpsons putting gumbly in an episode could be funny is if they just rip off their own roy joke. just have him show up, everyone act like he's always been there and then never acknowledge him again.
To be fair this type of thing is not exactly new anymore, even Rick and Morty has done the "he was here all along" thing with Poopy Butthole Also on that note if they did do it, you KNOW someone will make ironic Gumbly x Poopy Butthole ship art and J am not ready for that, like, mentally speaking
I don't think I've heard anyone who's watched Steven Universe say that Mayor Dewey was a highlight for them, but I respect that. I think the Beach City citizens in general were underrated as most fans seemed to only care about the gem stuff.

Ms. Pac-Man is another example of this. Namco lost the rights to her and now they have to pretend that she never existed. Opting to replace her with Pac-Mom in every subsequent rerelease of each game that she stared in since the lawsuits/buyout.
@@Argo_Spiral I think they own the character and I think they do own at least a portion of the rights to the game but have to pay royalties unless it's an Arcade Machine "without a coin slot" (which is why I think Arcade1up can release Ms.Pac-Man) As for why well There was this company that basically made Rom Hacks for arcade games called General Computer Corperation. (or GCC) Atari did not like when they made one of these for Missle Command they sued and now GCC needs permission to make these "Rom Hacks". They got permission to make the Pac-Man one they were making which eventually became Ms.Pac-Man. They then made a deal about getting royalties if arcade cabinets were made. 20 years later guess who forgot to pay royalties to GCC and now has some legal troubles. That's right Namco, and now because of it since 2007 there have barely been re releases because they'll have to pay royalties (as in Home Arcades, Mobile, and DLC for the og Pac-Man Museum (so far not Museum + but who knows)) But it doesn't there as while trying to get the rights back somehow GCC's royalties went to AtGames. If you search "The disappearance of Ms.Pac-Man" there should be a video about it.
It's terrifying to think, but uhh... Chuck could have been a case of the Korean war or Vietnam war taking a life, and the family trying to put it behind them. See, happy days takes place in the 50s, and there was only a 2 year period, from late 53 to early 55 that peace was active in the US, and we were not involved in a major war. Chuck could have been shipped off to 'Nam or possibly love to Korean if he was drafted. An in-universe reason that is... waaaaay too unsettling to think about.

Chuck Cunningham really reminds me of Lyman from Garfield. while he's not really a "lost character" per say, he certainly had a similar situation where he used to appear in comics regularly as Jon's roommate, but then slowly stopped appearing until he was reduced to a cameo appearance every now and then, and then poof, he was gone, and has never reappeared in the strip since. and yeah he did have that one appearance in The Garfield Show, but that's _clearly_ not Lyman, the eye shape and hair is completely different, he's an impostor!
Lyman did appear in the Garfield show, albeit he’s got something going on. A Jungle themed Garfield show episode has an in-story reason why he didn’t appear (in any Garfield work) for a long time. The reason is that Lyman turns out to be a long suffering protector of various jungle animals, which is wonderful for many fans of David Attenborough’s wild animal documentaries.
Jim Davis was asked about him in an interview and said, "Don't look in Jon's basement!" Sure enough, he can be seen chained up in Jon's basement in a Garfield horror computer game.
I remember that one scene where Graggle and Homer got into a bar fight and Graggle said, "its Gragglin' time" and then he graggled all over those guys!
@@TrashRat45 Remember when Graggle went missing and Homer tried filling in the void by saying the catchphrase but if always fell flat for him? It really showed how important Graggle was to the Simpson family.
Another infamous example of Chuck Cunningham Syndrome happened on the show Family Matters. In that show, the youngest daughter, Judy, was completely written out in the fourth season despite being a pretty prominent character in the first few ones because the actress, and her family wanted a better salary, and the rest of the cast acts like she never existed. The parents even say they only ever had two children just like what happened on Happy Days.
I was thinking about Judy as soon as I read what this video was about. I was hoping she'd be on this list. I went to the comments because I knew someone else would have mentioned her!
my memories are kinda blurry on it, but didn't they do something somewhat similar to the last example with the younger sister in Boy Meets World, where she just disappeared from the show for a while and when she reappeared with a new actress portraying her she claimed the reason she was missing was that her parents grounded her for saying a bleeped out word. if they didn't recast her the character might have just disappeared from the show alltogether.

Never much cared for Graggle, was glad he was put on the back burner in later seasons. Him felt very similar to Mr. Poopybutthole (or perhaps Mr. P feels similar to Graggle?) either way, what made Mr. Poopybutthole work was that he wasn't a main character & had sparce appearances. Honestly if they had just made him a secondary character I would prolly like him more. Just hope he's doing alright in his trip around the word to break the world record for most pictures taken of yourself in every state/country/continent w/ only 10 rolls of camera film to beat the precious record which is 11.

You can’t forget when in the vr game where he appears as his own night terrors level. I can’t believe they gave him half the game! And the part where him and Nightmare Puppet attack you..super spooky
I like the idea of scripulous fingore REALLY wanting to be in a Mario game but never making the cut and miyamoto just being super annoyed with fingores bullshit. Not even wanting to give him the attention by complaining about him in an interview
Scripulous Fingore is the haunting ghost of Graggle Simpson, meaning that it's a dead person. It's always pointing at Mario because he's stuck in his world and wants to know how to get out. Miyamoto was mad about being asked regarding Fingore's existance because his game was haunted for a while.
I really dig Scripulous Fingore, I should keep him in track for a future game. Graggle Simpson/Weird Matt/Gumbly looks really neat too, I like him. Though his origin sounds like a bit of an obsession, which seemed relatively harmless.
My personal favorite lost character is Rachel from The Amazing World of Gumball She was pretty similar to Chuck actually; she made minor appearances in the first season, and only ever speaking in one episode if I’m correct. After Season 2 or 3, she would entirely stop making appearances in the background like most other minor characters. She would rarely ever be mentioned again. They did wrap up some explanation on the shorts involving Darwin after the show ended, stating Rachel went off to college… interesting why a girl about to go off to college kissed Darwin, a 10 y/o on the cheek, but nevertheless
The Amazing World of Gumball straight up did a whole episode about a lost character years ago. 3rd season episode, "The Void" which was literary about them looking for a missing character only to discover that she was swallowed by the universe and taken to a place where all the mistakes and bad ideas end up. Can't believe they predicted the lost character trend 😤
Mock Turtle is in McGee's Alice games too, in the first he's crying over the dutchess stealing his shell and in Madness Returns he just takes a ship underwater to avoid skeleton sharks, only to cry again when the ship crashes into the sea floor. doesn't do much in those games apart from cry, apparently the internet also loves Bowsette so much she feels like a lost character by now. if she's never going to be in smash I see some very extreme reactions from fans
fun fact in the TOH segment Time and Punishment in one of the alternate timelines that Homer visited Roy was meant to reappear as the eldest Simpsons son from an alternative universe.
The Byers' dog in Stranger Things is a lost character too, the dog was there for a few episodes in the first season, completely not acknowledged or present in the second season, and I think there was a grave for the dog in the third? But they hardly addressed it.
In the same vein as the last character in this video, in the TV show "Nurse Jackie," there is a character in the first season that is Jackie's gay best friend, or so we're told. Because after the first season, he is never seen or mentioned by anyone ever again.
Idk how much you've watched but Gumball has a canon explanation for characters or items that go missing, there's like a void where they disappear to. There's a few episodes about that
I think the writers for the show disliked her so they just stopped using her, at one point she became a background character but then she just disappeared. I think In one of the episodes for “Darwin’s yearbook” Tobias mentions how she went to college
Longer videos on this topic would be awesome it's so interesting. Shoutouts to Tobias's sister from Gumball lol (I think her name is Rachel)? She disappeared after season 1 but unlike Molly and Rob she never came back and wasn't even mentioned until Darwin's Yearbook (a crappy clipshow series that came after the last episode) where it was thrown in that she went to college. Apparently the real reason of her removal is just simply that the writers hated her. I've always found cut character from video games to be super fascinating too especially if playable. Miho from yugioh "season 0" could also arguably count.
Wow! Really good video. Honestly that whole Chuck Cunningham thing is really weird and usually when characters in shows leave there is some in-universe reason as to why but i find it weird how they never explained it. Makes you wonder how people at the time felt about that.

while i find gumbly and graggle to be interesting names, i really think that weird matt/yellow matt is the best as it makes sense in the context of the character. he’s supposed to be caricature of matt groening.
Another lost character is Eddy from Kickin it. He just disappeared, and the characters never acknowledged it. There was no farewell episode or background mention of his character.
Remember When Roy lived with the Simpsons and then left to live with Two Sexy Ladies? Edit: The Chuck Cunningham situation reminds me that in the early episodes of "Boy Meets World" Topanga had a sister but then she was an only child, same with Donna from "That 70s Show" who had 2 sisters but then she also became an only child
When I was a kid, I tried to convince my friend that there was a "lost" smurf that he forgot about. This smurf was a bit of a weirdo, and his eyes were always covered by his cap. My friend didn't buy it, and I felt silly for trying to BS him like that.
There could be an episode about lost South Park characters! Such like Pip, Estella, Pocket, Gary, Mark and Rebecca, Thomas and Gregory & Christophe from the 1999 south park movie.
The Graggle one for me is completely ridiculous that anyone could genuinely believe it is true. It is hilarious. You got this down to earth setting with a man and his family and then you have this horrific naked mutant pet thing just randomly sitting there. It just feels so out of character for Matt to come up with something this asinine 😆😭
Dude your dumb graggle is their graggle has always been there he loves soda and his catchphrase is “DONT FORGET” he always said it at the best moments (:
do you guys remember the "archfiend" boss in the original doom? i think it was like the secret final boss, in each episode's secret level you would collect a "hell key" stored in the level, usually behind a tough puzzle and not just a push wall or a hidden door if you collected all of these hell keys and beat the spider mastermind, the arena's floor would lower and bring you into this big chamber where you would fight this secret boss this was around 1993 so there might be some inconsistencies, all i remember is the boss made horrible noises and had a very unique way of beating it, also its phase 2 was really fucking hard the boss was invincible, not like the icon of sin where you would pump rockets into its brain, it was more like el oscuro where he was invincible in the first phase but you could kill him in the second he could summon every monster in the game except for cyberdemons and masterminds, which would spawn near these switches you had to press in order to raise some tesla coils after raising the tesla coils they would zap him, making him vulnerable to gunfire, however i can't really remember a whole ton past that point except that it was fucking ball-breaking and i died numerous times i hope they add him back or something similar in some doom eternal dlc, he was one of the hardest bosses for the time, even after rise of the triad came out with the nme edit: fixed some grammar stuff
Don't forget about Mattheo Riddle, which is the Harry Potter fandom's attempt at copying Scripulous Fingore and Graggle Simpson but I don't think they really understood it. They don't really lean into talking about the character like they always existed, they just make really cringy edits.
My head-canon is that Fedora Kong is Donkey Kong's dad and Donkey Kong Jr, who is Cranky's son (as seen in the arcade). Cranky Kong is actually DK's grandad idk where you got dad from
Man, my parents introduced me to "Happy Days" and it always bothered us how Chuck Cunningham basically disappeared from reality. I never knew they coined a term based on him to describe similar situations in media; I guess HD is not a stranger to such things with other phrases sparked from the show like "jumping the shark". I guess the "war victim" theory is the most logical conclusion in-universe. That said, I wouldn't mind a Graggle segment for the Treehouse of Horrors and a Scrupolose Fingore canonical appearance.
another famous Chuck Cunningham Syndrome character is Donna’s little sister in That 70s Show. she had a full appearance and namedrop in one of the earlier episodes, and was shown to have a crush on Fez. Donna even had an older sister too who wasn’t living at home, but both characters were dropped altogether. Donna worked better as an only child, but it’s still interesting to see introduced characters fall off the face of the earth after only one or a few episodes
yall remember avocado princess from adventure time? i laughed my eyes out when she nearly killed larry with that giant sandwhich she was making for jake
It’s so weird that people really “remember things wrong” like I’m sure everyone would remember the naked Simpsons character that didn’t match the rest of the characters in the show
Actually cranky Kong is canonically Donkey Kong's grandfather, whereas his son is actually donkey Kong Jr, meaning donkey Kong Jr is actually donkey Kong's father, meaning Fedora Kong can easily be a grown up donkey Kong Jr
In Boy Meets World's pilot, there's a third boy sitting with Cory and Shawn at the lunch table that is never seen again and ever since learning about it, I've always wondered what happened to him.
One that I always remembered was Donna's sister from That 70s show. She just randomly appears in an episode and then was never seen or mentioned again. They were having a party or something.
Reminds a lot of that Disney Fish Hooks cartoon. There was one episode where one of the protagonists didn't want to repeat the school year, else everybody would forget about him. Then, they introduce a new character who repeated a school year, yet nobody remembers him, and they show clips from prior episodes with him added in. Seems like they were onto something, huh.
To other quick examples of what happened with happy days. On full House there was another daughter in the household who just disappeared after the first season I believe. Also boy meets World got rid of the younger sister for at least a few years I think, then she randomly came back and they made a joke about it
The best part about the fingore is the thought of Shigeru Miyamoto saying something like this : “SHUT UP! SHUT THE FUCK UP! THERE IS NO SCRUPULOUS FINGORE. THIS INTERVIEW IS *OVER*!”
One lost character that might be worth covering would be Calvin's uncle from the 'Calvin & Hobbes' comic strip in the 80s/90s. He showed up for a series of strips and then Waterson, the author, later admitted to disappearing him from existence.
Bruh how could you not like Graggle Simpson? I’ll always remember that one graggle episode where he convinced everyone on the show to actually be nice to each other, that was the inspiration to get me to actually be nice. so in conclusion, Graggle Simpson is the best character ever in cartoon history.
This reminds me of the daughter character from the sitcom Mama's family. She was there in the early seasons but then she just stopped showing up, and the brother character's actor changed.

One I don't hear alot of people talk about is Charlie's little sister in It's Alwys Sunny in Philadelphia. She is seen and mentioned once in the Season 1 episode "Charlie got Molested" but never mentioned or seen again after that. I find that odd considering how much we see Charlie's mom and uncle. It also leaves open some pretty disturbing theories as to why she disappeared as well, considering Charlie's uncle is heavily implied to be a child predator.

Wouldn't Scott be his half brother if they have the same dad?

the only way the simpsons putting gumbly in an episode could be funny is if they just rip off their own roy joke. just have him show up, everyone act like he's always been there and then never acknowledge him again.
which is not at all how modern simpsons writers would do it lol
To be fair this type of thing is not exactly new anymore, even Rick and Morty has done the "he was here all along" thing with Poopy Butthole

Ms. Pac-Man is another example of this. Namco lost the rights to her and now they have to pretend that she never existed. Opting to replace her with Pac-Mom in every subsequent rerelease of each game that she stared in since the lawsuits/buyout.
huh? how'd they lose the rights?
@@Argo_Spiral I think they own the character and I think they do own at least a portion of the rights to the game but have to pay royalties unless it's an Arcade Machine "without a coin slot" (which is why I think Arcade1up can release Ms.Pac-Man)
As for why well
There was this company that basically made Rom Hacks for arcade games called General Computer Corperation. That's right Namco, and now because of it since 2007 there have barely been re releases because they'll have to pay royalties (as in Home Arcades, Mobile, and DLC for the og Pac-Man Museum (so far not Museum + but who knows))
But it doesn't there as while trying to get the rights back somehow GCC's royalties went to AtGames.

Graggle's catchphrase "It's Gragglin' time" was always plopped in at just the right time, honestly.
He always said “It’s Gragglin’ time” when it was Gragglin’ time
I remember that one scene where Graggle and Homer got into a bar fight and Graggle said, "its Gragglin' time" and then he graggled all over those guys!
@@TrashRat45 Remember when Graggle went missing and Homer tried filling in the void by saying the catchphrase but if always fell flat for him? It really showed how important Graggle was to the Simpson family.

Yeah it was so nice how the directors of the hit blockbuster Morbius slipped in a reference to everyone's favorite Simpson's character Graggle.
Jesus Christ.
Gumball does similar jokes similar to a lot of the comments on this vid (other than the graggle joke ones)
Phew. I was starting to think no would mention this one.
I was thinking about Judy as soon as I read what this video was about. I was hoping she'd be on this list. I went to the comments because I knew someone else would have mentioned her!
I love Family Matters, and I completely forgot about Judy.. that's so sad.
my memories are kinda blurry on it, but didn't they do something somewhat similar to the last example with the younger sister in Boy Meets World, where she just disappeared from the show for a while and when she reappeared with a new actress portraying her she claimed the reason she was missing was that her parents grounded her for saying a bleeped out word. if they didn't recast her the character might have just disappeared from the show alltogether.

Minor thing- Cranky Kong isn't Donkey Kong's father, he's his grandfather so fedora Kong being DK Jr. and DK's dad could work
My personal favorite lost character is Rachel from The Amazing World of Gumball
She was pretty similar to Chuck actually; she made minor appearances in the first season, and only ever speaking in one episode if I’m correct.
Mock Turtle is in McGee's Alice games too, in the first he's crying over the dutchess stealing his shell and in Madness Returns he just takes a ship underwater to avoid skeleton sharks, only to cry again when the ship crashes into the sea floor. doesn't do much in those games apart from cry, apparently
the internet also loves Bowsette so much she feels like a lost character by now. if she's never going to be in smash I see some very extreme reactions from fans

I wanna know what happened to Tobias’s sister from Gumball.
Ok so
College
She died
Idk how much you've watched but Gumball has a canon explanation for characters or items that go missing, there's like a void where they disappear to. There's a few episodes about that
I think the creators said she went to college or something, and that's why she doesn't show up later on in the series.
I despise Graggle Simpson. He awakens something deep and violent inside of me.

do you guys remember the "archfiend" boss in the original doom?
i think it was like the secret final boss, in each episode's secret level you would collect a "hell key" stored in the level, usually behind a tough puzzle and not just a push wall or a hidden door
if you collected all of these hell keys and beat the spider mastermind, the arena's floor would lower and bring you into this big chamber where you would fight this secret boss
this was around 1993 so there might be some inconsistencies, all i remember is the boss made horrible noises and had a very unique way of beating it, also its phase 2 was really fucking hard
the boss was invincible, not like the icon of sin where you would pump rockets into its brain, it was more like el oscuro where he was invincible in the first phase but you could kill him in the second
he could summon every monster in the game except for cyberdemons and masterminds, which would spawn near these switches you had to press in order to raise some tesla coils
after raising the tesla coils they would zap him, making him vulnerable to gunfire, however i can't really remember a whole ton past that point except that it was fucking ball-breaking and i died numerous times
i hope they add him back or something similar in some doom eternal dlc, he was one of the hardest bosses for the time, even after rise of the triad came out with the nme

I thought Chuck Cunningham “went off to college.”
