  • Nigel Farage spoke to Nick Ferrari this morning after announcing yesterday that he would stand in July's general election to become an MP. He also takes over as leader of Reform UK, from Richard Tice.
He says he had a 'terrible sense of guilt that he was letting down' people, who he says, wanted to see him run.
Mr Farage, who was a vocal leader of the Vote Leave campaign, tells Nick Ferrari that Brexit will be renegotiated next year.

We've got precisely no reason to renegotiate with Britain.
    None.
Britain made an utter mockery of the first negotiations. When the EU negotiators turned up, they were extremely well prepared. They had a roadmap for negotiations, instructions from the entire European system on what lines they couldn't cross, they had clear mandates for what to achieve.
The British negotiators turned up late, did not bring so much as a pen to take notes with, had no plan and no premise and they were completely flabbergasted when they realized that the EU was not simply going to give them absolutely everything they demanded on a silver plate.
It was an EMBARRASSMENT for British diplomacy, to the point where numerous EU negotiators were, at first, convinced it was some sort of elaborate joke.
It wasnt. The British genuinely believed they would simply get ALL the benefits of being a member of the EU without ANY of the responsibilities, and they were totally unprepared for the possibility that anyone would ever dare say "No" to these demands.
They weren't even bluffing. To bluff, at least you need to hold a few cards on your hand, but in this case, they weren't even active in the game.
It was covered thoroughly in the media, and may very well have been the single most incompetent display of lack of political or diplomatic insight since "Peace in our time".
There is no REASON for the EU to renegotiate with anyone who is or was involved with the brexit-movement, even in a much more peripheral manner than Farage was.
If Starmer turns up, asking for negotiations BASED on the existing deal, to make things run more smoothly for all parties, then yes, probably. But absolutely no one in the EU will agree to renegotiate brexit itself.
The idea is pathetically imbecillic, and will be seen as insulting at best ... more likely downright farcical.
If Britain, one day in maybe ten or fifteen years applies to join the EU again, it will go through the normal procedure TO join, meaning it will be a prospect nation for a while, while the EU thoroughly investigates it to ensure it lives up to EU standards. Then it will have to negotiate the conditions of joining, and while Britain had a maaaaajor sweetheart deal in the past, with numerous exceptions, that will not happen again. And then it'd have to vote itself back in, by referendum, before a short period of a year or two of preparations take place.
At BEST Britain is an EU member once again in fifteen years. More likely twenty.
    But renegotiating brexit?
    Farage is living in lala-land.

for now, we will first concentrate on the Eu elections.

Thatcher (and the Tories)was the architect of Brexit, not Farage.
Her ideological aversion to integration and moves to entrench neoliberal policies helped plant the seeds for the Eurosceptic populism that culminated in Brexit decades later.
Brexit has allowed the Tories to double down on Thatcherite policies of deregulation and tax cuts by removing EU standards and worker protections, much like Thatcher's own agenda.
Thatcher's neoliberal economic policies of deregulation, privatization, and anti-union measures laid the groundwork for the anti-EU, pro-sovereignty sentiment that drove Brexit.
Her policies increased inequality and insecurity among working classes who later backed Leave.
Her famous "Bruges Speech" in 1988 railed against a centralized European super-state and promoted British nationalism over continental integration.
Thatcher's battles with Europe over issues like the UK's budget rebate and the Single European Act sowed seeds of Euroscepticism within the Conservative Party that persisted after her downfall.
The rhetoric of "taking back control" from Brussels and regaining sovereignty channelled Thatcher's confrontational stance against European overreach.
Leading Brexiteers like Nigel Lawson explicitly framed leaving the EU as a chance to "finish the Thatcher revolution" of rolling back state intervention and regulation.
