I wrote a suite of music for instruments I designed and built (and guitar). Here's one of the songs!

  • Well...excepting the saucepan, I guess. I didn't make that. But I do maintain that "percussion instrument" isn't its intended purpose!
I got so busy making videos about my vinyl collection that I forgot about this project, but some of you have been asking for the rest of it, and I'm happy to oblige. Thanks for the reminder.
When this project was first commissioned, I had no idea what I was signing up for - surely writing an 8-part suite on instruments that I was still building, then recording it, then mixing it, then making a series of videos, then editing those and putting it all together would be a breeze, right?
It's fair to say I misjudged. But I wouldn't trade it for the world. While it has been undeniably exhausting, creating EQUINOX 1 has also been one of the most fulfilling projects I've ever worked on, and I'm really proud of the finished product.
This piece is called "Macrocosmic", and it was filmed on the beach on a very busy day (which drew rather a lot of attention, to my great horror). The day was stunning though, and I'm glad I persevered through the social anxiety to put together this video.
May you find in this music something that brings you joy.
    Thank you for listening.
    xx

I would appreciate a follow-up post from your hurdy-gurdy correspondent on the physics of that design. Very well crafted composition and production.

I recently started watching your videos on Revolver and What's Going. This is the first hearing your music and it's great, both upbeat and dreamy. As a songwriter myself who never outwardly realized what's insides himself, I appreciate your playfulness and craft.
I'm developing a crush on you. What to do? It's just good to see you happy.

Very nice. The video has obviously taken a lot of work, not to mention the actual building of the instruments. And the composition itself is delightful. Well done.

I really like the sound of the violin type instrument. With the bow.

the piano correspondent will be going crazy over these chords. there's definitely the possibility of a nice vocal line for a song in the opening phrases but that's probably not your intention, just me.

Tremendous! You should do an album of home-made instrumentals.

First I'm watching you critique Revolver tracks and thinking, "she's really knowledgeable and has interesting insights and a fun delivery style." The as part of the critique you're playing the part on multiple instruments, and I'm thinking, "Oh, she can play too."
Then I go to your page and see the title for this video. You know it's like the meme, where the intensity of the photo on the right keeps increasing, You know, "Aaaand she writes music and builds her own instruments!!" Mind blown.
Then I'm thinking the logistics of shooting outside and editing. I can tell I'm going to enjoy perusing your channel. Hats off to you. I know what it's like to wear too many hats, you wear them well.

That was awesome! The hurdy gurdy guitar is an interesting design. Would love to see it with a pickup installed and ran through some effect pedals.

That was really cool. A very nice, interesting melody to listen to.
It reminds of a radio station up in far northern Wisconsin that we'd wake up to during deer camp at my buddy's cabin. They would play unique stuff like this while we were eating our oatmeal getting ready to go sit out in a ladder stand and freeze our you know what off. We could entertain ourselves musically too, we had a couple acoustic guitars, a mandolin, and some of his dad's dulcimers up there.
I like the crank start cello. Does she still fire up when it's below zero?
