Shannon, I love alpaca too but when it comes to alpaca, it's a fiber that doesn't retain memory. Therefore it can tend to stretch out and will not go back to its original shape. So if you use 100% alpaca, keep that in mind. If I use it I will hold it with a wool or other animal fiber.
Love your videos Shannon, love your common sense and grounded, joyful yarn awareness! Sorry to miss Saturday lives, I have to be elsewhere, but have fun!
One of the BEST pieces of advice I follow came from u. When mixing yarns from stash use colors that go together! My pieces look so much better now. Thank you!❤
Plan projects without so many individual colors of yarn. The more you have, the more leftover yarn you have. Years back, I made a toddler blanket, from a Vanna's Choice pattern, with about 12 different colors of yarn. When finished, I realized I'd only used half of each color. While I did eventually find uses for the yarn, I still bought twice as much yarn as I actually needed. If I'd used only a few colors, I'd have bought much less yarn. So, either buy just 1-3 colors of yarn for a project, or take advantage of today's amazing ombre, variegated,, striping, etc yarns, to get your color kicks. My money-saving crochet goals this year are to keep working on the projects I started, and If I decide to make a new project I have to use the yarns I have, only allowed to buy basic yarn to pull those together, like white, soft white, aran, grey, beige, black.
Hi Shannon! Enjoyed this content. I told myself I’m not going to buy yarn until March ! ( this was after I organized all my yarn and realized how much I have)! ❤
Hello 👋 New to your channel, and just finished watching this video. Auctions are another option for cheap yarn 😍. A friend used to get me (or text me to check the pictures of lots)lots of yarn -meaning boxes or bins-after I told him what I would bid. I asked him to stop notifying me about yarn for bid bc I have WAY more than I will ever use in a lifetime 😂. I've also been given/gifted yarn by three friends ❤. And it's been big bags at a time 😮. My boss gave me years ago an enormous trash bag full of new skeins when her step mother passed away. And she had so much that she also donated another bag or two to a nearby nursing home. Anyway I'll close by saying hope to get to join your live on Saturday 🤓! I work this coming Saturday, but hopefully I'll be notified before it starts.
I learned to spin. It’s a little bit extreme of a budgeting strategy but it was originally meant to slow down my yarn consumption and crafting as I was giving myself repetitive motion injuries from knitting. The initial saving was that I was consuming less yarn, then I discovered that while my preferred ready to knit yarn was $30 per 100g, I could get that same fibre combination in a ready to spin for under $10 and I had more colour choice!
I have a pretty large yarn stash, accumulated over a few years of really good clearance sales. Putting it all into Ravelry saved my sanity. It took a few days to get it all out, take pictures, reorganize it, etc. You can even leave yourself a note about where in your room it's stored. It was so worth the time; now I shop my own stash before I buy, and it's saved me so much money!
My problem is my family gifting me yarn. My stash is about 90% gifted yarn, which is great but it’s usually colors I don’t really like or it’s value yarn that I don’t really use that often. So my plan this year is to use up as much of my stash as possible on blankets to give away and treat myself to some “special” yarn to make small projects for myself.
Perfect video for me! Just today I was sooo tempted by an ad that keeps popping up in my Facebook feed 😂. I really want to only buy when I have a pattern in my hot little hand. Great tips!
I'm definitely spending less this year. I'm currently on a yarn ban and shopping the stash, but I don't think that'll be an all year thing. However, it's teaching me to buy yarn with a purpose. I should have an idea of what I want to make before I buy yarn. I impulse buy because there's a good sale, but then I'm left with yarn I have no idea what I'm doing with and my stash just grows
LOL every time I watch you can sense I'm a silent "lurker", thank you for always giving us the best insight and tips for us to better ourselves and achieve the best when it comes to our craft💖✨ any alpaca brand recommendations?
I think it’s important to realize that the “sales cycle” is really a manipulation cycle. Every time a shopper enters a store or visits a website, generally speaking, they will buy more than they intended. So if Hobby Lobby can get you to show up twice for yarn and then for fabric, they are going to sell more stuff. The sale every other week isn’t really a sale-it’s the price they would normally charge. They are just getting people in the door by using the marketing strategy of using the word “sale”. The very best way to save money on yarn is to avoid emails, texts, RUclips videos from haul type videos, trips to the store, etc. Just stay home and use the yarn you have.😊❤

I'm totally okay with holding yarns together! Thanks for the tip!

it can be sooooo hard to find uses for yarn you've been gifted!

hey, nothing wrong with lurking! 😊
If you aren't used to alpaca, I would start with Drops since it's so affordable!
Hi Shannon 🤗🥰🧶🤩
Hello Litsa!!!! ❤❤❤
I did not see a link for your top 3 beanie patterns.
No problem! Here's the video: ruclips.net/video/Z9-idr1IMXs/видео.html
Alpaca is sooo soft but I don’t enjoy spending so much time on a project just for it to lose its shape
💗👍
