    Thanks Tony. Very happy I found your channel. I've been a fan of Kirk since I found him 7 or 8 years ago. His simplification of Moe's swing has proven very helpful. I just turned 60 and realized that lately that I'm slipping back into some traditional habits, degrading my game and that I need to refresh my thinking. Your channel is perfect for a refresher, and you introduce some great new stuff as well. Thanks! After watching some of your bunker play, I'm now dedicated to seeing greenside bunkers as targets...sometimes. Cheers from the mountains of Utah.

      Hi Todd...thanks for watching and the compliments. The bunker technique is old school but easy to do and still works! Sometimes being in a bunker is better than greenside rough!

    Ive been watching you and Kirk for about a week. Ive been just kind of stuci k in limbo with my golf game and to be honest a little skeptical at first but then i took it to the range. As you say it isnt difficult and i picked it up fairly quickly and was i amazed. The contact is so much better as well as more accurate and consistent. I know im early in the process but huhhlu

    Tony what is the difference of where you place the ball between your pitching wedge and your 3 iron. I’m mean from closer to your back foot for the PW to your front foot for your 3 iron. Do you change where the ball is put. Thanks.

    • @GeezerTony
      @GeezerTony  2 месяца назад

      Hi Keith,
      Nothing farther back than middle (unless I'm trying to hit it very low such as under a tree limb). Ball position moves progressively toward the lead foot as the loft on the irons go down, up to the driver off the lead instep. That being said, there is about a six inch area that I can position the ball within for every club and still make good impact...the ball will just go lower or higher depending on where I put it within that area.

    Good ball striking Tony. I am a member of Kirk's online setup for impact. I like this swing and hit the ball pretty straight, however I struggle with transferring my weight to the front side and getting good distance from my clubs. Also, my swing is too shallow sometimes and I have problems making good contact from the rough. How do you make good contact when the ball is in the rough?

    • @GeezerTony
      @GeezerTony  7 месяцев назад +1

      Hi Steve,
      From the rough, if the grass is thick or fairly high and the ball is not sitting up, I will play the ball just a bit more back towards the trail foot and start with a little more weight on the lead side...and hit one club less than what the yardage calls for. This allows me to come a bit more downward into impact and catch less grass with the clubhead. Usually the ball will come out hotter than from the fairway, the reason for using one club less.

    • @stevecampbell5928
      @stevecampbell5928 7 месяцев назад

      I'll remember that next time I'm in the rough. But why does the ball come out hotter?

    • @GeezerTony
      @GeezerTony  7 месяцев назад +1

      @@stevecampbell5928 because grass between the ball and clubface at impact reduces the spin and causes the ball to go farther. Known as a flyer....you will see a big green spot on your ball and on the clubface when that happens.

    Nice playing! Curious on your take of addressing ball towards heel of club especially with driver it seems really pronounced. This is something I can’t wrap my head around & when I don’t hello toe shots all day!

    • @GeezerTony
      @GeezerTony  4 месяца назад

      Strangely I never knew I had it on the heel until I started teaching and videoing. It looks like in the middle to me and I guess it's just where I hit it the best from. I wouldn't try to have any students do it. Kirk says it accounts for shaft droop (look that up) and brings the clubhead to where it should be at impact. Anyway it's not a big deal, I see some good players addressing on the toe of the club also.

    Good video. What you're doing is it a straight line set up? Is your grip more in the fingers or the palm?i am about the same age as you i have Lost a lot of distance I am looking to get some of it back would like your input thanks 👍

    • @GeezerTony
      @GeezerTony  7 месяцев назад +4

      Hi Donald, it is called single plane, single axis, one plane, etc. The grip is more in the palm than conventional but not in the lifeline of the hand. The power (length) is generated by the body turn ahead of the club, and my making correct impact. Go to Setup 4 Impact.com to learn more...also watch youtube videos by Kirk Junge. We do NOT teach the Moe Norman swing as some other instructors teach that. Setup 4 Impact the the easiest, fastest way to improve your golf in my opinion. 8 years of teaching it is what I base that opinion on.
      I have gained distance with this swing as I have gotten older.

    Hey Tony, do you play most shots with a slightly closed stance? Looks that way from the camera angle. Sounded like a camera flash going off every time you took a swing (except putting). I'd guess it was the sound of your arm rubbing across the mic as you were swinging. I ain't no sissy, but can't hit an 8-iron 165 yards! Geezer aren't supposed to be able to do that. I'd imagine your impact position helps in that regard, how about your clubs? Are you using graphite iron shafts that are relatively light to get more swing speed?

    • @GeezerTony
      @GeezerTony  2 месяца назад

      Hi Jonathan, yes that sound was the mic. I now mostly put it on my cap to avoid the extra noise. Partly the camera angle and yes I set up very square to slightly close, just what works best for me. These are 65 gram shafts in the irons, but mostly they go far because they are loft jacked (paradym X). Never thought I would hit game improvement (hackers) clubs, but I tried someone else's and hit them so well I got myself a set. They are ugly to me but I got over that when I saw the ball going where I wanted to to go so often, lol. Yes, it's all about good impact that gives the good distance.

    • @jonathansmith9705
      @jonathansmith9705 2 месяца назад

      @@GeezerTony I had a good chuckle from your response. Thanks! A 170 yd 7-iron swung by a geezer. Wow. I was fitted with the paradym irons last year. The lofts are indeed "jacked," and I too think they're ugly. I grew up doing the best I could with blades. The shafts I used to use were the gold standard, DG S300s which are 130 grams. The paradym fitter suggested 95 gram S steel shafts. A single plane instruction-company fitted me without me swinging a club (via. Email by giving them my swing speed) with the same head, but with lighter graphite shafts. They think folks should be fitted differently for a single-plane swing. I heard Kirk say that the club lengths and lies don't have to be changed, that ones distance to the ball would be adjusted instead. I'm confused, and it's expensive to buy and hope. On UST Mamiya's website, they suggest not making more than a 20 gram change since it would be difficult to make the transition. I've been using a 120 gram shaft. Would you recommend dropping to a 65/68 gram graphite shaft like yours? My 7-iron swing speed is about 86 mph.

    • @GeezerTony
      @GeezerTony  2 месяца назад

      @@jonathansmith9705 Ok so I made a 50 gram change and instantly noticed the difference...and it was a great difference. No fitter ever tried me in anything lower than 105 steel and always stiff. I just happened to try these 65 gran reg flex graphite and was shocked at how well I hit them. Face it, I can pretty much hit anything decently well, but these are just so much easier to hit a good shot with. I'm wondering if I put these shafts into some other heads would they work as well?
      If you play with anyone with light graphite shafts, try theirs. Like you, I won't buy them just to try them. I have no idea what my speed is except with the driver, I recently had access to a monitor and was clocked at about 105 consistently, low 101, high 109. .
      As for different clubs for single plane, if they were good before, single plane doesn't change anything. Lies should be set at impact, and we are just setting you up on that impact plane, not changing the impact plane.
      Those people you mentioned just want to sell you some clubs, no way at all they can truly fit anyone by email. lol.

    • @GeezerTony
      @GeezerTony  4 месяца назад

      I don't hinge my wrists going back as you can probably see...but they do hinge to star the downswing, lagging a lot. But that's just me, Setup 4 Impact allows us to "do it your way" and follow certain parameters. Also, no conscious rotation of the arms/hands, we actually advocate a non rotational trail arm. • @GeezerTony
      @GeezerTony  4 месяца назад +1

      The slope on the fairway is so severe to the left, I either have to play a cut to stay in the fairway, or play to the right edge with a straight shot, but to me that is too risky...if I were to push that a bit I'm in the trees.....

    Hey geezer, enjoyed the video, you are right Siler city looks beautiful. Hope the cicadas are gone by now. I was watching your putting only because I have so much trouble putting myself on most of the holes. It looks like the toe of your putter is raised up. Is that on purpose or just the lie of the club in the way you stand take a look at the pot on number 10 you’ll see what I mean

    • @GeezerTony
      @GeezerTony  7 месяцев назад

      Yes the cicadas are almost all gone now....the toe up is probably because I stand so far from the ball...I think my problem currently is reading the putts. Since I started playing in glasses the green reading has been very poor. I also see I'm letting the putter "unlock" on the follow through so I'kk be aware of that going forward.
