  • Do you own a camper and long for that time of year when you can strap your vehicle to the back of your motorhome and hit the open road? We know exactly how you feel! No matter what type of motor home you have, Class A or Class C, we have a vehicle that will compliment your travels.
So, if you are the traveling motorhome owner that we’re talking about then this how-to video is for you. Watch our product specialist walk you through how to get your new GMC Terrain, Chevy Colorado, or Chevy Silverado ready for a flat tow.
Today we took 3 of our most popular models to demonstrate how these vehicles are perfect for any camping enthusiast. These high demand 4x4 vehicles are able to provide a flat tow capability behind your motor home. In just a few easy steps we will have you ready to get your around town vehicle vacation ready.
One noteworthy detail to make mention is regarding our Colorado and Silverado. These trucks must have the 2 speed transfer case in order for you to put them into neutral. This is one-way new trucks differ from SUVs. In contrast, the Chevy Equinox and GMC Terrain are required to have (AWD) all-wheel drive to utilize the flat tow capability.
Flat towing a truck behind your motorhome as many benefits! It allows for more storage to keep all the things you bring with you on your trips. For instance, that motorcycle, (ATV) all-terrain vehicle or golf cart. Now these items can be stored in the bed of the truck.
Thank you for taking the time to watch and feel free to let us know if you have questions or suggestions for additional how-to videos.
Disclosure: This video is intended to show you how to get transfer cases into neutral not how to attach to motorhome.

How do you put a 2021 Tahoe in neutral tow mode to be towed by a motorhome?

Only dinghy tow four-wheel-drive vehicles with a two speed transfer case that has an N (Neutral) and a 4n setting.
Warning: Shifting a four-wheel-drive vehicle's transfer case into N (Neutral) can cause the vehicle to roll even if the transmission is in P (Park). You or others could be injured. Set the parking brake before shifting the transfer case to N (Neutral).
      To dinghy tow:
Position the vehicle being towed behind the tow vehicle, facing forward and on a level surface.
Securely attach the vehicle being towed to the tow vehicle.
Apply the parking brake and start the engine.
Shift the transfer case to N (Neutral). See “Shifting into N (Neutral)” under Four-Wheel Drive for the proper procedure. Check that the vehicle is in N (Neutral) by shifting the transmission to R (Reverse) and then to D (Drive). There should be no movement of the vehicle while shifting.
Shift the transmission to P (Park).
Caution: Failure to tow the vehicle with the transmission in P (Park) can cause damage to the transmission.
      Turn off the engine.
Place the vehicle in ACC/ACCESSORY mode by pressing the start button without stepping on the brake pedal.
Release the parking brake only when you are confident it is secured to tow vehicle and will not roll.
Before going on to the next step, be sure to take the mechanical key with you. It will be needed to re-enter the vehicle after the power is disconnected. See “Drive Door Key Lock Cylinder Access” under Door Locks.
Disconnect the negative battery cable at the battery and secure the nut and bolt. Cover the negative battery post with a non-conductive material to prevent any contact with the negative battery terminal.
Caution: Failure to disconnect the negative battery cable or to have it contact the terminals can cause damage to the vehicle.
Move the steering wheel to make sure the steering column is unlocked.
Caution: If the steering column is locked, vehicle damage may occur.
Rock the vehicle to make sure the parking brake is not set and transfer case is in N (Neutral).
Caution: Towing the vehicle with the parking brake set can damage it. Always release the parking brake prior to towing the vehicle.
