Fantastic video Martin. A 30 second fix to resolve weeks of misery with soaking wet footwells in both passenger side front and rear due to this constant rain over the last few weeks! The drain was completely blocked up with mulch so now it's gone. Thanks again!
Like to say a massive thank you for your video, I’ve been going crazy on my Vectra for this issue and you’ve done the trick! Completely blocked pollen filter. What a ludicrous design!
Brilliant mate. I've just bought a Vectra same as yours and took it through the car wash today. Then low and behold my front and back passenger carpets soaked. Now I know where to look for the problem. Cool 10/10.
Thank you for showing this. I would never have found the problem. I thought it was door seals too. I found that bung, pulled it out and about a mug full of water drained out. As you say - stupid design. Now sorted. Thanks again
Thanks Martin, my daughter bought a 2005 Vectra in Australia, (rebadged as a Holden over here), and it's been filling up with water recently. I'll give this a go next time I see her. It's still only done 115,000 kilometres so I'm hoping she will upgrade to something more her style and I can inherit the Vectra! With a 3.2 litre and the excellent Blaupunkt stereo for my Pink Floyd, I can't wait! Thanks heaps.
Well done that man. I have had the same problem. Your video, pointed me to the exact same blockage. 5 minutes to fix what was being a big problem. Thank you.
Hi Martin. Just a message to say thank you for the inspiration and taking the time to film your jobs. I bought a cheap gas mig welder and finally attempted a MOT rust repair on my van today. Upside down and with with barely any room certainly makes things harder and more unpleasant! Fingers crossed it passes now! Keep up the good work.
I dropped my car off at the garage this morning to get a new hub put on it. As I was getting out the car, I noticed the passenger footwell flooded (had a lot of rain yesterday). Walked home from the garage and researched it. Watched this video and thought I would check this out when I picked the car up. The amount of water in the bulk head was crazy. When I took the plug out, it was like flushing a toilet. The water just poured out. The plug was full of crap, but it's gone to plug heaven now. Thanks for the vid, it was a great help 👍
Thanks a lot been trying to figure out where the water was coming from for ages, done exactly what u did in this video and right enough mine was chocked so I removed it and the water fell through 👍 thanks again
If you get water on the drivers side, its the gasket between the servo and bulkhead, easy silicone fix, just a pain taking the servo out., Great vids, love watching them, nice one
This is a common fault on a lot of cars not just Vauxhall’s they are a big problem in the B5 Volkswagen Passat, water collects in the same place under the carpet where the curtsey control module (CCM) lives, this causes issues with the alarm in particular. It’s recommended to pull these rubber bungs out on those. Cheers, all the best Steve.
Great video Martin. There must be a drain on the drivers side too. a crazy idea. the water would have been going in behind the pollen filter.Should dry up now lol. Cheers, Jeff.
Hi Martin I had the same issue with a Vectra I used to own there's another one on the driver side of the scuttle you can push it out with a long driver keep the videos coming mate 👍
Similar issue on my MK3 mondeo.the seal behind the pollen filters wilts over time. I cut a plastic bottle in half length ways and this diverted the water away. Think you had a similar thing on your Mondeo estate that you ran. Well dobe on finding the fault, but worth removing the carpets and drying out properly.
This was a common problem with the Passat b5.5 the Pelham drain would block with leaves the drain plugs in car's would then have problems with water in the cabin. Also Mg Rover 75.I also think there may have other car's with the issue. Good video Martin. 👍👍
Martin, that drain part was designed to work both ways. It is supposed to drain and water as it collects from the top, and then stop water coming in when you drive in the rain from coming up through that drain part from the bottom. Like a one way valve. That is why it is tapered like it is. I can see taking it out solving the water from getting in the inside of the vehicle, but then it allows water to come up in as you drive on wet roads as well. Not sure I would want that problem either. Seems there has to be a better design to solve both issues.
@@retrorestore I agree with you Martin. I had exactly the same issue on a B5.5 Passat (2003) and in that case the water in the passenger footwell affected the Control Module (CCM) that controls the Central locking and a number of other items. I also took the rubber valve out and havent had a recurrence of the issue. I dont know what the car makers were thinking of when they were designing this
Had the same thing on a Renault scenic. The drain tubes from the sunroofs had plastic bungs on the drain pipes which got blocked with crap and the water overflowed into the car. Had to use curtain wire to clear them out and removed the bungs.
nice one ! just started having the same problem ! thought id google it and your video was the first one to come up ! ill get out there and sort it tomorrow........ cheers martin ! :)
Had many vectras in the past and currently have a 1.8 model. This is a common problem which also leads to the heater fan bearings to go which in turn bugger up the heating solinode inside the car. I wouldn’t leave the rubber funnel off though as it helps the metal not to rust. It just needs to be cleaned out every year cheers 🍻
Nice quick fix, Id recommend you place 1 or 2 dehumidifier trays with absorbant crystals in the car to absorb any water from the air to prevent mould from forming if the car doesn't get regular use. It wont dry the carpet out but will help stop the car from being wet if that makes sense. Google dehumidifier trays absorb crystals.
Good fix martin i have this job too do but on a 05 vauxhall corsa usual places on the os and ns as both footwells are getting wet now someone has tried too bodge it with clear silicon but did not remove the brake servo or fusebox lid
The same issue can be found on certain Ford models as well Martin, that ends up with the heater fan resistor blowing & only working on speed 4. It's from bad trim seals above the pollen filter, allowing water in.
That’s quiet a bit of water in the foot well, I done exactly the same to mine about 7 years ago but I cut mine so it was a bigger hole, But there not needed, you might be lucky and caught it early without damaging the fan, people under rate these Vectra’s, I think there great cars
This is exactly what happened to me today, found passenger side front and rear footwell soaking wet, checked the drain holes under the wiper motor area and pollen filter side both sides were block up.cleaned out drain plugs and cleaned up the footwell, job sorted but a headache if u don't know.
I’ve got a an issue with mine currently with leaking in passenger side footwell on Astra h, what you shown it doesn’t have it at all on mine, any ideas please
Hello martin ... Thank you very much for the video ... my vectra c is also full of water ... i will check that directly this afternoon. many greetings from germany
@@retrorestore Hi, I found it and the container was actually full to the brim with rainwater ... now the seal is out and the water is gone. now dry the interior. thank you again
I had this issue a three or four years ago. The additional problem that's not immediately apparent is that the water leaks into the car and passes through the heater / cooling fan on the way. The problem I had (and others) is that corrosion occurs in the heater fan bearings which impedes the spin speed of the fan and eventually blows the heater resistor. Because of fan problems (slowing and stopping) and the smell of the burned out resistor, I replaced the resistor around a year ago and following current problems, i'm now replacing both the heater fan and resistor. Having gone through this, I hope it helps someone else.
Thank's for the video i have the same problem in my corsa C only it's the drivers side I thought it was the door seal too, now tomorrow I know where too Look thank's very useful video Liked and subscribed
Hi Martin. I had the same problem with a ford focus 03, but it was leaking through the seal of the plastic trim, bottom of the windscreen straight into the pollen filter, bad design.
I had this problem on passenger side (Steering wheel on left), I cleaned the same rubber and it was sorted. Recently I have drivers side mat all wet.. any ideas what's causing that?
Thanks for the good information I am also having the same car with same problem of water. Will i need to put the new rubber or just need to remove that or leave it without rubbet.
Common problem on BMW's as well. Problem is the design of these rubber things is to allow water to drain but stop engine smalls/fumes getting drawn into the car. I think you need to re-instate it but check it once a year?
Had the same problem with metros, and my pal had the same problem with his Vectra too. With the metros, I ran a plastic bit of pipe from the blower unit down to the ground. Silly designs those rubber grommets are!
Hi Martin I just don't know why they don't make them with a sealed unit there with some run off channels behind the wings for water to run out of. Another great vid again mate
Vectra B drained to the wings. The holes sit deeper than the center, so even if they´re blocked and water accumulates, driving around navigating corners should slam the water through the blockage.
Happens on every vectra c, your pollen filter isn't fitted properly either it should be clipped in on both sides. If you change the pollen filter regularly and clear any muck from the drain underneath it'll do fine, unfortunately the pollen filter seems to get forgotten about by lots of folk. When it starts flooding it eventually blows the resistor for the fan speed control aswell
My only concern about leaving the rubber piece out is that water may splash up there if you hit a puddle and soak the pollen filter. Probably not a major problem, but something to watch out for.
I had it in the Signum earlier in the year also and the filter was soaking , but cause garage made a mistake in ordering they sorted free when they receive it .
