Great review. My poor old iPad is reaching the end of its life and I WAS torn between a replacement and the Surface Go. Having wrestled for years with iOS issues and restrictions and now having seen your review, it will be the Surface Go for me. The large bezel is actually a good thing! Its supposed to b that way because we want to hold it without accidently pressing anything on the touch screen

Hey dan great review of the surface go I really like how you cover all aspects of the device and all your reviews are clean, simple and up to the point. I was really waiting for a real competitor for the ipad pro. I wanted a tablet for web browsing and media consumption but also didn't want to only be limited to a mobile os, now with the surface go it checks all the right boxes with having power of full fledged windows.
Seems like they need a 128GB/Plat Type Cover deal for 599 max. $50 too expensive in my opinion. I just got the Surface Pro Type Cover bundle for 799. That's only $120 more for a system twice as powerful and with a larger screen. Good to hear it's a great product though! That locked 1.6GHz chip probably has a lot of benefits. Can you show videos of how it handles Win10 build 1803 task view? My Surface chugs when I use taskview command.
Eric P do you mean the animation? The animation is pretty awful on high dpi screens. I experience a glitch in the animation on my Surface Laptop, when I click on the task view button
Eric P I bought my surface pro 2017 yesterday. I searched for updates and it only gets windows 10 1709. I don't know if microsoft did something to not let people get the 1803 update anymore until they fix the issues
A very simple tip to know if your device is have problems with 1803 is to check your SSD model. Intel and Microsoft said that 1803 is unstable on Intel 600p and pro6000p
the reason that the Surface Pro 3 only has 256 pressure sensitivity levels is because of them using the N-trig technology instead of the Wacom found on the Surface Go

OMG they really exceeded my expectations for this! This review sold me, and testing the demo in the Store today, it is AWERSOME, especially for the price point. I was worried about this because of my experience with Surface 3, but since I love my SP4 and everything released after that, they REALLY did a stunning job on this. Great job @surface team :)
The resolution is impressive. Hoping for USB slot in the future. Overall the Go is a great product for its price. The drawback is of course memory. Excellent review, Rubino The magnetic stylus of course is also extravagant. Bezel being big is a good touch. 🌝

Is it still worth to get Surface Go in late 2019. There are some good deals on this device. My main concern is that we can see upgrade next year as Intel will stop manufacturing Pentium cpu used in this device next year. Still this device will do everything I need it to do so that's not a deal breaker. Any thoughts?

@@PinePizza My first impression in shop when I saw surface go was - Wow I wasn't expecting something like that. Form factor and quality - wow! It runs ms office especially excel without problem and that's what I'm after. General usage seemed very fluent. Can't say it's underpowered for what it was designed to be and that's a tablet that can replace laptop for basic things. When I'm gonna get mine I will test older games on it. For me windows tablets got much more sense than Android devices and IPad. Only thing that is missing is basic waterproof.

Antonio Lansang yeah is working well, but the software is dying... No more skype, the onedrive and the store as problems. The stereo mics are very good. Unfortunately the surface go as a mono mic.
I'm thinking this will be a great device for my work flow which consists of outlook, excel, word, project and bluebeam. The name "go" is so fitting as that's exactly how I plan on using it, something that is just always in my bag for use when I'm out of the main office away from my desktop. Can't wait to put it to the test when it arrives to see if it'll replace my ultrabook.

Personally, I think its a good marketing strategy. If you just want to use it in tablet mode you can save the money and type on the screen keyboard. It makes it more affordable and gives you options. An iPad is a true tablet and the keyboard is aftermarket as well.

I bought one recently (yes, Go² might be coming soon...but I got the 8gb version with keyboard and mouse for a really low price!) and after switching out from Windows S mode to normal and disabling some unnecessary bloaty stuff that comes with win 10....it feels very good. Working and casual pixel games and whatnot all works like a charm. So even this year you can buy it if you get it on a nice sale (Amazon prime day coming up)
I recently bought a surface go and I'm very happy with it! It's a good device for people on the go or students and for those who just want a small device to use on the go.
Excellent review, only wish the processor was a bit faster like 1.9GHz+. However, I guess Intel does not have anything that fast and affordable enough to place in a $400 device.
Is 10 inch on this tablet too small for a hybrid laptop? I work mainly on Word, Powerpoint, Web and some light Entertainment. Sometime I did some drawings, too.
Wow, I actually prefer this more than the bigger MacBooks or Surface Pro laptops just because of the portability and how easily you can move it around. I wish someday they could get the performance of high end laptops on such a small device like this one, it would make things way way easier or better yet, a top high end gaming PC to fit in a surface go sized device, that would just be a dream come true having everything I need on 1 place would be so so much more convenient and would overall make things WAY easier to manage. I know it's possible but it would probably take some time before they could start making it a reality.

Is that Wi-Fi chip capable of 802.11ax and is it a 2x2? EDIT: Looked at the written and it's the Qualcomm Atheros QCA61x4A, so it's ac@867 Mbps peak but is 2x2.
Surface Go 2 LTE wishlist: - Bluetooth 5.0 - 802.11ax Wireless - 5G Connectivity - Shrinked down bezzels so maybe they can achieve 11-inch size and look sexier - Faster CPU - Better Battery Life Overall a really great device, but just the 130$ dollars for that Keyboard is a bit too much, considering the fact that i would've wanted to get the Pen as well with it.

Now have my own Surface Go and I can say that Chrome is laggy as sheit compared to Edge. Trying to convert over to Edge. Using the 8 GB ram edition.

Kangyang Chen it might be on a system to system basis, my aero 15x has no problems with 1803

You could buy a mechanical backlit keyboard for less.

Excellent review, only wish the processor was a bit faster like 1.9GHz+. However, I guess Intel does not have anything that fast and affordable enough to place in a $400 device.
Is 10 inch on this tablet too small for a hybrid laptop? I work mainly on Word, Powerpoint, Web and some light Entertainment. Sometime I did some drawings, too.
Wow, I actually prefer this more than the bigger MacBooks or Surface Pro laptops just because of the portability and how easily you can move it around. I wish someday they could get the performance of high end laptops on such a small device like this one, it would make things way way easier or better yet, a top high end gaming PC to fit in a surface go sized device, that would just be a dream come true having everything I need on 1 place would be so so much more convenient and would overall make things WAY easier to manage. I know it's possible but it would probably take some time before they could start making it a reality.

How does this compare with the 10 inch Samsung Gakaxy book? By the time you add in the keyboard and pen the prices become quite close

Could u compare surface go with Samsung Galaxy tab s4 which comes with a stylus included in the box as it's priced almost the same if u consider the price of surface go + pen .

Is that Wi-Fi chip capable of 802.11ax and is it a 2x2?
EDIT: Looked at the written and it's the Qualcomm Atheros QCA61x4A, so it's ac@867 Mbps peak but is 2x2.

Surface Go 2 LTE wishlist:
- Bluetooth 5.0
- 802.11ax Wireless
- 5G Connectivity
- Shrinked down bezzels so maybe they can achieve 11-inch size and look sexier
- Faster CPU
- Better Battery Life
Overall a really great device, but just the 130$ dollars for that Keyboard is a bit too much, considering the fact that i would've wanted to get the Pen as well with it.
Why do you keep comparing it to the surface3?.....thats a Cpl of gens old....I should hope it out performs that.

Turbo Boost may actually increase battery life since it would help the computer finish tasks faster and thus enable the CPU to go into deep sleep mode earlier
