Great knife! I have the 7 inch model. My first one snapped while in use. I called taylor brands and explained what happened. They admitted a bad batch of steel was used on a run. They automatically 3 day priority mailed me a new knife so I would not have anymore down time than needed. Sent the broken knife in and they sent me another knife for the issues. So they stand by the products 110%! I was shocked to see a review about them here. Its honestly the best bang ( or slice ) for the buck. You cannot go wrong!!! Thanks for the awesome / honest review.
Totally agree. These knives are the best value in the knife world. Work hard, made well, and are dirt cheep. If you want to hit the easy button, just buy these Schrades... then let me build a sheath for you!
I love seeing these reviews of knife brands not typically considered "cool". I find myself falling into the trap of avoiding brands like Schrade, but Nutn always sets me right! Awesome review. Super down to earth. Keep it up!
Tanner W. try some schrade fixed blades. They'll surprise you. The smaller size ones that come with the kydex sheaths will shock you. The folder are less than impressive but I can vouch for the fixed blades
We carry this brand at Autozone. I've gotten a couple of their pocket knives and they all seem the same as this. They're a little heavy but good quality for the price. Great video Nutn!
For $46 bucks it's a no brainer!!! Who is going to just leave a $200 knife sitting in a bug out bag "just in case". This knife is perfect for that. Great review!
Most days in life are very good. When Nutnfancy drops two or three new videos, it is going to be a great day. Thank you for the continued time, effort and dedication.
Awesome to see you review this! Tough blade and big enough to do some good sized tasks. I love my SCHF52 and my Jessica-X, if you ever get a chance to review that.
So on those tops sheaths I've found putting a small bungee cord on the top of the sheath works great for normal retention. It's not solid, but great for camp.
love the schrade 1095 knives. I have most of their sizes and find the schf 56 a great 3 .5 inch blade around a campfire. They all just feel good with a bit of weight.
Nutn, I personally love the large survival knife reviews! I wish you'd do more of them, but I understand you have other time commitments and other viewers to show other things to. But please don't think we don't use our large knives anymore! I'm constantly searching, collecting, swapping out my gear, so keep the KRV's coming!
I love the KRV's. I was not a knife guy before watching TNP. I have a sizable collection now, mostly Cold Steel. By the way, thank you very much for mentioning the watch you are wearing. those Casio Pro-Treks are nice.
Your knife appears to actually be the SCHF52M, not the SCHF52. The difference is the handle scales. the SCHF52 has TPE handles, the SCHF52M has Micarta handle scales. I agree with you, the Micarta is much better.
I have the SCHF 52 with the TPE handles and I have to say that I love this knife! The only con to the handle(this may be due to poor technique on my part) is that it started to chip on my knife when I started batoning close to the handle. I don't know if that is because I don't know how to baton well, but it was a fat log and I couldn't hit the knife any close to the blade. Great review, Schrades deserve lots of love. The ferro rod is also awesome, it throws sparks really easily and only costs about $6-$7 dollars when purchased individually.
Thanks Nutn! Been looking for a economical survival knife for my Son... On an off note, I've been using my EDC Streamlight to read bedtime stories to the kiddos at night. They love it!
i bought the older version on sale at bladehq in Lehi for under $30 after tax and I love it. I do wish I had the newer style g10 enlarged handle though because the handle on rhe old version has jimping where your ring and pinky fingers grip which makes a bad hot spot when you use the knife. the newer handle looks WAY more comfortable to use.
I've gone to a combination carry. Cold Steel Gurhka kukri, Esee venom 6, and a small Swiss army knife with a saw. The kukri is perfect for clearing trail, camp sites, harvesting small limbs for fish trap and traps in general, and great for cutting 4inch poles. The Esee 6 is great for all knife carving projects such as traps and skinning and isn't overly heavy. Yet it's still large enough to use as a weapon. The Swiss army knife is great for fine work and the saw is a must have.
I have the 51, the smaller version. So long as you aren't doing any fine carving, it's quite good. Sheath does suck though. I recommend the TPE handles for lower price, and the scales don't cover the jimping on the top, which should have been noted. Also those are Micarta, not G-10, hence the M at the end of the name. The standard models with TPE handles have no M.
I have a schrade schf28 and that knife is a beast, beautiful recurve and was about 54$ I think with shipping. I use it for everything. Part of my edc and use it in landscaping and my excursions into my desert or up in the woods.
I think this is the first time I've ever owned an item you've reviewed BEFORE you review it. Picked up the previous gen at a gun show for $40 a few months back.
I have the 32 and loved it until handling the 52. That handle/grip changes everything. The 52 is so much easier to handle. But for the money, I didnt hesitate to beat the hell out of my 32 and it has held up great. I did strip the coating off, thinking to cerakote it soon. but not sure.
I 2nd that... I bought a Schrade knife a few years ago for backpacking... watched your RTAK-II review bought it, replacing the Schrade... I went car camping and brought both knives with, So I did a nutnfancy review of my own... The Schrade was effortless/ no joke
I LOVE THIS KNIFE! I like the shape of it. It looks solid. I really like the sharp tip. The size of the knife is just right. Thanks for this fantastic prize! Hopefully I can pull off a win and build up my collection.
With Taylor Made (Smith & Wesson) buying Schrade, it will be interesting to see if the S&W knives get any better than they have been. I'm not into Schrade, but I'm glad they offer a budget blade that isn't junk, despite that being due to outsourcing for cheap labor. Edit: Actually saw 'Taylor Brands' on the box you pulled out. They must already have started making changes, hence the different grip on that other one.
Good review. My wife bough me one of the SCHF 36 for about $40 last year and believe it or not I broke the darn thing while battening it through a tree limb. It cracked right where the front bolt on the scales was. For $40 I'm grabbing the SCHF37 next.
I have been using the SCHF9 for years. I bought it for the price at the time ($32), it has held up to untold amounts of beating on it and has a great Mandalorian look to it as the coating has been abused. For the money I don't really have a complaint about any of the Schrade survival knives.
Super cool, thank you. I have a Schrade fixed blade similar to yours, but exact same sheath. I found that normal sized Altoids cans do not fit in mine; however SNUS tobacco tins have a nice rubber/water resistant seal and it holds a good amount of light weight survival tools/fishing/firestarting/medical what have you. Keep up the good work sir.
I think I have something to add to my Christmas list. I've been looking for a larger survival knife i can afford to leave in my get home bag. thanks for a great review Nutnfancy!
I got a schrade carbon steel knife with military logo on it 20.00 at cdnn. Like so much got two more. Discontinued. About 5 inch blades one in tanto.my favorites and have some checkers to Thanks
I've got the smaller one schf51 I think. And it's just as good and as tough as the bk2 plus the cheap nylon sheath doesn't dull the blade like the old plastic kabar bk2 sheath does. My only gripe is the choil eats up some edge length but hell its a great blade
Dear Lt.col nutnfancy. I've been a big fan of your RUclips channel sense 2009, when I stumbled upon it while I was in Iraq. I love what you do, and respect the fact that you are honest and unbiased. I'd like to see a review of the Tom Brown tracker. I want to find out if it is worth the 300 dollar or so. or if there are other cheaper options out there. you're humble fan Paul May
On the subject of SS knifes chipping I had one good brand SS folding knife the blade started to come apart it delaminates like the blade was poorly welder/forged. I also have a Randell divers knife I had used it as a camp knife for years It has served as a kitchen knife at scout camp it didn't do a good job cutting potatoes but did better cutting frozen sausage I do like the extra weight for chopping but I found that the thickness of blade causes it to be a less then optimal for cutting in a cooking . The blade seems to want to rush food when cutting it even with tha ultra sharp blade.
"do you still use your large survival blades?" I carry gentleman's folders top slice apples and open amazon boxes. My Large blades are rusting from disuse. We need a "normal guy EDC" video from nutn. Minimal carry for non-tactical use!
Tactical Patriot2000 its all preference no doubt. I have it. The handle was a fail for me personally. Its way overdone in my use. and caused a lot of hand fatigue from long use. I didnt like anything about it. Almost like they tried too hard. I know some guys love it though so rock on if you do!
pinkiewerewolf I didnt know the story behind it until after i bought it and already made up my mind. The back story and designer was the icing on the cake of pure pompousness.
Nice video bro you referred the new generation schf52m as having g10 handle it has micarta handles I do own one but mine has the black tpe handle great knife for the money hasn't failed me yet again great video
use the biggest one out in the forest. don't need an axe when i have it with me. got it supersharpend from a knife-sharpener. love it. realy robust for its price!
Funny, I recently posted a comment on your P938 review video asking if the gun was still in the project and if you still felt the same about it. I see it playing a nice cameo roll here, I assume that's a good sign!
Good video. I got the 37M. the M in the name stands for Micarta which is what the scales are made of. Heard you call them G-10. Lol. Mine came with 8cr13mov steel. Picking up the new one soon. This one has served me well tho. Great knife for the money. Take Care and Be Aware.
This is the survival knife I buy. own several. There's a different handle materials too - you can get the same blade with different scales for as low as $32. The weight isn't some kind of black magic either - it's freaking FAT. It's thicker and that makes it tough. The weight also includes the fire steel and sharpener! It's a chopper and survival knife, pure and simple.
i like my scrade scbolo, although its actually a barong. 14 inch blade great chopper, batons okay for being an 8th of an inch thick. the steel isnt the best but for 70 bucks ( canadian) i thought it was a great price, also comes with the fire steel and sharpener, which work well in my opinion.
You gave us a peek at some pellet rifles years ago when is the reviews coming? I got a Benjamin piston break barrel and a Gammo break barrel with a spring mechanism and I like both. I think they are a good option for pests, training and they are economical. I am not complaining I love your stuff and am a very early subscriber just showing some interest.
Thanks for the info. I did lose zero on the Gammo. I thought it was the scope and got a new one. I have been pricing some higher end guns but reluctant to pull the trigger. I have not shot mine very much maybe a couple hundred rounds through both. I got them for about $150 each What do you think about the pump guns I had good luck with a Sheridan .20 cal for many years, as a youth I had an early Crossman 760 Powermaster that was a step up from my Daisy BB guns but the current ones are not the same. I would like to have a pump gun so I can have the option to pump it up a couple of times to sting a pest rather than make penetration and recently bought a pump pistol but I am not impressed with the accuracy or quality.
hey, this is unrelated to the knife but i just wanted to throw some food for thought at you for future fun. Have you participated in any mud runs? They are alot of fun and it really shows you what kind of shape you are in. Recently a couple friends and I talked to a local (to me) farm owner who puts on a few 5 k mud runs a year. I spotted him while i was attending one of the events and he was sporting some N.R.A. gear. We got to talking and he invited me and a few friends out to run the course in full 2 gun gear. 5k 6 walls of a variety of height and angle. several crawl under or through obstacles. a large cargo net cross. And alot of wading in up to chest deep water. immediately after we drove to the range and shot to test our firearms for malfunctions. it was ALOT of fun and really made all of us rethink our gear. definitely an awesome experience and if you get the chance to do it you should. not sure what kind of support your local area has for mud run events. I love your channel and you do some of the best gear reviews out there. have a goodone and keep up the good work!
Definitely a great blade for a great price! By the way, have you ever reviewed any of the removable blade folders for EDC? I happen to really like mine, not really for woods use as it isn't built for that but for day to day tasks it is great and zero maintenance by having a replaceable edge. Also they are razor sharp and my model offers a steel backer spine so it is plenty suitable as a defensive/tactical folder as well. It's edge will open just about anything nice and deep. Just throwing that out there. I believe the first one I bought was from OutDoor Edge and that was under $40 and then I upgraded to a slightly more expensive/durable model but there are many out there.
Where was this one made? I've carried Schrade pocket knives for many many years (I'm old). However, a decade or so ago, the American pocket knife manufacturers like Schrade and Old Timer went bust. Someone bought the name rights and, you guessed it, moved production to China. Schrade was one of those. I've seen some production come back to the US,, which is a good thing. The steel in the older knives was a bit softer and could be easily sharpened. Standard sharpening stones worked very well. Once they moved to China, the steel changed to something incredibly hard. My stones didn't work any more, and I had to invest in diamond sharpeners. Can you use stones, or are diamonds required? Looks like a good knife regardless where it was made.
There must be some folders out there, which catch your interest right now. How about you try to find the "perfect" Nutn survival folder? The great thing about fixed blade is, you can find one, and it'll just last forever, pass on to kids stuff. A folder needs more including 2nd kinda cool.
Thanks for the awesome / honest review.
i have schf 52!!!
I started my first knife Ferro Rod fire with this. I love this life
Solid for the $ indeed
This knife rocks for $35. Heck neven for $80 it's still pretty good. Good job Schrade. -nutnfancy
nutnfancy i never see you reviewing CRKT knives
Ray Creevy I'd also like to see crkt reviews
nutnfancy Same, CRKTs are quite interesting. You've done some but not much lately.
It's about time you did a Schrade review Nutn!
Totally agree. These knives are the best value in the knife world. Work hard, made well, and are dirt cheep. If you want to hit the easy button, just buy these Schrades... then let me build a sheath for you!

Thank you and I agree, the blade is excellent. Get the G10 version. -nutnfancy
nutnfancy the handle is micarta not g10 I believe
The handle material is Micarta not G10 and as you said is easy to shape to your hand.
Got the previous version as a gift last Christmas and made it my truck knife. Love it!
Most days in life are very good. When Nutnfancy drops two or three new videos, it is going to be a great day. Thank you for the continued time, effort and dedication.

I would absolutely love to add one of these to my collection!
I was super excited to see Nutnfancy review this blade!!!😊

But please don't think we don't use our large knives anymore! I'm constantly searching, collecting, swapping out my gear, so keep the KRV's coming!
I bought a Schrade SCHF26 a few years ago for $26. Well build knife that I’ve beat up pretty good and it still looks almost new.
Still got my Ontario Marine Raider, I've beaten on that thing since 2011 or so and love it so freaking much! That thing takes just keeps on going man!
I love the KRV's. I was not a knife guy before watching TNP. I have a sizable collection now, mostly Cold Steel. By the way, thank you very much for mentioning the watch you are wearing. those Casio Pro-Treks are nice.

These knives are great. Get something fancy for your main knife and get a couple like this for beaters/loaners/bag knives
This knife looks like something I need in my collection. Awesome video as always, Nutn!
I have the SCHF 52 with the TPE handles and I have to say that I love this knife! The only con to the handle(this may be due to poor technique on my part) is that it started to chip on my knife when I started batoning close to the handle. The Schrade ferro rods are excellent and Amazon sells them for $6.00!
You weren't kidding when you said you beat it up. Nice to see it held up. Schrade kicks ass for the price point.
Yet it's still large enough to use as a weapon.

this series has impressed me but honestly I was waiting on your review before pulling the trigger on a few
This is the one I want, the 52M with the micarta handles has been on my short list for quite awhile.
It's a micarta handle (schf52m), there is also a black g10 handle (schf52)
I have the 32 and loved it until handling the 52. That handle/grip changes everything. The 52 is so much easier to handle. But for the money, I didnt hesitate to beat the hell out of my 32 and it has held up great. I did strip the coating off, thinking to cerakote it soon. but not sure.
have this one, badass! only issue i had was the on-blade finger spot was cutting me. rounded that little corner where the edge ends and it's great now
I 2nd that...
This is the essence of TNP. Great gear at great prices! Tanks Nutn', knife in the shopping cart because of this vid!
nice, @nutn finally reviewing a schrade knife. I vote for more big blade vids nutn!
I think it's a great choice regardless of price, if you can handle the weight as you said. These are tough. I have the SCHF 37, btw.
Also the ferro rods are really good. On par with light my fire rods.
I have a couple of Schrade knives, one I keep right next to my pistol on my nightstand. Good quality for the price!
Best deal in fixed blades right now. I have an 9 and a 10. I like that one because it's not a recurve. Those micarta grips are awesome and look proper
I have one in my BOB. Performed well when I tested it.
I think I have something to add to my Christmas list. I've been looking for a larger survival knife i can afford to leave in my get home bag. thanks for a great review Nutnfancy!
I have the schf -51 with the rubber handle works great hold up to to everyday use
I would have never thought of Nutn approving Schrade knives. Well done man
wheres the wood testing footage nutn?
Great knife for the price. Sharpens well and holds an edge.
i got s schf36 for 22 dollars. cant beat that
Interesting - with the amount of Schrade reviews out there I bet that there were a ton of free knives given away for good reviews. I'm glad you waited
I got a schrade carbon steel knife with military logo on it 20.00 at cdnn. Like so much got two more.
Discontinued. About 5 inch blades one in tanto.my favorites and have some checkers to
Thanks
I got can't get away from Esee. For some reason I try all the new blades that come out but always seem to find my way back to esee
love the functionality of this blade
I'd like to see a reveiw of the SCHF29 it's got a secound kind of cool factor to me.
I've got the smaller one schf51 I think. And it's just as good and as tough as the bk2 plus the cheap nylon sheath doesn't dull the blade like the old plastic kabar bk2 sheath does. My only gripe is the choil eats up some edge length but hell its a great blade
Can't beat a classic Kephart style knife for bushcraft!!
cool knife Nutn, love your knife reviews. short and too the point. good job
TNP nation needs more feature length folder review, you know like in the old days in 08-09 from mainstream makers.
Dear Lt.col nutnfancy. I've been a big fan of your RUclips channel sense 2009, when I stumbled upon it while I was in Iraq. I love what you do, and respect the fact that you are honest and unbiased. I'd like to see a review of the Tom Brown tracker. I want to find out if it is worth the 300 dollar or so. or if there are other cheaper options out there.
you're humble fan Paul May
2 nutn uploads in one day??? What did we do to deserve this!!! :D
On the subject of SS knifes chipping I had one good brand SS folding knife the blade started to come apart it delaminates like the blade was poorly welder/forged.

do a review on "Live free armory" either ar15 or ar10. a ruger enginer left the company and started his own.. they look awesome
Please review the schrade Jessica X
Tactical Patriot2000 nooooo omg no
Jimmy Kimber it's a great knife
Tactical Patriot2000 its all preference no doubt. I have it. The handle was a fail for me personally. Its way overdone in my use. and caused a lot of hand fatigue from long use. I didnt like anything about it. Almost like they tried too hard. I know some guys love it though so rock on if you do!
Just can't see buying any tool named Jessica.
pinkiewerewolf I didnt know the story behind it until after i bought it and already made up my mind. The back story and designer was the icing on the cake of pure pompousness.
good review, I would have liked to see more of the use video footage, other than digging in the dirt, but the information is good to have. thanks
So good to see a big knife review.
Funny, I recently posted a comment on your P938 review video asking if the gun was still in the project and if you still felt the same about it. I see it playing a nice cameo roll here, I assume that's a good sign!
Was the test only sticking the knife in the dirt ?
Would love to see a review on the aqua salt.
Good video. I got the 37M. the M in the name stands for Micarta which is what the scales are made of. Heard you call them G-10. Lol. Mine came with 8cr13mov steel. Picking up the new one soon. This one has served me well tho. Great knife for the money. Take Care and Be Aware.
Great video, love it for the value! Still swinging the Silky Nata, might have to get another one soon.
Heavy duty nice looking knife. Like the ammo bag too!
You should do a review on the Buck MWG as a survival/tactical blade.
You should do a comparison test on that Cold Steel kukri of yours verse the New Shrade bolo knife machete.
Nice job on the sync'd second hands....
BTI Tools (Smith&Wesson) owns Schrade and sister companies now.
FreewolfA5 S&W knives are pure garbage.
You gave us a peek at some pellet rifles years ago when is the reviews coming? I got a Benjamin piston break barrel and a Gammo break barrel with a spring mechanism and I like both.
Nice looking knife, I like it and it doesn't cost arm and leg.
I have many large fixed blades in my collection that you are partially to blame for. BRING BACK THE BIG BLADE REVIEWS!!!
hey, this is unrelated to the knife but i just wanted to throw some food for thought at you for future fun.
For a heavy-duty mid-sized knife under $50.00, I'm impressed. I never thought I'd say that about Taylor products. lol
everytime i see there is a new knife review out my heart makes a little jump :D wish they would come more often :/
greetings from germany
Can you show me the midsize huge thing again?
love the scales on that knife I want one
I use these blades for wood processing, I would like Busse & Bussekin but would never use anything at that pricepoint.
Damn so far my fave knife has that old school look to it
great review i own the schf37 and the schf43 or jessica x its a monster batonning knife actually any of the schf series are great
Where was this one made?
Looks like a good knife regardless where it was made.
still have my hoodlum thanks nutn!
There must be some folders out there, which catch your interest right now. How about you try to find the "perfect" Nutn survival folder? The great thing about fixed blade is, you can find one, and it'll just last forever, pass on to kids stuff. A folder needs more including 2nd kinda cool.
Great review I love it.This would be the perfect knife to add to my gear. Can't beat the price either.
