I think it's the relationship of how they started and they didn't expect it to end up like that. And they tell themselves they can't leave or things are going to get better someday. It's just hard to let some people go.

When youre young and you have a shitty relationship/bond with your parent, your brain actually repurposes those parental attachment neural pathways for adult relationships. So you cant help but gravitate towards shitty people and relationships. If youre introspective and self aware, you can absolutely break out of it, but like changing a "habit" youve done for 20 years, it takes a lot of work. A lot of people can't break through the "have self awareness" part though
