    My 66 Chevy C20 had a dark fawn dash ( flat with texture) which they don’t make anymore, I sprayed with krylon otter brown satin, then sanded the gloss off & sprayed clear matte on. All with rattle cans it came out perfect.

    I sell PPG paint every day and educate some of our customers on what to do. NEVER touch the base coat after painting it unless you have a run, bug, etc. then you must recoat with the base coat before appling the clear. PPG suggests 20 minutes up to 24 hours to apply the clear. Apply the clear as soon as you can so dirt and bugs don't invade your space. Nice job with the spray max cans.

    Nice tips. hoods/fenders/doors can be removed in parts to spray more completely and facing the sun in low wind/humidity but high temp conditions. Some more direct UV light can reduce the cure times depending on the paint. Light even coats with some even cure time in between can lead to a better finish overall with less sanding. Also important but maybe not emphasized is the use of proper PPE, metallic and silicone bits can really tear up your lungs, do the research before attempting a DIY job in the backyard.

    Nice.
    Now, to be fair Sir, you did this with spray cans, in a driveway, and it looks FAR better than it did when you started..... I think it looks pretty good....
    So don't take this the wrong way, but... I think pulling off the hood, and putting it on some padded sawhorses would help A LOT. It would get it inside, AND you could walk ALL THE WAY AROUND IT while spraying.... I feel like, in the background of your shots, the worst errors are up by where the hood meets the cowl windshield area...
    And I've had pretty good luck just doing a quick little shot of spraypaint on the hood latches, and then take them off.... When you put them back on, it's pretty easy to see EXACTLY where it was....
    But really, these are nitpicky little differences of opinion... It looks 98% better than it did with the clear peeling off..... No doubt, it's presentable now....
    When I do this kind of thing, I mean yes, it is hot where you are... but the discharge cools the cans... I keep a bucket of hot water right there, and I keep dunking & reshaking the can.... The can has to stay WARM... You'll see a better result... Uhhh, but be careful, 1 drop of water will ruin the whole job, so... Dry off that can before you spray more.... The warmth allows a better mix in the can, and it will increase the pressure the propellant in the can is providing, which are both good things....

      I'd grab a fender or something from a junk yard and practice on it first, but yes you can sand the clear coat and apply a new coat but do your homework first. Easy to mess up.

      I'm thinking of doing the same thing. I don't care about the esthetics, different colors due to paint fade due to clear coat peeling.
      Thought is to sand it then spray it with clear coat just to get the protection back. And streaks or fade doesn't look anywhere near as bad as a 2005 hyundai santa fe with peel on every single panel.

    My question is, why bother with spray cans? You have a large well equipped shop, your a pretty smart and knowledgeable guy. Surely you can use an HVLP gun. You'd save a bunch of money and do a much better job over using spray cans.

      @@myRatchetsThank you for responding. I've been subscribed to this channel for a long time, and I rarely miss your videos. This is the first time I have encountered this to this degree. It started with a very long ad for a gun holster, which is about as far from my realm of interest as it gets; and was followed by some sort of video device, I didn't watch either ad and muted them until they were over. I don't know what RUclips is doing, but it's a pretty rotten thing, especially if you didn't consent to it, and you're not getting paid for launching their very long commercials. I have encountered this type of ad before, but they were usually only a minute or so. These two together came to roughly ten minutes. I'd be surprised if I'm the only one who has experienced this, but I'm a blabber-mouth when most people just shut up and live with it. I just got home from work and have my microwaved left-overs sitting on my desk. I'm going to try to watch this video now before I pass out. I've always learned from your videos.

      Hi Thomas. In your opinion what is a reasonable duration of ads for this nine-minute video?

    • @thomasgartman4025
      @thomasgartman4025 8 месяцев назад

      @@Cockerham I feel pretty sure the ads shouldn't run longer than the video itself. I don't really have a problem with the length of the ads, if I can skip an ad that is meaningless to me. Each of the two ads I was force-fed were just short of four minutes. If they were a minute or so each, I wouldn't whine, but I've never encountered an un-skippable ad combo punch that was longer than the video I wanted to watch. I don't understand why this is even a subject of debate. Back when I had television, a one-hour program had about fifteen minutes of advertising; a half-hour slot had seven or eight minutes. By that measure, a nine minute presentation shouldn't have more than about two and a quarter minutes. If I were about to sit down to my favorite one-hour tv show and was hit with an hour of advertising before or during the show, I'd walk away. So would a lot of folks.
