  • A Toyota Master Diagnostic Technician reviews the 2021 Toyota Venza Hybrid in a different way. Technical information, new features and more.
    In this video I premiere the first new model review on the channel. I usually don't like when car journalists bash great reliable sensible Toyota cars.
    In this review we get straight to the point on this 2021 Venza Hybrid. I go over the engine and the hybrid system information. Give you a tour of what's under the hood.
    I also show you the new lithium ion hybrid battery. I also show you the spare tire which is now an alloy wheel. Also show you the location of the 12V battery and the jump start terminals under the hood.
    I also cover some of the things I like about this Venza hybrid. And some things I don't like. And my overall opinion of the car.

    We have owned an XSE RAV 4 , Now we own a Venza Limited, I would say the RAV4 was no quieter than the Venza , we think they are both good SUV’s in their own right , but we got tired of the fuel tank issue in the RAV4 , we never really knew what economy we had , we knew it was in the mid 40s probably 45 mpg or more ; we’re expecting the same with Venza , great vehicle, but annoying to have to put up with it ; we’ve only had the Venza a short while , our first impressions we think it’s more refined ride quality wise and interior wise has some nice fit and finishes. For the money it’s very good value , we’ve had a number of Lexus RX350 , they are quiet and refined but no where as good on gas consumption unless you pay for the expensive hybrid version, , but we think the Venza is hard to beat , probably $25 k cheaper than the Lexus . We also have the wonderful Avalon hybrid incidentally gets regular 60 mpg summer , cooler weather 50mpg plus , which is quieter because of the double glass used ; if Toyota put the double glass in all their hybrids it would make a difference driving highway . All in all these hybrids are excellent. Which ever one takes your fancy you should enjoy the ride , test drive every one till your satisfied which works for you personally, we test drove all including the highlander hybrid , we think Toyota is doing a great job .

    I bought the Venza XLE over the RAV4 because it is a quiet smooth ride comparatively and I’m enjoying the way it drives. My complaints are miner and the same as most video reviews I’ve seen: I wish it had more storage compartment areas in the front cabin, the rear turn signals should be placed higher for safety, and the glossy black touch pad only controls are not convenient for keeping your eyes on the road.

    I own this car and just love it; it is the nicest car I have ever owned. Came from a Kia sole which was cheap and looked like it. So, I have not really noticed road noise since the kia was very noisy. I really like the way it steers, and it is so comfortable. I cannot really say this is a deficit, but the car can be distracting there is so much you can look at on the screen and the console you must have some discipline to keep your eyes on the road and not be playing with all the settings. One other thing that lots of cars with large screens have is the design of the screen it looks like it was just stuck on the dash as an afterthought. I hope to keep it for a long time if I don’t wrap it around a tree looking at the performance data. Thanks for another excellent video I have learned so much about my car from you.

      I also own a 2021 venza as well, and so far I love it! It drives so smooth and it gets up and goes if you step on it, and with the noise, I personally don't think it's bad, even when driving with the radio off, it isn't any worse than any other car like a ford, Honda, etc. Already took it on some road trips, and each time the road noise wasn't bad at all! I personally love the noise that the electric motor makes when you put it in reverse, it sound like a space ship and definitely put a confused look on some peoples faces 😂

It's a very classy, green grocery getter, kayak hauler, that impresses the tough to please, newly empty nested, menopausal ex-soccer mom... Priceless! I’ve owned this car for 3 months now..this is a great car, I agree with you that it is a little loud..the remedy for me was to put new Michelin tires on the vehicle..the stock tires were the Bridgestone… I sold them to recoup some of the cost. I thought I was the only one that thought that the start button was in the wrong spot…also the cup holder is in a terrible spot…if you put a cup in the holder..it makes it an inconvenience to get to the gear selector…maybe you can show that one of your videos…there are some other things that bother me but those are the biggest ones…over all still a great car…just wish the engineers would take the time and sit in a car and try to use the things they put in a vehicle..

      @jiayaw Месяц назад

      I think with the cup holders, because this is actually a car designed for Asian market, they don't have the large drinks we have in North america. With a small cup, it didn't hinder the gear shifter column haha

    "Sensible" is one word almost no YT car reviewer ever uses and one wonders why that is. After watching so many (too many) glowing 5-star reviews of a press vehicle, the typical influencer - after having spent at least 20 minutes driving said vehicle on a pre-programmed route and another hour shooting drone footage and B-roll - sets about gushing how super-delighted their driving experience was while mindlessly parroting the press releases handed to them. Understandably, we all got bills to pay so they're incentivized to kowtow to the manufacturers but many reviews come off sounding like infomercials vetted by their brand's marketing team when a typical consumer just wants some even-handed analysis. And then there's you, just some guy forming objective opinions based on technical knowledge from years in the trenches. Subscribed.

    What a refreshing technical car review, much appreciated.
    Just got one in Limited trim, so far so good. Coming from a 2011 RX350, the tech upgrades are making driving a world of difference. Would have continued with the RX lineage if Lexus didn’t keep fattening up the exterior dimensions of the RX year after year. Coincidentally, the Venza is exactly 1 inch shorter and narrower per paper specs than the 2011 RX, which to us feels like it’s the spiritual successor to the old RX gen.
    The amount of effort Toyota went to sound deaden the Limited trim has me convinced it might be the quietest car we’ve owned yet. I mean instead of a hook on the underside of the trunk floorboard to help hold the board flap up when opened, there’s sound deadening material instead to block road noise coming up from the spare wheel compartment. Well done Toyota, no details spared.

    Brought new 2021 XLE hybrid in to the dealer for the large amount water found on the front passenger side floor. A week before I had driven 400 miles in a day in very very heavy rain most of the way.
    Picked up my car after a few days & after inspecting the carpet, it was still very wet. I pulled the carpet back which the shop didn't do & found several quarts of water.
    I was assured that the wet carpet would not be a problem after a few days with a small fan on it. I shop vacced the padding layers again which were still sopping wet. I sucked up another 2 or more quarts of water. I have lingering doubts about the leak source being the AC.
    When the wet carpet was first inspected, it was odd that the carpet going up the firewall was not wet, just the floor pan area and no drippage appeared from above. The AC drain tube exiting under the vehicle seems like a very loose grommet fitting. The service tech was looking for the most common leak from above AC components which may not be the case. Also a missing black plug in the footwell that dealer said not to cover.
    I am dreading the next long drive especially in the rain. The drain connection in the footwell was in place & not kicked off. After watching a few RUclips videos of which there are many, Toyota has had a regular wet carpet problem This is not new to Toyota (past leak recalls) & there are several other causes. Most often it's claimed to be a plugged AC drain tube. Compressed air is usually blown into the tube to loosen the blockage (spider webs, mold, etc) but this process doesn't remove the solids, it pushes it upstream to cause the issue again down the road.
    I'd like to see an indicator or water level warning. Or a method to capture the overflow & divert it elsewhere besides the foot well if it is the AC drain.
    Warranty does not cover carpeting or interior water damage. That would be an insurance claim.
    Any thoughts appreciated.

There are many people who could be thinking of choosing between the two. Which one would be a better choice in terms of reliability, practicality, resale value after a few years, type of the applied hybrid battery (Li or NiMH), engine and etc? Which one would you choose?

    One major issue: the RAV4 Hybrid is rated to tow 1,750 pounds, yet Toyota does not recommend or rate the new Venza for towing. I don't understand that. I'm disappointed about the road noise issue; you would think that for a more upscale version of the RAV4, you'd think they would put a bit more into soundproofing materials.

    Thank you for the great video. I would like to ask whether it is possible to tweak the hybrid system to have some more horsepower in this Venza? Or in general is it possible to tweak these hybrid systems? I think the same setup in Highlander does a tad more 243 PS instead of "just" 219 PS. Maybe this hybrid system would be capable of doing safely even around 260-280 PS with some ECU software optimization. Thanks!

    At 7:06, I wish all Toyotas have that shut and lock feature. Seems obvious to me. It’s the reason why I don’t use the button to shut my trunk. I’m too impatient to wait for it to shut so I can lock it. It’s faster for me to shut it manually and lock it.

    Interesting to hear it doesn't ride as quietly. I was thinking it would be more refined than the Rav4. I think the Rav4 hybrid is a more attractive option in this case for most people.

      I thought the same. This one on the inside feels more classic. I think it’s a very nice car equally nice to the RAV4. Just gives folks variance in looks.

    • @MrMoviePhoneEx
      @MrMoviePhoneEx 3 года назад +1

      It definitely rides quieter than the RAV4, but that’s not to say it rides super quiet. Toyota basically put extra patches of insulation all over the place to dampen things down and honestly it’s a pretty happy medium option. I just bought one and I came from a much older Matrix - worlds difference in road noise :) that said I have no issues with phone calls, music, or person to person conversation even on the freeway in the Venza. I did note during my test drive that it was louder than expected given the price point, but it’s still a big step up from what I’m used to. I drove the Venza and RAV4 hybrid pretty competitively for about a day, and without a doubt, the RAV4 was more “airy” still better than my old matrix, but you can really tell the difference with those added dampeners on the Venza - makes the whole cabin feel more dense, like it absorbs more sounds while the Rav reflects more - not sure if a different trim package would change that though.

    Hi, we just bought the 2021 Toyota Venza and love it, only problem is that the Apple car play is disabled by our dealer for whatever reason, I already argued with them that there is no reason to not have it enabled since it only allows your apple phone to connect and display some of it's contents to the display.
    In this regard, I would like to know if there's any way to re-enable the Apple Car play on this car so that I can use the large display better.

    Another great video. i always learn from them. Having just purchased one, I have no issue with the power button. Why? I never owned a vehicle with a power button (traded in a Rav4) so it seems perfectly fine where it is...for me. I get it how it may be noticeable for others, tho. That is a big battery. If that entire area is the lithium ion battery, that must weigh a couple hundred pounds. My small e-bike lithium ion battery weighs several pounds. Mahalo!

    Everyone should buy this car, most states don’t realize it’s actually a hybrid and therefore don’t charge the extra fees for licensing. Both my brother in laws bought Toyotas one a RAV4 hybrid and the othe a Venza which is a hybrid but no where on the Venza vehicle or title states that. Rav4 pays more for the hybrid the Venza zip…so buy the Venza and get fuel savings and tax savings too. BTW this is in Ohio

    Are road noise issues improved by changing out the factory tires to a better one? I changed out noisy factory tires on a 2014 Subaru Legacy to Bridgestone turanza quietrack tires and noise levels are much improved. It’s surprising that with all the extra insulation that the Venza has compared to the RAV4 that noise is an issue.
