A challenging but doable task of beating ghosts. Using and abusing shortcuts is a must. Most levels are easy enough if you mastered the power slide; others can be pretty hard still (Papu's Pyramid, Cortex Castle, N. Gin Labs...).

Is it me or the oxide time trial in the remix is way harder

It depends on your experience with both of the versions. On the ps1 version I am horrible.I can't even drift properly. But on nitro fueled I have beaten all the dev times.

What is the screen overlay that pops up all the time? Are you running this on a PS3 or something?

It's actually just emulation (RetroArch) with achievements enabled (which includes online leaderboards)
