- Episode Two.
I invited my friend around who knows a bit more about engines than I do, to help get the ice cream van started.
Base on the classic mini pickup, this van was specially ordered to be made into an ice-cream truck

I remember Mr Popeye's mini in Chasetown when we were kids in the 80's always looked like it could tip over! Glad to see it being restored 👍
wow, i dont suppose you know what the chime was?
My first car was an ‘66 Mini, as a 17 year old all I ever did was strip it down and rebuild it time after time - brings back memories
When I was a teenager in the late 60s, early 70s we had minis the same as this in Newport Isle of Wight that but they were hot dog vans
Very cool project!
Thanks im soo excited to get this back on the road!
Holy cow
That is so cool.xx
Ice-cream you scream we all scream for ice-cream 😊
Very cool video. You guys are hilarious keep it up!
Thank you! Will do!
Wow what a relic I've been in a mini when I was 8 years old, I'm in my 50's now. I remember it was sparse on the dash, just a big clock in the middle of the dash, wonder if the chimes still work. The rotor arm later turned out to be a good way of stopping thieves nicking the vehicle by removing it.
sadly the chimes were removed before i purchased it.
@@ColinsCars That's a shame, would have loved to have heard that
Remember these around as a kid in 60's/early 70's. Along with the Mini Wildgoose the most bonkers incarnation of a mini.
They must have looked so funny on the road!
@ColinsCars They sure did. Not surely an 850cc engine like the Wildgoose? Remember reading an article a few years back where a guy had rebuilt a Wildgoose but installed engine from 1275GT mini & even with that it ' just about kept pace with modern traffic ' Can't imagine ice cream sellers in the Peak District or Snowdonia buying one of these you'd need rear end assistance!
@@marccherry7409 yup still the tiny 850!
@ColinsCars I suppose the next step down as an ice cream van would be a Bond Minicar! You needn't worry about missing it yer could keep up with it at a brisk walking pace lol
MORE PLEASE!
There was one just like this at Banbourgh castle car park selling ice cream a couple of years ago
I had a mini in my yoof, but at least you could take the front grill off to get at the distributor cap etc. What a ball ache the commercial version looks with its fixed front grill.
Yes, ball ache!
Lovely project . And used local to me (Lichfield / Walsall )
did you ever see it in action? i wonder what chime it would of had?
sadly i did not see it in action
My mate had the 'hot dogs' version, Whilst he always had a really flash car he'd make a point of picking any first date in it. He reckoned a significant number looked out the front door then closed it again, refusing to get in it.
hahaha 🤣
I have just subscribed to you
thank you 😊
I'm subscribing just to see how this project turns out, very cool find, didn't know the front grille was fixec on the commercial minis (when you were looking at the dizzy was thinking why didn;t you remove the grille then saw the spot welds), just a shame the melody/chime box is missing, do you think the vendor might still have the unit?
its an absolute nightmare not being able to remove the grill! the guy before me bought it as it is now, back in 1993 a left it in a barn. so no chimes
Oh no! lol. Looks like a manual impact driver would work better for those drums. (little late for that...)
hehe, live and learn. 3 more to do. Hopefully it helps someone else in the future 😃
I think car SOS did one a few years ago
yeah, they did a Bedford van, very similar as both made by whitby Morrison 🙂
