Honestly maybe the saddest line in the game :( She’s very clearly remembering Zack, duh, but she’s specifically remembering how safe she felt with him, especially since she’s so scared of large spaces. She literally tells him in Crisis Core that she would only not be afraid of the real sky when Zack was with her. Feeling the rain and looking at the endless sky, Aerith remembers Zack and laments that she’s still afraid because he’s gone. Poor Aerith 🥺
This is seriously one of the greatest games of all time, without a shadow of a doubt. It’s a masterpiece

Zack is probably the best friend you could ever hope for. Man's carried Cloud with him, talking to him like normal just in case he can still hear him somehow, probably hasn't slept since leaving Nibleheim, fought off an entire batallion, and is still limping to Midgar with Cloud in tow.
And that's the reason why is is my fav character in all of FF

To better understand the ending you must have played Crisis Core. The two ending cutscenes of that game are vital to give the ending the right interpretation
When you realize The word Remake in the title wasn’t indicating that the game was made with fresh coat of graphics, but instead, that a cleft in the continuation of time happened that led cloud and the others to “Remake” the events of the Original FF7. That’s just genius Nomura
I think Nomura gets too much credit. Theres gotta be other people at SE making this stuff too but Nomura is an awesome writer (not kingdom hearts though 😂)
Devil_Slayer Productions yeah kingdom hearts has a severely over complicated story that can be frustrating at times, but i just love it for what it is😢. Sure other writers at square made this game as awesome as it is, but that twist at the end man has Nomura’s fingerprints all over it

I think people don’t give Nomura enough credit
He’s the director and he did a lot of stuff he didn’t do in Advent Children. It was his idea to keep the game as close to the original as possible actually. Also, he’s definitely the guy who made the gameplay good. That is something the director of a video game is most certainly in charge of

I actually disagree. She has some good ones in there -- "Bless us with your love and grace" -- but a lot of the other quotes make me cringe. "I'm coming!" and "Just, just go away!" make her sound childish, if not stupid. Considering she is, by some measures, the wisest character in the party, those lines are irritating.
@@Sonicisbadazz Those are two of my favorite lines of hers lmao. To each its own. I like the goofy side of her since it’s true to the description I read of her when I was a kid. It said, “her distinctive way of talking often belies [wisdom/mysticism],”

That's not a thing to be appreciated. Death, sorrow and our stuggle to overcome them were some of the reasons ff7 was so special, if they're planning to erase Zack, Aerith and avalanche deaths and give us a lame fairy tale happy ending that's a big NOPE from me

It’s been almost a year since this game released. I’m still getting chills and tears from this game.
I was so afraid about forgetting to keep checking final fantasy 7 remake part 2 since I don’t play any other final fantasy’s, so I wrote a sticky note in front of my laptop which I will see for about 5 to 6 hours a day. Can’t be missing the best game I’ve played sequel.

This game came into my house and beat my family up and I paid them I am a happy customer.
The cinematic aesthetic of the game was out of this world. The way they conveyed the emotions and themes especially in the ending really hit me in my soul.
I can’t wait for the next part. This game is my personal game of the year

I don't know if it's the Japanese aesthetic, but pre-rendered Cloud is too pretty-boy compared to the in-game where he seems to have a little more grit. I think Barrett and Red XIII look good in both. Aerith's pre-render seems to have some small differences in the facial features (I think it's the nose and a little in the eyes.) We didn't get a real direct shot of Tifa's face, but from what I can see it looks pretty darn close to the in-game. Overall for everyone the faces are quite soft (Red XIII obvious exception) where as in-game on the close-ups you can see the skin texture on everyone's faces. I guess it isn't surprising the doll-like appearance has always been a thing in Southeastern Asia (did I just contradict myself?)
If they rendered this originally in higher quality than this upload it might be easier to see the smaller details through that. shrug*

@@liaw3166 Yes also say the same thing in the original and Nomura explained that for Aerith, the (natural) sky is a symbol of sadness to her, as it is blocked out by the plate (ironically, the "steel sky"), both her mother and Zack died underneath the sky, and the Calamity From The Sky destroyed the Cetra. All this adds up to almost sounding like the complete opposite of her line in English.
The entire ending section of this game is SO. GOOD. I’m excited to see what the story has in store for us. Since Cloud and gang effectively killed the original game’s storyline, I can only imagine what new characters or story events could possibly take place. Such a great game and such a wonderful set up for a brand new story.
The worst part about this whole ending is the fact that once you get outside the game ends. I WANTED TO EXPLORE THE WORLD!!, WTF!!

@@chinimon8259 Unless you are spending money on like a collectors or limited edition with more value but yeah I completly agree. Micromanagment of consumers and decietfully allowing for games to be released prematurely so companies can gain more revenue to keep games running for 3-4 years in my opinion should be illegal. This is something that simply did not exist back in those golden years of video gaming. I miss when you purchased a game, it was actually the FULL experience of a game. Consequently this is also why many newer generation games are relased as an episodic series of games rather then a full epic. You might blame that on increased production schedules on completing a game and trying to adere to new technical advances but there is still NO Excuse why any company would released a half backed, broken and "incomplete" game. its gotten so bad to the point where developers take advantage of the situation and intentionally hold back on even story content for later DLCS so they can micromanage consumers. I mean what happened with KH 3 and FF XV was an absolute travesity and no markening managers or corporate CEO's should allow these kinds of practices, period.

@@chinimon8259 True, I also have my own thoughts behind how technology has really shackled and restricted ways for games to evolve and expand but thats a whole another topic but its very relevent to FF VII and many games that try and utilize high scale rendering and photo realistic CGI to produce something more like FILM as opposed to a game lol. back in the PS1 and PS2 era's, you can create a MASSIVE world with variety and an extensive story because you were dealing with polygones and 2d backgrounds with everything being scripted. I think now a days much of the scale is lost in the new technology we have to use for game creation. This is why I like to point towards developers that adhere more to a traditional design such as Dragon quest XII, its massive, its huge, it has so much content and a full story and its only 1 game. Dragon quest micromanaged its consumers as well but pretty much everything used in DLC for that game was an expansion of sorts, it was not trying to fix the main story or change up major systems of the gameplay mechanics, etc. The game when it was releaed was a full game through and through.

In my opinion both Sephiroth and Aerith know about their destinies from the original timeline that is ff7 original. Sephiroth completely and Aerith only vaguely as she said earlier in the story when she talked about the whispers. This is also why Sephiroth is trying to defy destiny for his own benefit as he knows ultimately he dies at clouds hands and that's why he asks him to join him defy it together. Or maybe I am just big braining with this theory and it's all just clouds jenova cells messing with his brain and sephy trying to control him like a puppet just like in the original timeline but the visions Clouds been having about Aerith Sephiroth and the meteor in Chapter 17-18 about the future says otherwise. All of those visions corresponds to the original timeline and theirs and the planet's supposed destinies. I think going through the story in the upcoming parts Cloud is going to figure it out eventually what everything means. I really hope they make quite a few endings based on the players choices now that we don't know exactly how this remake is going to end because of the events of Chapter 18 evidently from Sephiroths quote "that which lies ahead, does not yet exist" and "Time enough for you, perhaps. What will you do?" . Really excited about the future

I don’t know about you, but, I’m extremely worried about how this game will end. Cloud and company made a lot of changes and saved people that were meant to die. Somehow I believe they’ll have to pay it all back later on.
FF7 is a pretty grim universe, I can't imagine such liberties will come without a price - especially since by changing the timeline they have shown sephiroth that his original plan was doomed to failure so you would imagine that will make him even more unpredictable and deadly in his attempts to kill off the party and prevent that happening.
@@josephstewart2821 he seemed to have changed his plan tremendously too. Before, he enjoyed tormenting Cloud just because he was a sadist, now he seems to torment Cloud not for fun but in order to make him stronger. He seems to have big plans for him because he clearly won against Cloud and could’ve finished him off but he was more interested in having Cloud by his side and he clearly said to Cloud that they should defy destiny together. Definitely excited for the next part.
Interesting how in the final square off, when the camera pans to both Cloud and Sephiroth, instead of the camera going over Cloud’s shoulder like in the original, it goes over Sephiroth’s

I openly yelled "Oh sh*t" in pure joy when I saw Zack still alive.
I think he is still dead and has only fought a secondary force (notice that he's walking TOWARDS a cliff, instead of having it behind him like when he died in CC).
If he's alive, he'll either outlive Cloud himself and be playable in part 3 (after Cloud gets killed GRRM-style) or he'll be allied with the Watashi-Sephiroth, who plays with his mind, against both Cloud's party and the Ore-Sephiroth. (the Watashi-Sephiroth is the future Sephiroth, who refers to himself as Watashi, while the Ore-Sephiroth is the one in the present)

The way it's shown with the sky (the world where everyone, including Zack survives, is bright while the other sky with Aerith is cloudy). Zack then walks past her. And Aerith says she hates [this] sky at the end. It's probably just a version of "what could have been".

Creating Sephiroth was the single greatest artistic achievement of the modern era. How do you even come up with a character like this? It almost seems like he's self aware.

I get the vibe now we will me playing a lot of the game we remember but thing will be different.. more information like we had missed it in the OG. Like for instance if Aerith sees Gasts files what would she think of him? Things like that. (Also Chocobo Sage has to be an Ancient or something 😂😂he dressed like one) we might not because this gaming is coming fast oh well. Since they are adding Ever Crisis most of past Sephiroth events will be in there but expect things in future 7 Remake games to connect the two games.

That's another gripe I have with the game, when you go back and play chapters, you can't pick a specific point in the chapter you want to go back too >.
Me too, I did the easy first boss of chapter 18 and then had no time to finish it. Since i didn't want to do the first fight again, I just watched the ending here 🤦♀️
I'm here because my game crashes right after I defeated Sephiroth, and I don't want to spend 2 hours fighting the Harbinger and Sephiroth again...
Dude, I completed the game and it told me about chapter selecting and such. I then turned off the game, cause it was late. When I loaded it up, it hadn't saved. Which means I have to fight all those boses again just to chapter select. So annoyed.

I’m sorry if I’m late but it’s going to be a massive project to create the open world. FF7 took about 4-5 years to make and it just only inside Midgar City gameplay.
My thoughts on the ending
- The ending is a separate timeline of events, by defeating the Whispers, Cloud and the gang caused the timeline to be more open and develop new timelines with their own paths. This is proven by Zack being there and this scene of Stamp in 15:20. There, Stamp is a different breed of dog than the one we saw earlier, which means that this timeline is an alternate timeline.
- The scene where Biggs is alive is possibly the same or a second timeline. There was no way Biggs could have survived the events of the plate falling, even if he was still alive on the tower, he would have been crushed to death by the falling plate. This opens a bunch of new possibilities and ideas on how the game will take this concept further, maybe even showing that timeline Biggs meet Cloud and co.
- Sephirot's ultimate goal was to get rid of destiny, and he succeeded. Now that there's no destiny to control him and everyone else, he's free to alter his fate to his advantage so that he can succeed in his more bigger goals. The only question I have is how he knew of the Whispers and how Aerith became aware of the future. Did they travel back in time? Was Sephirot weakening the Whispers to the point where they're letting their control of destiny slip?
- There are now currently three known timelines, the OG Timeline where the events of the original Final Fantasy 7 are happening, the Remake timeline which is what we're playing through and the Alternate timeline with Zack and Biggs which we might see, though I'm not sure.
- Currently Sephirot, Aerith, Cait Sith and possibly Marlene and Red knows of the future with Cloud having flashes of it. The new concept of the game is remaking destiny, and it's really showing. I do hope we get to know how and why Cait suddenly appeared and how Aerith knew of the future.

I think Biggs survived because the Whispers protected him, just like how they protected Wedge initially. Notice how when Cloud sees Biggs on the tower, he's surrounded by Whispers. Who says they didn't come back for Biggs when the plate was about to fall?

Still kind of bum that the last of us 2 won
I think showing and fighting Sephiroth this early in the remake really kills the mysterious vibe surrounding him, which was continuously present in the original game. In the OG, we only see the destruction Sephiroth / Jenova leaves in his wake (The sword in president Shinra's back, the impaled Zolom), but here's he's already shown, directly interacting with the Avalance party. It takes away the mythical feeling and the anticipation of meeting him later.
There is no anticipation is the point. This isn't the same world(s) as before. Everyone's being triggered into something greater. We already know Sephiroth because Cloud already knows (post-AC) Sephiroth. He just doesn't know it consciously yet. Reality outright broke here, more than its already been.
Yep, it absolutely killed the game. Why remake it if you're going to change the entire story? Isn't making new stories the point of every other final fantasy game that isn't this remake?

So glad they are doing Sephiroth Justice making him have major telekinetic powers along with blade energy and magical abilities flying to and this is no where near his full power. This is only a copy to looking forward to seeing him in the future.

As divisive as this ending is, you’ve gotta hand it to Square for sticking to their guns like this. And the fact that Sephiroth had essentially won! He’s not a god yet and I don’t know if he’s any farther along in finding the Black Materia by this point but he did it! He broke the cycle, practically played our heroes like a fiddle in erasing the Whispers and now who knows how the new timeline is gonna play out?!
Funny, to me, the ending was the best part of the entire game. For me, I went from absolutely excited at the start to just not liking it by the end, but the ending really got me excited for the future of the FF7R series.

I really want to know what Sephiroth's intentions are. That look after he asks for Cloud to join him alone is enough to pique that interest, maybe I'm looking too into it but he seems sad but also has this look of "What did I expect? I've already burned that bridge" and it's really interesting to me

In retrospect, with all the theories talking about alternate timelines now, this quote at the end actually feels more like a confirmation that things are gonna be changing more, unlike the original game, so it IS "unknown" to us what may happen in part 2.

Two timelines of FF7 now currently exist at the same time in FF7R because of the last two boss fights. How this will play in the story will be something I will wait to see in Part 2.

The letter that Zack receives from Aerith at the conclusion of Final Fantasy 7 Reunion dates back four years, and I believe that in the upcoming game of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, the timelines will be merged to bring Zack and Aerith back together and keep him as the main character for the new, upcoming game.
What a beautiful trilogy they are giving us, Remake and Rebirth are beautiful and I have no doubt that part 3 will be an incredible closing to a wonderful trilogy

While both (english and japanese) are true , i think it's referencing aerith story about how she nearly runaway from midgar but she canceled it because the world is too vast for her. "people are hating the steel sky, but i'm not" even though midgar slums sucks, she feel safe & peace with zero responsibilities about her cetra blood in there.

@@ryanl784 No... xD It's a reference from Crisis Core. She has trouble hearing all the souls returning to the planet while she's in Midgar. When out in the open like that, it's ALL she feels and it's incredibly overwhelming to her. You think it's just Zack passing by her? There are probably hundreds of thousands right at that moment. Zack just stands out because he was important to her.
As someone who hadn't played Crisis Core before playing this, I interpreted that dialogue as referring to the boundless, uncertain possibilities of the new future that awaits them, rather than the foreordained, sealed destiny they were following. Midgar's sky was symbolic of their constraints and how regardless of how much they may try, fate wasn't giving in to their will. Once outside Midgar, they no longer have a steel sky above them.

I still kind of intrigued by some unanswered questions from this game.
- Is Wedge still alive or have he died for sure by the Whispers in Shinra HQ?
- What did Cloud do after Sephiroth gave him 7 seconds?
- How did Biggs survived the Sector 7 bombing? Also, was Zack's fate changed to prevent his death?
- What about Jessie, is she still dead or did she also survive the bombing?
- Will Aerith suffer the same fate as she had in the original game?
Still, I didn't expect this remake to be so good, but wow, I really loved playing it.
1) We don't know about Wedge, but there's enough strangeness going on that a Wedge might be alive in some sense.
2) Either something secret off screen, or he immediately snapped back to his group.
3) Events happened differently. Also some spiritual energy may have just healed him faster aftewards. (We'll see.)
4) Still dead in the world we experienced.
5) In some sense, she'll probably experience something similar, because they won't not give us the scene. But context may wildly change.

This reminds me of MGS4 in being ridiculous but also in the moment pretty cool. Ridiculous (and obvious) they were going to make Sephiroth the final boss of part 1, but I can't deny in the moment my hairs stood on end when that theme began, and it felt pretty bad ass. I actually appreciated the nods to Advent Children in the aesthetics of this fight, like Square have said for 12 years they would be able to match those fight sequences in gameplay, and they finally nailed it.

My thoughts on this:
1. Aerith would most probably survive because Cloud envisioned Aerith's death in the future and will be able to prevent it from happening.
2. As Zack survived, he would most probably be playable in the next installments.
3. If Zack would be playable in the next installments, similar to FF8, there would be an ALTERNATE PARTY. In other words, Zack could possibly be FF7R's Laguna Loire who could be the leader of the Alternate Party.
4. Similar to FF8, there could be an ALTERNATE PARTY which will be led by Zack in the next installments. If Zack could be FF7R's Laguna Loire, Biggs might become this Series' Kiros.
5. In the end, Zack and Aerith could survive. However, in the expense of Cloud and/or probably Tifa's.
6. This is NO LONGER a Remake. And, I don't believe that this is a Sequel. This game seems to be more of a REBOOT.

If Aerith doesnt die, then she can't activate white materia (holy), so she can't save the planet from meteorite (the logo's game). All Final Fantasy VII main story turns around meteorite and her dead, specially the group motivations, and why she sacriffice herself to save the planet becomming part of it. She is going to die, be sure of it. Zack alternative reality is just for selling you DLCs about a "what if".

I kinda hope zack still dies. Don’t get me wrong I love his character but him dying is literally key to clouds psychosis and the whole reason he acts the way he does. Not to mention it sets the stage for sephiroth manipulating him throughout the game.

Still thinking that the final song is for Zack, from two different points of view. One is Cloud sensing something, because he doesn't really remembers him at that point, the other one is more deep, and is Aerith who miss Zack's Eyes, the way he looks at her with love and anxiety.
Since Freedom, sky, blue , and rain are themes in Crisis Core as well, and Nobuo get his inpiration from that (as he answer on a interview) for the song, this is all that it is.

Speaking as a game designer, why would I spend so much time, money and effort being confined to the original FF7 story and Advent Children film? Why would I just copy the same exact FF7 timeline in multiple parts, with the only change being some flushed out characters and pretty graphics?
No, based on what I'm seeing from this remake, I believe the designers want to have fun and be imaginative with this project. I expect A LOT of dynamic STORY changes from the original FF7. What those changes will be, I have no idea, but I definitely don't expect things to play out as they already did.
This is coming from purely a practical perspective as a game designer. From a story perspective, I also believe FF7 doesn't need to be confined to the original timeline of events. There is a lot of room for creativity and perhaps different things happening to different characters than what we already knew all these years. Just my two cents. Based on what I experienced in the first FF7 remake game, I embrace the developer's creativity here. They are on the right track.
Unlike many people, I loved this ending. It really left me wonder what the future of the series will be, and it's really done well. Not all endings are supposed to be conclusive, especially since this is just episode 1 of 3.
A good "episode 1 ending" in a series that HAS BEEN ALREADY CONFIRMED TO BE EPISODIC needs to set up something to keep the hype.
Those seven seconds... Does this mean Cloud will die trying to save Aerith? Her death animation takes exactly seven seconds.
And for Zack, I have three theories:
1) He is still dead and the cutscene of him being alive refers to him beating a secondary force before the main force arrives.
2) Zack will ally himself with Sephiroth, who plays with his mind using the fact that Cloud is posing as him. He'll die in a master-pupil duel against Cloud
3) Cloud (and probably Barret too) dies in a GRRM-style plot twist instead of Aerith, and Zack joins the party, replacing him
All look pretty promising to me
1) I’d say there’s a 50/50 chance he’ll die the way he did in the original game. If the way Remake handles timelines is similar to Steins;Gate, then no matter what minor changes occur the major events that affect the world itself, or rather “fate,” will still occur in one way or another. Meaning, they can delay Zack and Aerith’s deaths, but ultimately they’ll die in another, possibly worse way. But why go through the trouble of showing us a completely different Zack in what was a separate, and now connected timeline that managed to survive the Crisis Core ending? I feel like he’ll play a part somehow in the future installments, but will die further down the line instead of where the original end would’ve taken place.
2)I doubt Zack could actually be controlled by Sephiroth because he was a failed Sephiroth clone. Crisis Core established that when a Genesis clone horribly mutated after eating his hair, and they decided to go after Cloud instead. Reason being, Cloud was a perfect clone while Zack was not. We also don’t see any other SOLDIER members in the original game marching towards the reunion despite having Jenova cells.
3) Unless they were going for a Chrono Trigger twist, I highly doubt they’d kill off Cloud. Hate him or like him, he’s literally the face of Final Fantasy. They know this game needs to be done well to appease not only new fans, but the original fans who have very high expectations. They wouldn’t do something that drastic because of the backlash that would come from it. Not to mention, the entire plot of FF7 revolves around Cloud. Regardless of changes, Square Enix confirmed that while there will be some other changes, the story of Remake will ultimately follow how the story of FF7 goes.
Not trying to burst your bubble bud, as I also enjoyed the game and am looking forward to the future installments. I also hope Zack plays a bigger part than a minor cutscene here and there personally. But I think there’s a much bigger factor than Zack that I don’t see many people addressing. So I’ll ask you, what are your thoughts on there now being 2 different Sephiroths in the Remake timeline?
@@brianwishon7322 I too really hope Zack will play a bigger role, and I like the concept of two different Sephiroths, after all, one of them knows he's going to be defeated and undoes Cloud's progress.
Until now, I thought that Cloud actually killed future Sephiroth in the ending. After all, Sephiroth in Japan refers to himself as "Watashi" before the final battle, but when Cloud enters the Edge of Creation, the new Sephiroth calls himself "Ore", which he used prior to going insane in the original game. This means that the Sephiroth that has escaped is present Sephiroth (the Ore-Sephiroth) while the Watashi-Sephiroth got killed.
If both Sephiroths are still alive, then I have even greater expectations. Probably they'll fuse, or who knows, Watashi-Sephiroth may also betray Ore-Sephiroth and become an anti-hero after all, and then fight against both Cloud's party and the Ore Sephiroth, and even go as far as to join the party temporarily to kill the Ore-Sephiroth himself and then fight Cloud one on one in an actual final duel, instead of the Omnislash finisher.
@@brianwishon7322 If fate is free to change, then Cloud, or at least Barret, is free to die. Not to mention, the creators once said they wanted to kill off both Barret and Aerith, but then they settled only for Aerith, so this may be a sign that the remake will actually kill off Barret too (Barret's fake death in the Shinra Palace may be actually foreshadowing for what's going to happen, as the creators themselves intentionally put it to show what their original draft for the game was).

A theory:
The game is going to be a trilogy set in a completely new timeline:
Part 1 is Final Fantasy VII Remake
Part 2 is Final Fantasy VII Dead Strife
Part 3 is Final Fantasy VII Holy Future
Part 2 is going to have a custom player avatar as protagonist (replacing Cait Sith as the robotic body of Reeve), Zack alive and important for the plot, two Sephiroths working against each other (one a dark anti-hero that only works for himself and the other the final villain he was in FF7), Red, Cid, Yuffie, Vincent and Biggs that become playable party members, the story that for the most part follows the events of FF7 until the City of the Ancients, the theme of Remake being important, the characters actually remaking the plot willingly because that's the only way yto win against Sephiroth, Shinra having a more important role in the plot, and the game ending with Cloud that DIES PERMANENTLY instead of Aerith, killed not by Jenova but by future Sephiroth.
Part 3 will involve the events of disc 2 of FF7 but changed this way: Zack enters the party as the inevitable playable swordsman, Aerith (instead of Tifa) enters Cloud's mind long after he died, Barret dies in the Whirlwind Maze (where Aerith was meant to die in the original draft), Aerith and Tifa become a full blown gay couple (and eventually forget completely about Cloud, while still being friends with Zack), Aerith never dies because the future Sephiroth decides to activate Holy himself to defeat his past self. After defeating Safer Sephiroth, the final duel is not the simple omnislash of the main game but an actual one on one duel between Aerith and future Sephiroth. Aerith and Tifa get married and the ending shows them remembering those who died, including Cloud and Barret

I gotta say, at the beginning I was so upset with the ending, but now, having watched a lot of content and heard numerous theories, I gotta say I am looking forward to what is coming next! I hope they'll handle it well and carefully, as I am not 100% sure yet. But still looking forward to it, and probably gonna replay the game multiple times in the meantime...

I've been thinking that square enix will put the end of sephiroth for good using the remake. In OG he was beaten by cloud and the gang with the help of aerith, biggs, wedge, jessie and zack from the lifestream (source: novel the maiden who travels the planet) and as a result sephiroth sent to the lifestream. But on the lifestream, aerith said that sephiroth still want to make his way to be alive again using the remnants and make cloud realize that geostigma was sephiroth doing (source : on the way to a smile - lifestream black and lifestream white) and led the story to advent children. Cloud beat sephiroth (again), but only to sent sephiroth to lifestream and the story will never end as long as sephiroth still have a control in lifestream. Aerith could do nothing about it because she's the only one that knows sephiroth can stay on the lifestream (because she is too), but she doesn't have a power nor help to get rid of him.
So, while zack, biggs, wedge didn't die in the remake (idk about jessie but i hope she's alive too), it's very unlikely if aerith will die for the same purposes in the OG (to pray for the holy or white materia and protect the planet from the meteor) because aerith protect the planet with the help of "everyone" who died in the OG, including 4 people that i mention above and excluding president shinra and hojo because in the novel maiden who travels the planet they are absorbed by sephiroth.
2 events that i imagine the story will be :
1. Aerith didn't die, but if she really gonna die, what comes to my mind is to drag sephiroth down and make him absorbed by the planet, not only sent him to the lifestream and there will be no advent children.
2. The party could stop hojo from fusing himself with jenova, so there will be no dirge of cerberus. That way, that would be the end of the main villain of ff7 (but there's still genesis tho, lol)
