2000 Shaq looks the most unstoppable to me. Shaq gained over 50 pounds from his Magic days weighing 285 to 330 pounds in year 2000. Shaq gaining some much weight it didn’t hurt Shaq’s game, just made him more dominant. Shaq really didn’t need to do anything wit real skill but he had skill if the skill was needed.
All Shaq did was put his big body on you sealing his defender getting deep position in the post to get a layup or dunk. If that didn’t work, Shaq had a Plan B like a jump hook, drop step, little fade-away, had a little Shimmy or Mchale up & under if Plan A doesn’t work. Shaq back then was like Curry where he revolutionized the game. U can say he helped Curry in a weird way by the NBA creating zone defense because of him which stopped post play from being a play used often & evolved to expanding the game to the 3 point line

It's because the Rockets didn't play the Bulls in the Finals it was the Knicks instead. The thing is the Bulls would've been an easier matchup for the Rockets they would've been able to keep up with the Bulls in the open court with the athletic frontcourt players they had, the Knicks style of play was more methodical.

That’s the best way to play in my opinion. Using the less amount of dribbles so you minimize the energy you use. You don’t need a lot of space to make a shot, only a little bit.

He can accomplish all that this season just like Hakeem did, And crazy thing Hakeem had no all-star help nor all-star teammate that season. Giannis has Middleton whose an all-star, but he has underperform in the 2020 playoffs so far. Giannis gonna have to carry them like Hakeem did the Rockets in 94.

Between 88'-95' Olajuwon avg 24p, 13r, 2.9a, 2s, 4.2b on 51% FG! At this point in his career he was 11-5 against Jordan for 9 seasons with multiple different rosters and was top 10 in points, rebounds, steals, and blocks every season for his first 13 seasons! Quadruple double, closest to a quintuple double, only player in history to record 200+ blocks and 200+ steals in the same season! He beat Kareem with his defending champ Showtime Lakers, Ewing with help from Oakley and Mason, David Robinson with help from Rodman and Terry Cummings, Shaq with help from Horace Grant and Penny! He has both the greatest individual season of all time and he lead the greatest team playoff run in history leading the only #6 to ever win a ring and the only team that's beat four 57+ win team to get the ring! Hakeem Olajuwon is the greatest basketball player of all time and its not even close!
Imagine if Hakeem had better guards to play with earlier in his career, he would score even more easy baskets, plus get more assists.
He is one of the all-time great players who truly had to work for his buckets all through his prime (never lived at the free-throw line like most other top 20 players of all-time).
Didn't have a legit second star player after Sampson got hurt and until 95 with Drexler who was already fading from his prime.
David Robinson had an arguably better regular season in 94 than Hakeem. And it's really close. Jordan also led a #6 seed to the ECF in 89. Jordan has quality opponents slayed too in the playoffs. More 50 win team defeats than Hakeem too. But Jordan was definitely a more consistent competitor than Hakeem so he beat alot of them with a superior record, and Hakeem was a tough underdog. But he was pretty much an underdog his entire career. Hakeem was once questioned about work ethic and though it was propaganda by his cheap front office, where there is smoke, there is at least a small fire. Small enough of a fire, that Jordan probably had more fire in him than Hakeem.

Prime Hakeem was a beast in the low post, the Dream Shakes, the spin moves, the up-and-unders, the fadeaways, the hook shots, and the way he danced past his defenders with fancy footwork... Even prime David Robinson in his DPOY year got pwned by Hakeem. An elite rim protector on the defensive end too. The total package~
Even as a younger player, in 1986 Olajuwon almost single-handedly eliminated the showtime Lakers in the Western Conference Finals. If anything, his pure athleticism was more impressive early in his career.

In my mind that is the best run to a title ever. 6 seed playing without home court advantage in any series, played three 50 + win teams in the conference and beat the MVP Robinson in the conference finals, then dominated Shaq in the finals in 4 games. Most unreal path to the finals ever. Hakeem was the best of his time and it's hard to argue he isn't up there with Wilt, Kareem and Russell. He had better athleticism, footwork and defense than all of them.
Bedsides all those incredible blocks, there were many many more altered, hesitant and reluctant shots by his opponents!
I just get chills watching this graceful athlete move like a ballet dancer. Hakeem has to be one of the best big man NBA player ever. Some of his moves just defy the laws of human physics.
4:16 one of the most demoralizing things you can do to an opposing player. He basically jumped out the arena to grab that. People forget how athletic this man was. He was 7 feet but had the athleticism of a 6”5 shooting guard.
That's one of the reasons the Bulls w/ MJ would've lost to the Rockets the other Cs the Bulls played against didn't have that versatility. Plus the Bulls were such a great defensive team because they would pressure the primary ball handler a lot the Rockets didn't have a primary ball handler they relied on team ball in running their offense which takes away the advantage the Bulls usually had.

These are things such as positioning, angles, footwork, and having an ability to create shots with a disarray of moves from the low post, high post, and out to the perimeter, on the wings, in the corner, on the baseline and at the top of the key. It's about knowing the importance of every single line, dotted circle, box, square, and rectangle because basketball is not based on speed, size, height, but it's also a game of angles and spots and the route your take to get there. When you perfect your craft the games slow down like Neo in the Matrix. It's when you don't even see the defense because of the goal. Defenders are simply pieces on a chessboard and you know how to avoid all traps, presses, zones and can get to your sweet spots, and putting a point on the board in the timeliest fashion because it's a game of quarters and halves. In conclusion, there are only a few players that I think completed their game and subsequently became a true master and Hakeem is one of them. 2,000 years from now mankind will say Air Jordan was the man that could spread wings and fly and Hakeem the Dream was able to give people an out-of-body experience. For the fans, it was like watching a great fantasy, for defenders it was like a very bad nightmare!

Olajuwon was the most skilled center, and he would be able to adapt in this era of basketball because he could handle the ball like a guard, shoot a mid-range jumper, hit a 3 point shot, score in a variety of ways in the low post(jump hook, up and under move, post fadeaway, dream shake), an make on target outlet passes. He did all this while being elite on the defensive end.

He was a better defender that year than he was in 94, while being just as dominant on offense. Think he should have won the MVP in 93 too. Barkley deserved to win it in 90, but they gave it to Magic.
93-94 Olajuwon does it really get any better??? MVP, Defensive Player of the Year, Finals MVP. Lead the Rockets in the playoffs in PPG, APG, RPG, BPG, SPG with no other All-Stars and his 2nd leading scorer in the playoffs was Maxwell at 13.8 ppg.

If he had every single record, then that follows that he was the best. The only available argument might be that Russell was better because he won more championships.

It's interesting how fast he went into his move in the post as soon as he got the ball. When Duncan got the ball in the post, he took his time. Usually backing down with several dribbles before going to his move.
If I had to choose between all of the best Centers in the game to build my team around, I'm taking Hakeem. No weakness in his game, and was the complete package. The man is in the Top 10 list in STEALS! For a Center that's incredible!

This is the type of content I love to see, Hakeem is my favorite center, his style has no real parallel at his position, he’s just unique. From dream shakes to ripping guards, he has a pretty mid range jumper and my favorite post fade next to Jordan’s. Hakeem is just different.

One of the thing I don't think he gets credit for. Is his fade away jumper. In the Nuggets clip. You can see they were literally crowding his body almost undercutting him (which would be a foul today). And the best thing about his post game. Is that it was super quick! Once he catches the ball. He's not holding it or wait or feeling you out. He already made his decision.

@@mike.cdn7212 The point is, Jordan had Pippen in '91 and '98. LeBron had Kyrie in 2016. Kyrie & Pippen are both players of All-Star "caliber." Actually both are HOF "caliber" players. Olajuwon won the '94 chip without anywhere near players of that magnitude. That's the point being made.

Hakeem beat the Trailblazers, Suns, Sonics and Jazz all in the same timeframe that Jordan did. *Infact the only time the Sonics beat the Rockets were the years Hakeem second opinions in Drexler or Sampson didn't play no more than 60 games let alone if they were even on the team at all.* Let's go one step further. Hakeem only had four years during his entire career when his second option in Sampson or drexler played at least 60 games. Sampson was traded in 1987 and would retire for good by 1992. Drexler didn't join Hakeem until they both been in the league for over a decade.
Jordan didn't have to carry a franchise alone and it worked in his favor on the tail end of his career and that goes for Pippen & Rodman too. Especially when Jordan got Pippen within four years in the league. Hakeem, Drexler, & Charles Barkley didn't have that luxury. They all had to carry a franchise for most of their respective careers and the ware and tare shows on the tail end of their careers. Hakeem doesn't even get a "prime" franchise carrying Drexler until Drexlers 12th season and Charles Barkley 13th.

Due you realize that Charles Barkely missed 30 games and Drexler missed 20 games in 1997. Kinda obvious that they weren't healthy that year. The same can be said in 1996 when Hakeem teammates missed over 110 games. Some people will say that Hakeem having Pippen in 1999 for only 50 games is the same as Jordan having Pippen from the age of 22-32. Cute.
But it's ok because Hakeem would destroy the Jazz in both Championships run when his team was healthy. Meanwhile the Sonics were getting bumped out by the 8th seed as a number 1 seed.

Charles Barkley and Drexler didn't spend the best of their years with Hakeem. I think it's cute that people say stuff like "if MJ never retired". Then they pair that statement with "Hakeem Championship vs the Knicks in 1994 wasn't that good". As if everyone have forgotten that MJ played really bad vs the Knicks in 1993. So why is MJ 1993 vs the Knicks more worthy than The Dream vs the Knicks in 1994. Enlighten me.
People tend to talk over the fact that Jordan got Pippen and Grant in the same year. Jordan didn't have a winning season until he got Pippen and Grant. Jordan has zero winning season without Pippen let alone his 1-9 record without Pippen.

The second greatest player of his era and that’s no small feat when you think about the competition in the late 80’s and 90’s. His first year he went to the finals but lost to The trio in Boston.
Yeah, Cap (Jabbar) has the all the glory, Russels got the hardware, Wilt is the most freakishly athletic and ShaQ’s the most dominant but Dream is easily the most offensively and defensively gifted BIG ever!

Inside game, outside game, devastating on defense, great passer, heart, and work ethic. Destroyed all of his peers on the way to two championships.

Let me tell you Hakeem would smoke Jabbar in each prime. Hakeem was so Athletic. Jabber had the sky hook and he was amazing but Hakeem was just so different. He transformed the Center position. Watch these highlights, he's like a 7 foot guard.
