great video, I'd actually put Dream as best center of all time, slightly ahead of Wilt and Moses, not by a lot, just by a hair,.. his overall arsenal of moves and playing alongside no major superstars for a good chunk of his career, and still carrying his team much in the way Wilt did for a chunk of his career. Hakeem took down David Robinson, Patrick Ewing and Shaq in their primes. And he took down Kareem and the Showtime Lakers in 86 only to lose to the five Hall of Famer Celtics team in 86 (no shame in that just like there was no shame in him losing to the absolutely stacked Georgetown team in the college Final) . I'd actually probably say Hakeem and Wilt are tied, I couldn't put one above the other really.. they were both likeable dudes too , and humorous off the court.. Hakeem definitely had more morality though lol

I'll give you this, i legit think that hakeem was the better player and id say that to anyone who asked me, but just like you said, kareem is more of the typical avg "center" which i guess would prevail him above hakeem to most but not to me. theyre both very different, id take one to lead my team and franchise. id take one to help our team tremendously and to be the final piece to win a championship. although, i do belive that hakeem was more balanced and could do more things in all ways. both of them dont have a clear weakness and i think theyre about 50 50. i guess the reason i may have said i chose kareem over hakeem is more of a personel reason. i very much respect your comment and respect you show.

@@Proton47 I met him in Birmingham UK a few years ago. He was so nice and genuine he train kids in basketball voluntarily he loved passing on his knowledge.
Best turnaound move ever, and in all honesty probably the best center who has ever played. When Shaq calls you the greatest center ever, that's no joke. I love this guy
Even if The Dream was not as gifted as Shaq, he was still very athletic. He wasn't as massive as other centers but he was very quick, agile and had a nice vertical
@@ThisBreaksnoses I would say that Dream was way more athletic than Shaq even though he wasnt as big. Better footwork, better touch, better quickness, and most of all, he was mentally stronger than Shaq…as in light years.
@@StuUngar Hard take, young Shaq was pretty damn athletic. So was young Hakeem, but I think Shaq might have the edge. Not only was he bigger, he combined his athleticism with power. I'd say young Shaq and young Hakeem are similar in terms conventional athleticism, but Shaq's power gives him an edge. Even 2000 Shaq, who traded in size and power for athleticism, was STILL ridiculously athletic for someone who weighed 350 pounds. That was the only year he was both huge AND in shape, but even after that he was still ridiculously athletic for his size and laziness. Honestly, of the 5 GOAT centers, Hakeem might not be tied for 2nd in height (with Russell), but also the 2nd least athletic if you put Shaq over him (still way ahead of Kareem). Yes, Bill Russell was WAY more athletic than Hakeem, and his athleticism gets slept on just because he played against Wilt, who was just superhuman. At their athletic peaks, Hakeem could get his to the rim, but Russell could get his head OVER it, and they were the same height.
It was a real privilege being able to say that I grew up watching Hakeem play. Watching him play was like watching poetry on the court SIMPLY AMAZING. He will ALWAYS be the greatest center of all time in my eyes. I have nothing but the utmost respect for him as a person as a player and FOREMOST as a human being. HOUSTON will ALWAYS Love you Hakeem you will forever be THE LEGEND HERE.
Hakeem may be one of the best who's ever played the game. He may be top 3 ever. He didn't get the shine for whatever reason, and his name is never brought up when discussing greats, unless an NBA player who played against him brings it up. NBA players now go to him to learn moves. He could play in any era and dominate, esp in this one.
***** true he did but that doesnt make it a bad choice to select James Worthy. Plus Im pretty sure he knows basketball history more than a lot of NBA analysts today.
Christopher Jhagroo I'm torn here. I think Hakeem is the best center of all time but let's be honest. Jordan isn't very good at evaluating talent, charlotte is terrible and likely will be as long as he's calling the shots.
Jordan is the best player ever so he knows what's he talking about getting wrong to pick a talent or to choose a stablished centre hakim is different idiots
i can't believe that guy is 7 feet tall, dwight howard and deandre jordan can't move like that. Also the guy came from Nigeria and overcame a lot more than a lot of these cry babies in the game today and was nothing but classy, players these days should be ashamed of themselves in the face of a legend like this man.
Ur acting like you could get to the nba lmfao, these players worked hella hard for it unlike you so they are in the nba, they shouldn't be ashamed of themselves because they aren't as good as someone else like wtf??? Like WHAT THE FUCK???
Soccer is a great way to improve footwork. Especially juggling and dribbling. I think they play a lot of soccer there too. Think Kobe might have played some casual as most kids in Europe do. Look Luca and even Jokic. Never seen Giannis juggle a soccer ball.
To have a career like he did with all the pressure of Houston demanding he deliver at least 1 ring but give them 2 is incredible. Don't forget he had to accomplish all that while having even more pressure at being selected ahead of Jordan in the draft.
@@rustyshacklefordrefined5756 Olauwon's 93-94 Season is probably the most complete season ever. MVP, DPOY, Finals MVP. In the playoffs, Olajuwon led the team in the five major categories (Scoring, Assists, Rebounds, Blocks, and Steals). Won the championship with no other All-stars and in the playoffs the second leading scorer was "Mad Max", Vernon Maxwell at 13.8 ppg. Oh and Shackleford what are u doing on the "beast"? Lay low otherwise "they" will come for u.
A wise basketball historian once said, “When anyone makes a top 10 all-time greatest NBA players list the first thing I look for is Hakeem’s name, if it’s not on the list, I tell them their list is not valid.”
My favorite of all time. He truly inspired me as a kid and I learned how to be a dominate post player at 6'4 and neutralize their height with different moves. 30 years old today and he's still my all time favorite. Thank you Hakeem!
Hakeem is the best. Tremendous on defense (not only in the typical center categories of rebounding and blocks, but also steals), and had guard-like quickness to compliment his flawless post game.
Ive always said and will go toy grave believing that Jordan would not be undefeated in the Finals had Jordan never retired and Chicago ran into the Rockets in 94 or 95.
Everyone forgets that the dream made it to the finals in 86 beating the showtime Lakers and loosing to the Celtics. His team was dismantled after that year, they lost 2 guards to 2 year bans for Substance abuse, and Ralph Sampson got hurt. They had to completely rebuild that team around Olajuwon. The Bulls never lost three of their most important pieces like that. It was a huge set back for them or else we would be sitting here talking about how many titles the Houston Rockets had won. Anyway I just have to say the Dream was the number # 1 player off all-time in my book. I love the way Jordan flew through the air and his game, but the things Olajuwon did to people was down right dirty, silly, nasty. He made you look like you did not belong. First lets talk about the weak side of his game, his offense. Insane post moves, knock down mid range jumper, a nasty fade away, could cross you over as a 7 footer. On top of that he was a great passer out of the post, if we had an assisted assist he would probably be number # 1 all time. He passed it and the team passed it around the horn and knocked down three's and got easy buckets. Inside, Outside game, everyone touched the ball so they felt more a part of the team and that has to make you play harder. Offensive awareness 100. His strength: His defense All time leading shot blocker, cleaned up the boards as well. He would have had more rebounds but people were getting their shots blocked and he was altering shots so the PF would clean up the boards. Finished in the top ten all time in steals when he retired. He has to be the greatest defender off all time by far. He even did a great job in perimeter close out situations ala blocking John Starks in the finals, another time I remember watching him close out on Reggie Miller and he drew an offensive foul when Reggie tried to flop and create space to get a shot off. He would run the court up and down like a guard he blocked the hell out KJ, when he thought he had a dunk. The list goes on. He was just so complete as a player, unselfish, humble, Mr. Cool, calm, and collected, didn't need to trash talk. For my money I pick the Dream to build my team around, he truly elevated the game of every player around him. And those 93-94 Rockets were cold. Roberty Horry 6'10 nasty just dunking, blocking, explosive and also hell of clutch. Vernon "Mad Max" Maxwell too much fire too much passion Could explode for 50 and he did. Clutch shooter. Otis Thorpe the enforcer 1 handed hammer here it comes. Just playing big all the time, getting easy buckets. Wish we hadn't have had to let him go. Kenny Smith was a general running the point, making the rights reads, explosive and played the right way. Oh yeah also a clutch shooter and knock down 3 point shooter. And on the bench, who else would you want in that roll besides Mario Elie. Super Clutch Mario and he did whatever he had to to for his team to win, just a baller. And Sam Cassel was killin it. If Michael would have stayed that year his team would have had their hands full. The match ups favored the Rockets. The Rockets had the edge at Center and Point Guard. The two Generals and anchors of the offense and defense. We could have matched up with Pippen because of Horry and Maxwell's favorite thing to do was test himself against Jordan. Just wear him down MAX! Otis Thorpe and Horace Grant cancel each other out. Michaels Bulls however great never swept anybody in the finals. And Tim Duncan is the greatest power forward of all time but not the greatest Big-Man. I think Olajuwon in his prime beats Duncan in his prime 8 or 9 out of 10 times. Great Defense more often than not wins you the game and Olajuwon is miles a head of Duncan in that respect and Poppovich is arguably the best coach off all time- from in game situation to preserving the longevity of his stars career. But I think the best person to ask who is better would be the 95 MVP Mr. David Robinson. I wouldn't mind hearing his explanation of the better of those 2. He probably had the most first hand experience with Duncan and Olajuwon. Or Shaq.
As a Spurs fan it's painful to watch him toy with Robinson the way he did... but when he does it so effortlessly all you can do is smile and know he was something special
I'm Nigerian-American just like Hakeem and bron in Lagos, Nigeria like Hakeem but I have been born there until I was 2 years old. Hakeem is the best center of all time period. He could run the court, block shots, score amazing, pass, defend on pick and rolls on switches, and could do everything else. Better than ever center the game has ever seen and won't be another we'll see in a long time. My all time starting 5 below: PG- Earvin "Magic" Johnson SG- Michael "Air" Jordan SF- LeBron "The King" James PF- Tim "The Big Fundamental" Duncan C- Hakeem "The Dream" Olajuwon This team would go 82-0 on the regular season, 16-0 in the playoffs, and 4-0 in the finals. Overall would go 102-0 and would EASILY be the best NBA team EVER!
the best feet fastest center ever. baseline jumper double teamed unbeatable.always top 5 in steal un heard of for a center. best timing blocking shots. team player could pass better than any center. one of the highest playoff pts per game. all his peers say he is the best. enuff said.
Thank you Dream. Those two champ runs were amazing to watch. Hands down the quickest first step I have ever seen, and the best ball fake. The man could do it all. You will always have a home in Houston.
I met him at an airport when I was a kid. One of the nicest people I’ve ever met. Stopped and talked to my siblings like it was the most important thing he had to do. Gentle giant off the court. Lion on the court.
Look at the play at the 4:28 mark. There's literally 4 people guarding him and he still makes the basket with ease. Truly an incredible center. Being his height, and the things he was able to do was just flat out incredible. Wish I was able to watch him play during that era but I was too young :/. However, I still watch his highlights in awe.
people forget when hakeem came to the league moses malone taught him how to be an agressive center when he got drafted. DO NOT let history forget moses malone teachings
Hakeem was so unique, his skills were and still are unmatched. there will never be another hakem. one of th seven greatest players ever & in my opinion the great center ever.
These young players these days don’t understand how it was to bang in the paint and have a jumper without the traveling! Hakeem was the perfect center! My guy was wheelin and dealin in the paint💯💯💪🏾💪🏾
I've watched a lot of highlight videos over the years, but I always come back to this one. I love the intro, showing the dream whilst his teammate Horry describes how good he was. Just something about it makes the video epic.
Dream is criminally underrated. His moves and finesse was unbelievable. His post fades defensive intensity was unmatched. The best centre of all time imo.
One of my favorite players of all time. So underrated it’s painful. Not just best center but one of the top players in history. I love that this video pays tribute it’s fully deserved.
People dont realize the centers like Russel, Chamberlain and even Kareem had little to no competition in their eras. Olajuwon on the other hand went at it with hall of famers like Shaq O'neal, Patrick Ewing, David Robinson , Alonzo Mourning , Dikimbe Mutombo . Get My Point? Olajuwon best Center of all time! Even Karl Malone and Barkley tried their luck to no avail.
I've been thinking that for my whole life. I get exactly what u mean. When wilt dropped 100 points the second best players average was 22 points a game
Ben GonzalezJr Yeah. That's why grandfather Kareem used to destroy Olajuwon in 80s. Lack of competition... Olajuwon is one of the best in history, but he's no match for Wilt and Kareem.
CalcioEUnico is that why hakeem beat kareem in the wcf to play the celtics? im not to sure about the date but it was in the mid 80's. lol hakeem is the best center of all time
i respect both basketball players very highly. but hakeem deserves my respect as he fasted during the 93-94 playoffs. i think u may be muslim because of ur name but hey if im wrong i think u'd still be able to understand
Perfect video. The interviews in the beginning, the music. It all gave me goosebumps and Im tearing up a little bit. My opinion this dude is the greatest center of all time. Post moves and footwork of a God.
If his name was Micheal Johnson, if he wasnt a Muslim from Africa, if he played on a team with a top tier payroll, he would be held in the highest regard.
Boondock Saint wrong...if he was american he would talked about always...you do not hear a single word about him...most underrated player in the history of the nba...
It's funny how Charles Barkley thinks he was the second best player after MJ. His excuse on losing was bad team, but when Simmons asked Charles why he haven't won when MJ was out of the league, he said Hakeem was the beast. Barkley didn't say Hakeem was better than him, which he was, because Hakeem won the title with a bad team.
My favorite Hakeem/Barkley story was back when they were in college. Auburn had a game versus Houston during their sophomore years, both were becoming really hyped players. Barkely said he wasn't shit before the game, and told everyone he was going to dunk on 'the big African' in the first play of the game. First possession, Barkley goes for a dunk, blocked. He tried again on the next play, same thing. After three possessions, Hakeem had three blocks, and Barkley stopped trying to take it into the paint agains Hakeem. That was the first time Hakeem had embarrassed Barkley, but it wouldn't be the last.
this man had it all no center could move like him ,had a mid range jumpshot, had the greatest post moves, best free throw out of all centers, quickess out of all centers this man would cross up defending centers like he was a guard and go straight into the dream shake ,hopefully a player like him comes again one day..
77 Bill Walton. 18/18/5/5 in the post season taking Portland to a title in their first playoff year, best defence in the league, best rebounder, best passing big ever, ran an offence without needing to score 27/30 like Hakeem and made everyone better.
***** ......and got flat out smoked by Kareem that year h2h in the playoffs. His teammates just stepped up more in that series, although Walton had a lot to do with elevating their level of play.
I am so fortunate to have met this man. I encountered him unintentionally in a paraplegic basketball meeting. I have both his autograph signed on my notebook and took pictures with him. Tall and handsome, god bless the Dream.
The Dream = most underrated player of all time. Just like Wilt is underrated...forgotten. Hakeem and Wilt were very similar in so many ways; multiple sports success. Multiple occasions where athletic rarity was proven. Wilt's high jump, volleyball, and shot put. Hakeem's soccer, and running. Insanely fast, agile, strong, and coordinated; especially for their sizes. Both had hands like Jerry Rice.
Daniel Agustian Yes, but Kareem was more methodical than versatile, and Russell was without a doubt the best defensive big ever, but offensively he was well well below average.
Yes, i'm agreeing with you. Jabbar has one of the most automatic movement that make sure he'll score(freakin' sky hook). He's a dependable scorer in pinch. Russel was regarded as one of the most powerful defender in his era. He's a monster that can stop Wilt from score like mad. Yeah, he is one of the offensively weak center. But, you see, his defence capability can overshadow his weakness and make him one of the most powerful defense-type center. I don't know if Wilt can defeat Olajuwon or not, but im sure it'll be a tough battle between center.
I was lucky enough my grandfather took me to UH games starting at age 4. #34 is the only reason I watched an didn't stop till he did. My personal hero. Hard to believe he was an is a better person then player. Thanks for sharing. Still haven't watched any other game to this day an I'm cool with that.
This video and this bgm giving chills man. Hakeem when he won his first nba championship defeated Patrick Ewing, the guy who defeated hakeem in the ncaa championship game. A perfect big man rivalry came down to a showdown of the big man and Hakeem absolutely outplayed ewing. A leader like none, the versatility like never seen and of course a champion. One of the greatest ever
Thanks a lot guys for 10k subscribers! I will try to upload videos more frequently.

Hakeem, Kareem, Shaq and Wilt are the 4 greatest centers ever. You cant go wrong with either one of them.
Mixed pleasure agree Bill Russell is way too overrated
I got him second. Kareem would be my first. But I wouldnt be disappointed with the dream.
Hakeem proved that finesse, grace and soft touch can easily dominate brute force (Shaq)
No doubt bro I like that comment it's true bud. 👌
Even if The Dream was not as gifted as Shaq, he was still very athletic. He wasn't as massive as other centers but he was very quick, agile and had a nice vertical
Kareem????
This makes zero sense. He may not be one of the best. He is one of the best.
That’s because he wasn’t American
He never got the shine because everybody to busy sucking off bill russell as the greatest big man
You know Hakeem is the greatest center of all time when even Michael Jordan says he would want him on his Ultimate Team.
You think MJ really knows Basketball history? Didn't he also select James fucking Worthy?
***** true he did but that doesnt make it a bad choice to select James Worthy. Plus Im pretty sure he knows basketball history more than a lot of NBA analysts today.
Christopher Jhagroo I'm torn here. I think Hakeem is the best center of all time but let's be honest. Jordan isn't very good at evaluating talent, charlotte is terrible and likely will be as long as he's calling the shots.
***** well Charlotte is in the playoffs this year so maybe he's not so bad after all.
Jordan is the best player ever so he knows what's he talking about getting wrong to pick a talent or to choose a stablished centre hakim is different idiots
I love Hakeem because he wasn't the guy that celebrates on everything he does he goes back and plays D.
Doesn't talk smack but smack them with his moves....
i can't believe that guy is 7 feet tall, dwight howard and deandre jordan can't move like that. Also the guy came from Nigeria and overcame a lot more than a lot of these cry babies in the game today and was nothing but classy, players these days should be ashamed of themselves in the face of a legend like this man.
tru, I wish the leaugue was more tougher like Hakeem and my eras were
Ur acting like you could get to the nba lmfao, these players worked hella hard for it unlike you so they are in the nba, they shouldn't be ashamed of themselves because they aren't as good as someone else like wtf??? Like WHAT THE FUCK???
he came from a wealthy family but it is true he’s amazing
Soccer is a great way to improve footwork. Especially juggling and dribbling. I think they play a lot of soccer there too. Think Kobe might have played some casual as most kids in Europe do. Look Luca and even Jokic. Never seen Giannis juggle a soccer ball.
@@retna1x363 it's not that serious pussy but he is right these dudes are soft
To have a career like he did with all the pressure of Houston demanding he deliver at least 1 ring but give them 2 is incredible. Don't forget he had to accomplish all that while having even more pressure at being selected ahead of Jordan in the draft.
Hr didnt have another allstar on his team too what a beast
If you ever watched a king there was never any pressure it was all in a day's work!
@@realali93 Yeah, he won the championship in 94 with no all star teammates, he’s the only guy who could do it by himself.

Arjan Singh Kareem abdul jabbar was the greatest center, his unstoppable skyhook basketball greatest weapon ever
Lloyd Kline no kareem is overrated he had better people did Hakeem lol
Josh B overrated? Shut yo ass up
Kareem and Dream are the best, hard to pick one. Dream has the best footwork for a center ever.
@@PrimeJXY lmao they changed the game because kareem was too good.
The NBA missed out only one thing those days seeing the DREAM vs. Jordan in a championship battle....
Longley would have gotten worked
Ive always said and will go toy grave believing that Jordan would not be undefeated in the Finals had Jordan never retired and Chicago ran into the Rockets in 94 or 95.
Best post playmaker and footwork of all time. THAT you cannot argue with.
Greatest player I've ever seen in my life
His humbleness is top notch!!! Luv you DREAM!!!
Definitely some fond memories watching olajuwon play. One of the best centers ever.
The only center who can stop Michael Jordan
underclassdamnriot Vernon Maxwell did a pretty good job of that as well.
paved way for the new era centers
Dave Lo lol new Era centers suck
More like new era power forwards
Dave Lo new era centers play nothing like hakeem. The post up game is on life support
William Hitchcock Joel embidd and boogie
Jason Correll Yeah bro Anthony Davis, DeMarcus Cousins, and Joel Embiid all suck. Forsure.
Hakeem the "Dream"- mehn he used to make me cry! His humility and dominance. No center came close!!!
Or Shaq.
What a great read!!
The only guy to win back to back championships with no other all star.
@@sdazzle2460 Clyde Drexler was an all star in his own right.
The center with the most varied skill set the league has yet seen.
My all time starting 5 below:
PG- Earvin "Magic" Johnson
SG- Michael "Air" Jordan
SF- LeBron "The King" James
PF- Tim "The Big Fundamental" Duncan
C- Hakeem "The Dream" Olajuwon
This team would go 82-0 on the regular season, 16-0 in the playoffs, and 4-0 in the finals. Overall would go 102-0 and would EASILY be the best NBA team EVER!

He was the prototype All Around Big Man. GOAT Center for me.
This was beautiful.
Nothing in the whole „Last Dance“ documentary gives me the goosebumps or sentimental mood like this video. A really good guy, the Dream.
Great tribute to my favorite basketball player of all time!
Kevin Johnson stil got anxiety states when he is hearing the name Hakeem.

CalcioEUnico is that why hakeem beat kareem in the wcf to play the celtics? im not to sure about the date but it was in the mid 80's. lol hakeem is the best center of all time
CalcioEUnico it was in 86 and it was during the "showtime" lakers. so i hope this sheds some light on who is better
i respect both basketball players very highly. but hakeem deserves my respect as he fasted during the 93-94 playoffs. i think u may be muslim because of ur name but hey if im wrong i think u'd still be able to understand
First pure skilled big man. Im taking the dream over Timmy any day
hakeem "the dream" olajuwon - the best center of all time and the most graceful too especially the "dream shake" shot.

They don't call him The Dream for nothing. Best. Most complete center ever, in my humble opinion.
If his name was Micheal Johnson, if he wasnt a Muslim from Africa, if he played on a team with a top tier payroll, he would be held in the highest regard.

Boondock Saint he's underrated by many that's fax
Boondock Saint wrong...if he was american he would talked about always...you do not hear a single word about him...most underrated player in the history of the nba...
You are a moron
Hakeem had Drexler, Horry, Mario Elie, Sam Cassell, and Kenny Smith. Hardly a bad team.
this man had it all no center could move like him ,had a mid range jumpshot, had the greatest post moves, best free throw out of all centers, quickess out of all centers this man would cross up defending centers like he was a guard and go straight into the dream shake ,hopefully a player like him comes again one day..
What a talent this guy is. A good man too. Lucky to grow up watching him.
If I had to choose one center for one season, he'd be my first pick.
***** he said bill walton lol

The Dream = most underrated player of all time. Just like Wilt is underrated...forgotten.
Hakeem and Wilt were very similar in so many ways; multiple sports success. Multiple occasions where athletic rarity was proven. Wilt's high jump, volleyball, and shot put. Hakeem's soccer, and running. Insanely fast, agile, strong, and coordinated; especially for their sizes. Both had hands like Jerry Rice.
Two of them is a monster in its own right IMO. If there's someone who can compete with them, it is Kareem and Russell.
Wilt didnt play against nobody
