There's a deal of the NSWGR northern line history captured here, other than the workhorse Garratt. Before and during the construction of the original bridge trains would terminate at a station that was called River Wharf. Passengers would alight there and transfer over to a steamer vessel and then have a trip along Broken Bay and up the Brisbane Water to Gosford then on to Newcastle making for a long journey overall. Along with the bridge the long Woy Woy tunnel was needed to get the rail through the missing link. The causeway between the station and Long Island was built and short tunnels needed at either end of the current bridge. The alignment of the route to the original bridge can still be made out on overhead mapping. The run along Mullet Creek is mostly all manmade from rock fill.
Do we know what the latest is with the damaged pier(s) of this bridge that were identified back in 2015. Hate to think that the weight of the Garrett, which is not a common site these days, caused a catastrophe. Great views of her crossing and of the piers of the old bridge.

The whistle reminds me of the Big Boy, and so does the ridiculously large cloud of smoke!
Definitely a
'CLASS ACT'
thx... 👍😎
It's kinda odd hearing an American style hooter being used on a 60 class. But it sounds cool
That's a 3 Chime whistle. We only use single Chimes on freight engines here in the states.
The whistle sounds different isn’t it a higher pitch?
Great, thanks! May I ask to the origin of the whistle? Sounds very N&W J class!
It's from a union pacific 4000 class
@@NALWTrainz Many thanks
It sounds different
That's a much better whistle .... the original sounded as if it had been taken from Thomas the tank engine or Tootle lol 😂!
