The Magnificat for me is as close as anything primal can get. I recall singing along with this hymn during mass either in english or tagalog under different arrangements through the years. But I hardly recall the verses nor the melody, nor have I heard it sung during a mass for the past sooo many years. Yet, tears were welling up my eyes as I listen to you sang. Thank you for letting me dip into the vast ocean of my catholic upbringing, truly a fortress of peace in times of trouble.
I was enjoying this piece, when my daughter came by and started singing it -- properly. Surprised me; I didn't know she knew it. Great meditation piece.
Very beautiful praise and worship music! Especially during the hour of Euchariastic Adoration. Blessing to you all for posting this and blessings to all who listen to it!
I'm glad you agree Socwoods. God speaks in the silence of our hearts, and if we aren't silent, how can we hear him?! Glad you enjoyed the video....our Chant Choir also sung a Palestrina piece....they don't work well with cell phones...no, no! God Bless and keep singing for the Lord!
Very very well done. Perfect tempo (I've heard this done too slowly), and beautifully sung. I'm a choir director out in PDX, and I just posted a video of this song....just me and my guitar. Blessings on you in your ministry.
Hi my fellow Christian! It is a devotion that stems from the bible in the garden of gethsemene during Jesus' agony. He asked Peter, James and John to "watch" with him, but the guys ended up snoozing. (Mark 14:37 "Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. "Simon," he said to Peter, "are you asleep? Could you not keep watch for one hour?") Anyway, that's where it comes from. It's a popular Catholic Devotion...
Beautiful song. The melody sounds very similar to the Irish song "Will Ye Go, Lassie Go." I have been trying to form a Christian music band mixing Celtic melodies.
It is commonly done in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament, but a "Holy Hour" can really be done anywhere. It's basically when you devote one hour to Jesus in prayer, undistracted. Prayers are recited, hymns are sung, scripture is read and reflected on in silent meditation. You can do anything prayerfully, as long as there are NO distractions during your 1 hour continuous prayer. In this crazy ipod, cell phone world, I think we need more quiet holy hours!
You're welcome....the microphone made a little too much echo-ing sound, it actually sounds better if you hear it in the next room- a distance from your speaks! LOL! glad you enjoyed it...& God Bless U!
I'm something for a specific song. When I was about 12, my church's youth division did a black light performance with this song (where we wore white gloves and turned the lights out to make ourselves look like disembodied hands, while we did hand gestures in tune with the songs). It was a song where a guy goes to the hospital, but he isn't able to be saved. He dies and goes to Heaven, where all his sorrows seem to be washed away in an instant. He meets God, who tells him that his loved ones are asking for him to be restored to life, but the main character (who never gets a name) begs to not be sent back to the mortal world. The chorus of the song ends in the lyric "And holy is your name," which is why I though I'd find the song here. But I didn't. Anyone know where I can find it?

This is one of my favorite hymns. Wish we sang it here in Florida. Thanks so much for posting it on you tube!

Anyone know where I can find it?
Well, the Scottish ballads are the best.
The version I know is written in the third person (i.e. 'His' instead of 'Your').
The melody sounds like Go Lassie Go (Irish Song)
Where have all the strong, manly (no offence to the lady) baritone voices gone?
Control that vibrato!!!
