    I think Tyrion's tongue was already cut out, in a sense. After the battle of Blackwater, no one was listening to him, not about marriage to Sansa, not about justice Oberyn came for, not at his trial...

    I love that everyone calls Tyrion "Lord" but what is he even the lord of? He's not Lord of Casterly Rock or anything. I think he gets the title just through personality alone

    • @jaimelannister1797

      Maybe because what else would they address him by. Most lordlings are knights, unlike Tyrion so I guess lord is the only way to address him

    • @permiebird937
      @permiebird937 3 года назад +2

      I think it has to do with everyone assuming that Tyrion will inherit Casterly Rock. Jamie joined the kingsguard so he won't inherit, and Cersie is a woman who would only inherit in Dorne. That leaves Tyrion the presumptive heir to Casterly Rock. Tyrion also was hand and master of coin, both offices that come with the tile "Lord".

    I think Tywin refuses to see Jamie and Cersie's incest. He might or might not know for certain, I think he would prefer to believe it is an ugly rumor fueled by jealousy of Lannister wealth.

    They make such an interesting counterpoint to Jaime and Brienne and to Arya and Sandor. In all cases, a noble is being shielded/transported by "not a knight." I am also reminded of how Arya would be so quick to think of anyone nice as her "friend," as kids do.

      @@sabrinakrisb4672 It is really interesting. I feel like George has a very good understanding of the people he writes about. In real life I find that kind of understanding in people who have been through alot and being able to predict what was coming (through their understanding) was part of what helped them to survive and sometimes thrive.
      I really appreciate George's work.

    Reading this chapter really impressed upon me how perilous a trek through the Mountains of the Moon actually is. We see why Jon Arryn only passed through there with "strength", why the Knights of the Vale want to hunt down and execute the mountain clans, and we see how easily someone as formidable as Bronn was overtaken. Now I don't want to be a provocateur, but keeping all of this in mind, I have a very hard time believing that Ned sent Ashara to travel through there alone, as would have been required if N+A=J was true. This has always been a huge knock against the theory for me.
    Also, I suspect Bronn was in Littlefinger's employ at this time, though I don't believe any dialogue in this chapter proves it. So no, I don't believe he's Tyrion's friend. Not even a little bit. And seeing as I've intimated that Bronn is working for Littlefinger, I'd argue Bronn named his son Tyrion because Littlefinger instructed him to do so for the express purpose of exploiting Cersei's paranoia. As I recall this act set in motion the events which led to Bronn becoming Lord of Stokeworth. Meaning Littlefinger would ultimately control the castle. Which will be critical in TWOW because Stokeworth, along with Rosby, provides a majority of King's Landing's food supply. And controlling the capital's food supply would be extremely advantageous should you want to force a regime change by starving the city out, or leverage that ability to a more powerful ally in exchange for a marriage to a beautiful young maiden from one of the noblest Houses who could give you the support of both the Riverlands and the Vale.

    I don't know if this is a theory out there or not but what if Tyrion is actually a Targaryn and Tysha is Septa Lemore... and Young Griff is Tyrion's Blackfyre bastard? I know Aegon was supposed to be born in 282 and for this to work the baby would have been born in 285 or 286 which would make him about 15 when he invades, I don't know, it would be an interesting twist.

  • @naomibousson
    @naomibousson 3 года назад +1

    As for Tywin who doesn't care about Cersei and Jamie's incest; it might be a strategy of his. Pretending he doesn't know or doesn't care just keeps the rumor a rumor. That way, he can easily shake off people who question him by shrugging his shoulders and saying it's ridiculous gossip (as he does with Olenna Tyrell). Were he to value the rumor more, and perhaps react aggressively to those who accuse his children of incest, it would draw people's attention to it more.
    If he knows, I wouldn't be surprised he secretly doesn't mind. Tywin has a lot of ambition and wants to raise his family to the top. A Lannister sits on the Iron Throne even though the masses don't realize it. I can imagine he is proud of that. Besides, he was married to his niece.

    The Erie may be impregnable but with an army host it would be possible and likely successful to pass through the mountains and pass over the gate and it's surrounds and just prevent supplies being transported up for years. If some new government was established down below that allowed all the peasants to reap the harvest I doubt there would be any resistance

    On Tywin being a sociopath. I'm going to propose something crazy here; feel free to tell me it's stupid because I tell myself that it's stupid. Here goes. In AFFC, Cersei thinks the following:
    "...She was always startled by how differently men treated her when they thought that she was Jaime. Even Lord Tywin himself..."
    I've always wondered if this loosely suggests that Tywin molested his kids, sort of like how GRRM seems to suggest Joffrey might've been molesting Tommen. Not that this is proof, but in both cases Cersei and Tommen allude to something questionable happening, the thought ends with a "..." and then they're interrupted and we never get confirmation of what they would've said. I'm always suspicious of the triple dot.
    Furthermore, to give this passage proper context, Cersei recalls this memory when she's thinking about Aurane Waters allegedly desiring her. Then she follows that up with a general reference to past recollections of knowing men "wanted her" by the look in their eyes; that she's been receiving this attention since her breasts developed because she was so beautiful according to these men. That she's remembering this stuff about how Tywin treated her while she's thinking about men desiring her sexually seems highly suggestive to me.
    I know it's outrageous; I know that Jaime never recalls being molested in his POVs so that's damming evidence against the theory. But still, I can't shake the suspicion...

      @@Oddbisket Thank you. It's definitely bizarre but there's just enough there to give you pause. At least as it pertains to Tywin. I definitely believe Joffrey molested Tommen though.

    i wonder if tyrion can even end his marriage to tysha, tywin told tyrion to have sex with sansa at least once so no one can set his marriage to her aside, and a lot of people in the story know about this marriage .

    • @freyz8715
      @freyz8715 2 года назад

      @Insignatious No in the books we get told specifically a consummated marriage can not be annulled, the reason tyrions marriage wasn't a problem is because of tywin and the faith was weak, now that tywin is dead and the faith has it milatent back, this marge should count because even the high septon cant set a consummate marge aside. And a lot of people know about that marriage

    • @freyz8715
      @freyz8715 2 года назад

      @Insignatious I think it matter because the faith is fighting the lannisters for power, and even if tysha is missing sansa can't marry anyone until tyrion dies first and it goes both ways, so it's really easy for aegon to end sansa's marriage to tyrion if he wants to marry her a member of the golden company, and also anyone who claims to be tyrion's child have a better claim to casterly rock than cersei, cersei is extremely heated and in war those climes really matter. The only reason no one cared about this marriage in the past is because of tywin, and tywin is dead.
