At 1:15 he uses the handle of his rake to lock the device. That ought to tell us something about its quality and security. Thanks for entertaining us LPL.
This old-style U-Lock has yet another vulnerability: one can slip a length of pipe over the extended part of the body (that holds the keyway) and bend the lock open. Back in the day, we had to devise our own defense against this by using a short length of pipe that slipped over the keyway, with a hole for the U-Lock bar. This made it harder to pry apart.
My apartment building used to have an outer door to the mailboxes and the inner door was keyed to get in. Now the outer door is locked with the intercom system but openable by every mail key. (as if we didn't already know that no lock available at Wal-Mart or Target or Planet Fitness or a dollar store could prevent him from getting into it in less time than it takes a Snorlax to go to sleep after eating 80 pounds of pizza)...
Also it locked without needing the key to be in it, meaning the locking lugs are sprung and you could probably shim them.
ouch the rake has been on fire these days. It's also hilarious that both the best and worst U-locks from Walmart come from the same company.
between the two Blackburn locks, LPL just got $1500... looks like Mrs. LPL is in store for a special Valentines day!!!!
Based on the number of subs and the average view count, Mrs. LPL is going to get a $25,000 Valentine's day.
When I lived in Taiwan they didn’t sell u-locks for bikes in bike shops, just crappy cable locks. Because apparently people there don’t really steal bikes so it’s not something most bike owners worry about.
Here before the typo is fixed.
It's not a fluke, it's never a fluke!
You might as well tape the money you would have spent on this lock to your bike frame and lean your bike up against a wall in a public place. Laughable. Thank you, as always, LPL.
I love the videos and the advice. I need to get a padlock for my trailer.(will hold a lot of valuable tools for my race car) what would be the best recommendation. Also Do you have any recommendations on if it’s ok if 3 locks use the same key? Or is it better to run multiple keys?
I actually rewound the video, when I got to the bit where LockPickingLawyer said he paid $6 USD extra for the worst lock in the store, as I thought "He couldn't have actually said that. I must have misheard."
As a cashier from Walmart, I know this will be easy as fuck to open
I'll take "Random F Bomb For No Reason" for $500.
@@aachucko the reason is because we can get fired for saying a single curse word at Walmart (even if we're not on-the-clock and we're just shopping on our weekends.) Walmart loves having rules that extend way too much.
@@aachucko i’d argue the reason for “fuck” is to emphasize the ease it takes to open the lock. sure it could be done in other ways, but fuck is so versatile and easy to use. also, this is the fucking internet, so why the fuck would you care enough to fucking call someone’s language out?

It took him longer to get the lock out of the cardboard than it took to pick it . . .
I’d like to see him “take it down to the garage” again.
I picked up a TSA006 lock (dimple core) for the giggles (Don't ever use a TSA luggage lock) and it rakes open the same way. Basically, this is a big TSA lock.
Your training a entire army of people to disable the primary function of locks
A lawyer and lock picker? You can’t tell me that you never wanted to be a criminal at one point in life. Regardless, I love this channel
LPL : Let's do that one more time..
Me : so I can see that was not a fluke.
My lockpicking skills came in handy the other day at work. Someone asked me if I could pick a lock that they lost the key to. I literally put the pick in and the door unlocked. Talk about no security.
"Oddly, it cost six dollars more."
It's by design. thumbs up!
The video is 2 minutes long. You can expect 3% of that time being taken up by the actual picking sequence.
That is a very generous amount... 😎
@@TheNeelonRokk I just put 3% for the fun of it instead of 3 seconds.
I have to admit I expected the tool to be constructed out of a Red Bull can, but maybe shipping those around the world is more challenging and expensive :)
Such a nice design of the key- with bicycle on it.
What are some U-locks that you can recommend? Abus locks are among the most common here in Sweden, so that and other commonly available in Europe would be interesting to hear about.
Are there any lightweight locks that can be recommended for any kind of usage as far as you know?
One of the most viewed channel in penitentiaries
At 1:15 he uses the handle of his rake to lock the device. That ought to tell us something about its quality and security.
Thanks for entertaining us LPL.
Whenever the rake comes into view, my stomach starts to cramp. And I am not even a lock myself!
But I know, the video will end quite soon.
Law picking lawyer the only person I've known to go looking for the worst bike lock in Walmart.
"And have a nice day"... Sounds like a FU to the lock maker.
The "$500 Anti - Theft Offer" probably applies to stealing the lock from the Walmart store, not whatever you use this lock to "secure". Fred
My apartment building used to have an outer door to the mailboxes and the inner door was keyed to get in. Now the outer door is locked with the intercom system but openable by every mail key. The interior door isn't locked and now has to stay open or the outer door won't latch. As is expected, someone turned the keyway with a knife
You kidding me LPL... hahaha. As soon as you showed the rake... I knew this was over. 3 seconds... bike stolen... geez.
That’s too bad. I am guessing the Blackburn company sold out. Back in the eighties I remember them having some top quality products.
