Ted Williams isn’t the only player to hit .400, he’s just the last one to do it for a whole season. The record was set by Rogers Hornsby in 1924, when he hit .424 for a season. This batting prowess gave rise to the legendary story of a young pitcher complaining to the umpire about his failure to call a strike. “Son,” the umpire is said to have responded, “when you throw a strike, Mr Hornsby will let you know.”
I agree with you Richard. This is my favorite baseball movie. The more I watch it the more I appreciate how Robbins plays a guy with a million dollar arm and a five cent head.
Thanks, guys, for doing this one. It's not only the best baseball movie ever, but for me the best sports movie ever. And your post-watch comments really hit home. Now I'm a subscriber!
The Ron Shelton sports trilogy is a must. Movies that aren't all about sports but about people's lives. I saw another reaction that called this movie a RomCom, I guess you could look at it that way but they're reaction from that perspective was way off.
Even though I'm a Pirates fan I like the movie 61*. You really feel for Roger Maris. There was an enormous amount of pressure placed on him that just doesn't happen today. Not like Roger went through. And they did a really good job with set design, and making the old Tiger Stadium look like Yankee Stadium. They filmed the movie right before Tiger Stadium was demolished.
Been a while since I commented but it’s good to see you guys. Definitely a top notch sports movie. Am I crazy for not thinking to highly of Keven Costner as an actor?
I see you havent reacted to the best baseball ever, edging Bull Durham out by one run. I am not kidding when i tell you that the best of all time is the 1976 Bad News Bears. It is,also wildly politically INcorrect.
The 400 avg. is a forgotten stat in baseball. Nobody's done it since Ted Williams & he did it twice. Ty Cobb hit for 400 more than anyone & a couple others have done. Tony Gwynn hit 386 one year, and he's been the closest. Great movie tho...
Thank you. I have not seen either, but I can add them to the list and see if/when they fit into a genre we cover in the future. I am not familiar with Ari Arter films, so I'll look them up! Appreciate the suggestion.
Great reaction again gentlemen. You guys seen Hostiles with Christian Bale? Or Shot caller with Nikolaj Coster-Waldau? 2 of my favourite films and would be great to hear your opinion.
I'm here to announce my reply with authority! You 2: Announce your f-ing presence with authority?! They haven't seen my replies yet. Ok Adam, announce your presence with authority (i secretly hope this gets 0 likes just to mimic what happens next in the movie)
Yeah... I have had a few conversations with Rich on why he makes cuts... he's the master at this point. He knows when the video might have wings and when it will inevitably fall to the ground and die. He's a skilled YT algorithm editor. He knows the ways of the, how to get "Forced by YT, To Get Shut Down!!" You might be able too work around visuals (Sometimes), but MUSIC! NOPE! Don't -eff with music. Also rightfully so. Let a musician get paid and also let us do our review show. We are all happy.
Baseball is the American sport I understand the least, and have the least interest in. Still really enjoyed this movie when I see it. These are universal character archetypes you transpose onto any sport.
Make sure to consider The Bad News Bears (1976), as it's a nearly flawless character/shot-selection study... one of the best sports films ever

Dont forget Ty Cobb

In the late Seventies, I worked in A. Ball. This movie had some very real moments.
Love this movie and really enjoyed your insight(s) into both the game and the movie-making during the wrap-up discussion. Thanks gentlemen! 👍

this movie is so much fun
This movie, Necessary Roughness, and Major League are my three favorite sports movies of all-time.

The greatest sports movie ever made!
One of my favorite films. Susan Sarandon found her future husband in this film.

You’re not crazy he’s great at both

It is good
"He's got some moves!" Just moving around a lot doesn't make you a good dancer.
Major is pretty good dancer I trust his eye
I didn't say he was a good dancer, he just has some rhythm and doesn't come of stiff and awkward, he's loose and fun, so, he's got some moves!

George Brett
@majormoviemadness9927 Great player, but he never hit 400 avg in a season, homeruns yes, average heck no...
He hit .390 one year
Great film, and fantastic review.
Have you two seen any Ari Arter films (midsummer, hereditary)? I think you would love them
Thank you. I have not seen either, but I can add them to the list and see if/when they fit into a genre we cover in the future. I am not familiar with Ari Arter films, so I'll look them up! Appreciate the suggestion.
@@MajorProgress thanks major. Keep up the good work Sir 🫡

Have you seen Kevin Kostner’s best baseball film: “For Love Of The Game”??
I watched all that to see your reaction to the last song and you cut it off, Oh well.
Which song? Also the surest way to get blocked on RUclips is to play a song for more than ten seconds
