I turned 26 a little over a week ago and have decided to change my career to become a RDH! I've worked in the HR field since graduating with my BS in 2016 but it hasn't given me what I want in a career. You're so motivating!
I love this video so much. It gave me so much motivation and inspiration. Im a nurse working in a hospital. From watching your videos this past year, I've decided that a physician's office would best suit me. The hospital is very hectic and a patient can code at any time. I definitely need the structure of an office setting as opposed to the chaos of a hospital setting.

I was working at an office 8-5 for a year and a half straight out of hygiene school and when I tell you burn out it real, I’ll never work 5 days again. I would love to find somewhere that did the 3 twelve our shifts.

Hey, I'm from Brazil and I simply love your vlogs, they show all your love from beying a dental hygenist.
Also i've noticed that your instruments aren't perfectly dry when comming out of the outoclave, this may indicate that the instruments was wet when packed (they should be completely dry), the autoclave was overloaded or even not working properly.

Was the material in the program hard?
a.b I don’t know if I would describe the material as “hard”. But going into the program with no prior dental experience (I was not a dental assistant before starting hygiene) I would say it’s definitely like an entirely new language. All the dental terms etc. but that’s what they teach you right off the bat and in no time you get the hang of it. Then moving on to the studies, it’s all basically pretty standard science/anatomy. Like grade 11/12 sciences knowledge is definitely needed but not a MUST... teachers are there to help you and you have to be willing to put the time in to study lots. Hygiene school is what you make of it - you’re paying lots of money to learn and it’s definitely all worth it. If I compare it to a bachelors of medical science in a university program - it’s defiantly A LOT easier than that. Hope this helps!

Aletse Sellav it was my favorite part of hygiene school. It’s easy to learn and retain, like muscle memory you’ll do great!

I love your office’s setup!! It’s very aesthetically pleasing hahah! I’m a DA and taking my prerequisite courses for applying to hygiene programs in TX in January. Anyone have any tips? The program I want to get into is very competitive and only accepts 12 students a year 🤯

So I know ur a hygienist and I see you do a lot of setting up and cleaning I’m just curious, do you have assistants that help you with other things or you don’t have assistants? I’m still new to all this and just was confused.
Tristin Snodgrass there’s Dental assistants for the Doctors and Hygiene assistants. Most hygienist work solo unless an assistant is provided/there to help in high volume clinics. Hygienists do everything from greeting/dismissing, xrays, set up/breakdown of rooms, consults with their patients on oral health, etc. besides the exam which the Doctor does

Hygienists weren't allowed to give anesthesia years ago but now we can as long as you have your license of course lol. As for myself, I live in Jersey and every state has different requirements. I learned my skills in hygiene school and when I finished and took all my exams/boards I went ahead and took the anesthesia exam as well. Some hygienists choose not to because their too scared to give anesthesia or they nust dont want to but I did because I have been a dental assistant since I was 18 yrs old (34 yrs old now) and have witnessed hygienists having to wait so long for the doctor to give their patient injections.I like to control MY schedule and hate when it's overthrown by slow doctors. Alot of offices have started to require it from hygienists nowadays tho because it frees up time in their schedule with patients as well.

Do you have to get quality assurance checks after every patient by the dentist? In the Air Force I’m a prophylaxis tech and we have to get a certain amount a month. I want to go to hygiene school when I get out just trying to see the similarities

Why not wear gloves when setting up the room?
Because your hands should be clean and in the dental office gloves are considered dirty even if they're not.

Candice Watts no not at all! I love it and sometimes mom lays in the chair and daughter lays on top of her , I just be careful with the instruments
