I teared up when Bobby B lamented, "Either way, my story's not getting finished." I feel your pain, Bobby B. I feel your pain. Oh, and avoid too much meat, my friend. Especially pork. Or boar.
He never listens 😩
Bobby B, your story *is* finished:
_The boar's great tusks, they boded ill, for good King Robert's health_
_And the beast was every bit as fat as Robert was himself_
_Well, our brave king cried "Do your worst! I'll have your ugly head._
_You're nowhere near as murderous as the Lion in my bed!"_
_King Robert lost his battle and he failed his final test_
_The Lion ripped his balls off and the boar did all the rest._
Raise your hand for part 3 🙋♀️
Soon!
LETS GO JIMMMYYYYYYY. that berserk vs monster question is just diabolical lmao
They wanna see me in pain 😩
Absolutely glorious 4K glow up man. I'm first in line for the Robin Hobb Jimmy Nutts Biography.
Thanks my dude! These file sizes are no joke 😭😂
1st person is definitely something that gets a lot of flack but it can be really satisfying when done well.
These videos are so fun!
I’m so glad you enjoy them!
I couldn’t predict which of these two author’s long awaited installments will come first, but one thing’s for sure: they aren’t killing time trying to settle on a unique font for their cover design. 🙃
🤣
I’m a newer subscriber to your channel. Love the content in your videos! This segment is particularly fascinating. I think Robin Hobb will do a good job with the last book of KingKiller Chronicles. Since her prose and character work is excellent, Doors of Stone will be epic!
I actually totally agree with that! Thanks for checking out the video and subscribing 😃
YES! More fantasy about mid life crisis and hating your job please. Now that would be relatable. I know it’s hard to tell but through comments sometimes but I’m being completely serious😂 Great video Jimmy. Hope you have a good day!
Hahah thanks dude! Have a good week!
I completely agree with every word you said re: Hobb writing your story
She’d understand me lol
Mood reading for sure. I need to jump into Hobb. With the bleak wold/funny world question. I kept trying to find a story with a Funny World with a Bleak Character. I settled on Discworld/Sam Vimes. But I definitely agree with your take on this question. Excellent video man.
I was also thinking Discworld!
I really liked your take on young vs older protagonist. Unless it's something like Long Price Quartet where we see a character age up over time, I find that the child/teen protagonist in an adult fantasy book won't have the depth and/or weight of life experiences that really round them out. I imagine we could find a number of examples that make this incorrect, but on the whole, I think this was a great take. Love this concept as a video, keep up the good work!
Thank you Adam!
"I loved this video" - Patrick Rothfuss
🤣
Some tough choices once again, your subscribers did not come to play hahah. I relate so hard to starting to prefer 1st person as you read more and more, some authors are just so skilled and show that they can pull of anything!
And I wasn't expecting the choice between Hobb and Abercrombie (Lord freaking Grimdark) to be so hard in terms of who is darker, but actually... reading Hobb is rough, lmao. Agree that the hopeful moments carry you through though!
Great answers!
Thanks!!
Great video Jimmy! How many funny worlds are there? Is our world funny? Maybe I'm a bleak character in this funny world, ha!
Hahaha it’s entirely possible!
I genuinely screamed out at the caption 🤣
Onto the video now.
Hahahaha
Mood reading for me too mostly. though i normally have at least one series i make a point to read. Also squats >>> deads or bench
Squats all day!!!!
Hi 👋 I’m more of mood reader… more in to adult fantasy… happy reading to you!! 📖📚
Cheers!
What did you think about the news of GRRM telling his writing partners and his publisher to clear their schedules and to pause work on all Ice and Fire tie-in books? Apparently so that their 2024 schedule will be open for the preparation of Winds being released next year.
Dude most optimistic I have ever been in my life about Winds
@@thefantasynuttwork I know man, I am still hesitant to get my hopes up too high but I have a good feeling about it this time. All I know is that once George announces it's finished the hype will be indescribable. XD
@@dookieshoe2905 I’ve been saying November 2024 for years so I’m hopeful that I can be right and he insufferable about it!
Is this true? 👀
Am I allowed to hope?
It’s like I’m in the room with you
This made my day lol
I can barely type and I could have finished Kingkiller 3 by now.
I used to feel the same way about 1st person after my first time reading ASOIAF, but great authors like Hobb can prove me wrong about almost anything! I still find myself having to adjust to first person present tense. My favorite series also include trope subversion, but it usually works best for me when the author has a meaningful purpose in mind. ❤
Present tense is still nails on a chalkboard for me lol
🔥🔥🔥
😎
Mature protagonists - yes, please! There's so much more to explore with them, but it seems like fewer authors are doing that 😢
I’m always happy when a story has one!
Have you read the First Law series? And if so have you reviewed it on Channel?
I love First Law! I have a wisdom of crowds review on my channel
How much magic and fantasy elements are present in the Second Apocalypse series? I'm definitely going to read it eventually, but I'm currently in a phase of wanting fantasy that is "high magic" with lots of fantastical elements rather than "low fantasy" type of stuff.
You mentioned one of the main characters being a wizard so that peaked my interest.
A lot of the story and conflict in the first series is human level but undeniably the world around them is high magic. Some of dopest battles in all of fantasy imo
@thefantasynuttwork Dude, YES!
After noticing that I liked a lot of books that happened to be first person, I've found that I actually connect a lot better to the character when it's first person. Also, never forget, no one likes nautical fantasy.
Boats are bad!
The Hound over Karsa? That is a hot take haha
I know 😅
@thefantasynuttwork can you elaborate why ?
Who wins:
Wickans vs Scylvendi vs Dothraki?
Scylvendi
@@thefantasynuttwork fair. But Wickans vs Dothraki tho?
@@thatsci-firogue Dothraki definitely
@@thefantasynuttwork can't argue with that. Dothraki have the numbers, Scylvendi have the dog in 'em and Wickans have bad luck.
These answers were completely biased 🤦♂️
😂😂😂
I don’t think The first law and ASOIAF are grimdark imo.
Even abercrombie uses the name ( LordGrimdark ) as a mockery, and GRRM once said his worldview is anything but nihilistic.
I know what you mean for sure. However, at the time they were published they were definitely among some of the darker works in the genre. By todays standards I don’t think they’re all that dark. I also don’t even like the term grimdark tbh
Unlike you, I have no optimism on GRRM.
All good lol
@@thefantasynuttwork Prove me wrong George!
