    Those Dark Star paints are beautiful. Sadly, they can be hard to come by in some parts of the world. Having said that, there are many amazing metallics out there. GW's Leadbelcher and Iron Hands Steel are of course the classics, but I've had a lot of good experiences with Dark Steel from Vallejo's Mecha Color range.
    I gotta second the notion about washes. So many react with metallics in truly fascinating ways. A personal favourite of mine being Druchii Violet. That stuff does amazing things to metal and is perfect for demonic or alien looking models as it gives the metals an otherworldly look. Like it looks like steel, but it's something totally different.

    I don't know if you will see this, but do you think Vallejo Metal Color Chrome is good for dry brushing? Or perhaps another Vallejo metal color like White Aluminium or Silver? Alternatively, maybe none of these are suitable for dry brushing, and I should consider a different brand. (I plan to edge highlight, but not on every model-only the important ones-so I would like a color suitable for both edge highlighting and dry brushing)

    • @BrushstrokePaintingGuides
      @BrushstrokePaintingGuides  2 месяца назад

      You can dry brush with any acrylic paint.
      So, the short answer is yes you can both edge highlight and drybrush highlight with Vallejo metal color chrome.
      The only thing of note really, is Vallejo chrome is pre-thinned for airbrushing so it is thinner than most metallic paints. Which just means you’ll need to remove that extra moisture from your brush on a texture palette or paper towel before drybrushing with it.
      Hope that helps 👍

    You don't mind using your expensive brushes with metallics? I been really struggling with gold trying to do the shoulder lines vallejo polished gold I just cannot get a neat line and I want to use my best brushes to do this but i'm scared to do because the synthetic brush i used for mettalics is pretty much destroyed and i only painted with it a couple models lol. Do you take any special steps to care for expensive brushes you use with metallics? You wash them thoroughly right away or do you have special expensive brushes specifically for metallic paint? Thanks

    Any reason you like the darkstar graphite over some of the Metal Color alternatives like Alumimum, Duraluminum, Steel, etc?

    • @BrushstrokePaintingGuides
      @BrushstrokePaintingGuides  4 месяца назад +1

      Metal Color are excellent paints, no doubt. I particularly like the Chrome from that range, as I think it’s be best metallic edge highlight being so bright and shiny it’ll work as a highlight to any metallic paint.
      The reason why I like Darkstar for basing and layering is because of the metallic fleck they have in them and the finish they produce. It’s a personal thing but I just think the size of the fleck is perfect for the 28mm scale and it’s so densely packed with fleck it makes them produce a crazy shiny finish.
      If you already have the metal color paints, I’m not saying bin them immediately.
      I’m just saying when you’re ready to buy a new pot perhaps consider trying something new and see which you prefer 🙂
