    Like Dave said, "What a day!". Max is such an impressive young man, and I hope he always realizes he's got one of the coolest Dads on the planet, even when he breaks other people's expensive rods. But how could you not forgive Big Dave! Another nice one from Nick and Dave, with special guest Max the man!

    I live in the Midwest. I have so far only hooked one steelhead on one of your worms. I don't fish them very often but they're in the arsenal. The one fish I did hook was a beast. They attract some bigger fish out here. But they also work for trout.

    One time coming back to Salem from tillamook there was a guy hitchhiking I picked him up and I told him I could get him to Salem anyway he tossed his back pack in the back of my extended cab and didn’t realize my IM6 loomis was laying there and his pack snapped the top half of my rod. He was more than apologetic about it and said hey if you have the gas and time I’ll get you a new loomis or what ever rod you want I was like well couldn’t we do that in Salem? He replied he has a family member that owns a sports store in Portland I’m like thinking ok dudes just gonna boost one and be where he needs to go so a long shot from hell I said ok well it turns out this place was in Oregon city and was related to the owner and did indeed get me a new loomis imx 1024c he also compensated with the titanium lamiglass rod for my time and gas! I still have both rods. And wonder how that kids doing these days.

    It’s funny but not funny since the wild broodstock program the average size has gotten dramatically smaller and it’s hard to find a “wild” fish anymore….i wonder how fish and wildlife expect wild fish numbers to increase if they aren’t aloud to spawn year after year??we’re is the logic in this? Protect the wild fish from hatchery fish, but Breed the wild fish with hatchery fish? Seems the hatchery programs before all this were doing fine…thoughts?

    • @jacobmikoleit5723
      @jacobmikoleit5723 7 месяцев назад +2

      They only take a very small amount of the overall wild population

    • @peelthereel
      @peelthereel 7 месяцев назад +6

      First of all this should be done on every system. For starters not sure where you are fishing but on my river there have not been this many wild fish in years . Second we don't breed wild fish to hatchery fish we breed wild to wild and rear the spawn into hatchery fish. Both fish that are spawned are true wild fish from this basin creating a much stronger and healthier returning fish. Third we have not had a closure on our river in 25 years and it's because of this program. The other thing we don't have is all small fish infact we see lots of fish in the high teens and plenty that surpass the 20lb mark and have a much larger average fish than any standard hatchery program and lots of big wild fish. I have fished this river for 30 plus years and the best thing that ever happened was removing the standard out of basin strain hatchery fish that you want to bring back? The old hatchery fish they planted were not even from this basin or this river. This program is breading hatchery fish from true wild fish from the correct basin. All in all I think your comment out of touch . This should be the standard practice on every river it helps wild fish and it puts fish in the river for Sportsman win win in my book

    • @LManners31
      @LManners31 7 месяцев назад +2

      Also, the wild fish that we use in this program are returned to the River and then will come back again next year to spawn again!

    • @brianjohnston4207

      "Hatchery produced salmon and steelhead successfully established
      to provide harvest fisheries often have had negative impacts on wild
      conspecifics because management decisions and hatchery operations
      were unrelated to the biological needs of either the introduced or the
      recipient populations. Reforms, therefore, are necessary in the man-
      agement of fisheries that will address the biological needs of
      anadromous salmonid populations, and reforms are necessary in
      hatchery programs that will assure hatchery fish are compatible
      genetically and behaviorally with the recipient population.
      Artificially propagated salmon and steelhead populations repre-
      sent the evolutionary legacy and genetic constitution of the native
      fish from which they originated. Hatchery fish, therefore, can main-
      tain population sizes sufficiently large to avoid inbreeding and
      genetic drift, maintain and increase genetic diversity, and provide
      security against risk of extinction by supplementing, enhancing, and
      otherwise sustaining the parent population. Excess hatchery fish
      from the local population should not be prevented from spawning in
      the wild and contributing to the wild segment of the population"
