Good to know: The new effect "3D and materials" works a little different. When you expand the effect it will create an image instead of an object. Choose the effect 3D (Classic) to get the same behavior with expanding as shown in the video. (Effects > 3D and materials > 3D Classic).

For some reason I can do the clipping mask step

After release the clippingmask just ungroup several time

For some reason this only works on the older versions of AI, well for me at least. I couldn't complete this tutorial until I downloaded AI from 2019. Hope this helps.

@@LADALIDI The latest version of AI doesn't create a clipping mask, it actually rasterizes the content after you expand the appereance.
